Yeah, I thought so. The 10 gallon hat always looked so goofy to me, specially since everything else about that design is fucking great in my opinion. I think just a regular cowboy hat, or even no hat, would have been much better.

I'm liking all of these so far, and it's a pretty cool starting assortment. Excited to see more from these and also what the next assortment looks like. Redeemer brings a lot of color to the group, I wonder if we'll get someone similarly bright in the next group. I would eventually like to see the classic Redeemer with the blade arm and cape.

I think that will be fine. It's a bit bent, but it's a sword, it's primary mass isn't all at the end like the hammer, so even if it is a bit gummy, after straightening it, it should remain at least fairly straight. I do wonder why they'd use that plastic when they've used harder plastics for the Witcher figures' weapons. Unless it's extremely soft, it's pretty much a non-issue, I'd think.

I'm curious what else Clown is coming with. As a deluxe he was priced about as much as the current Megafigs ($40), and despite his girth he's really short. I assume he'll have to come with quite a bit.

And Violator, despite being a Megafig (priced higher than the DC ones at $50), he doesn't seem particularly tall. It's pretty damn hard to tell his actual height given the perspective, but he's certainly girthy.

Looking forward to the solicitation pics.

Pretty sure this is the only pic of this guy so far. I feel like Todd will want to push a lot of the new characters, and that this guy will probably get a figure sooner than later.

Would you guys be happy with more of these original characters, or would you rather stick with the tried and true? Also would you want a BAF line of figures in this line, or are you happy with the 7", Deluxe, and Megafig setup that we have so far.

They'll probably be up in all stores and on Amazon, including on preorder. In terms of McFarlane items, everything is up for a long time on preorder on Amazon.ca, and pretty much the same thing for other toylines. If you're ok with paying MSRP, I feel like it's easy up here, for the most part, actually.

More detailed paint from the looks of things, and a better assortment of accessories. Witcher stuff is also 5 bucks extra.

Honestly, people have been complaining about not enough accessories or paint, and some concessions have to be made to reach that $20 price point. If an extra 5 will let them do a bit more, then that's not the end of the world (and you can always wait for a sale). More painted details aside, hopefully they can bring back washes and what not too. Weird that paint like that is sometimes present and other times it isn't.

Ya, plus all the bullets on his bandolier are painted, his 3 guns are painted, the holsters are painted, parts of his boots, pouches, etc.
Raven has 2 pretty large weapons (with a fairly long chain coming off his sickle), and seems to have a wash over his body.
Redeemer seems pretty light on paint, but has his sword and his two wings which seem to be painted nicely.

Once the solicitation pics are released we'll have a better idea of everything, I think. From the looks of it, and if you're into these characters, they look like they'll be worth it (at least the 3 of the regular assortment).

Dune had BAF pieces, so $25 is the standard there. They were also available at Target for $20, and Canada's TRU had them for $25, which is what they have for $19.99 figures. Most figures that are $19.99 in the States are $29.99 in Canada, and recently Hasbro figures are creeping into $32.99 territory. McFarlane figures at $24.99 and $29.99 feel like a steal comparatively. And it looks like Masterverse will also be $29.99, so Hasbro's stuff will be the priciest over there, and compared to the aforementioned lines, the smallest (something that perhaps parents might care about).

I basically bought one Dune figure everytime i saw them and didn't buy any other toy. I used to do this shit with GI Joe army builders back in the day too.

oh, and just to add on to that army biulder part, i was buying up name figures too, because faceless figures like this made for great generic cannon fodder.

I thought it was really clever that someone at Hasbro thought it would keep down on shelf warmers by including a secondary head to make a named character generic.

Apparently comic sales of Spawn have been way up since the pandemic. Plus MK11 Spawn doing really well. Put those 2 together and the new ongoing comics, and this is as good a time as any to bring back Spawn action figures to retail.

We'll see. Spawn selling is kind of like Spider-Man or Batman selling. How well the rest of the new books do will be a good indicator of how things are going. Hopefully the momentum is good. More comics probably means more figures (or at least more material to pull from).

If Todd can deliver on pic related at a time when Invincible is more popular than ever thanks to the Amazon series and deliver in quality, he should be gold
What Invincible does to adapt (rearrange events to suit the medium better and keep things cohesive), Spawn could work and benefit from much more even with the legal headaches

I'd like to see a proper scaled shot, but it currently looks like in a regular hunched position he'll be around 8". He's girthy, but not very tall from the looks of things. Being that he's a pricier Megafig, I'd have expected him to be at least the same height as Steppenwolf or Darkseid, but I guess he's thicker than them.

I wonder if there will be any logical rules that waves of these figures will follow. We have Raven Spawn in here, which is the only non comic (let's say since 300 onward) character of the group. Perhaps it'll be some recent comic characters, and a legacy Spawn variant? I'm thinking Medieval and She-Spawn will be in the next wave. I wonder if they'd do the new Redeemer look already. Can't say I'm the biggest fan of the look, but if that's the Redeemer that will be on the team, it makes sense that he'd get something.

I don't care for people's grievances over Violator's new look. I mostly liked him for his head design, so the new version simply being more buffed up doesn't really bother me. I'm happy to be getting the new figure along with the rest of the line.

Spawn has a literal toybox of characters (yes including those that aren't just more Hellspawn variants) that unfortunately were mostly one offs that'd it'd be cool to see fleshed out more and could even see a new figure release

Why not just wait for TRU to open back up? They have the Bane wave in stock (so does Amazon for slightly less than retail, mostly) and will probably have a 20 or 25% sale soon. The Metal Batmen have been popping up on both Walmart.ca and toysrus.ca for retail. The Merciless wave should probably be at TRU too.

The whole basis of Image is that it's a publisher, and that the creations are creator owned, Todd has no ownership of the various Image creations besides his own and so would have to license the IPs for figures if they so chose. Starting with Spawn alone makes a ton of sense, and if other Image creators want their characters made into figures, then they'd have to talk with the company and make a deal.

Aren't they showing up in the US? They're definitely available in the East. Besides, Canada gets things pretty late, which makes it hard to gauge if you'll still have the opportunity to grab a wave or not. For example I've still never seen the Merciless wave in person. I'll echo what the others said, he's decent, but between no other OPM figures being made from McFarlane (so he won't at least have a collection to put together with him), and him being a really early figure they implemented their new articulation on, he's far from great. He's definitely not worth $44 though. It's a shame they didn't make any more OPM figures. If they made a Boros or Genos today I'd have to imagine that the figure would be pretty solid. They could probably do an improved Saitama too, but seems like they're done with the license.

I'd be interested, but if we do get more Raw10 I'd really like some fully articulated animals. We barely get articulated animals, and articulated cyber animals sounds pretty great.

We've also not seen any of those other unlicensed ideas Todd had talked about, I'd love to get a line of generic troopers, or ninjas, or knights, or whatever else. It really does seem like a good idea, and if he could actually get them made at half the price of regular assortments, with the same levels of engineering and paint, that'd be pretty damn impressive. Also perfect for customs, fodder, etc.

With just some better quality pics it already looks a lot better than those original pics. The Wonder Woman had prototype looking leg armor (compared to the accented colors from the artwork), and DKR Batman without articulation, I assume these are all pretty early. I look forward to seeing all their final looks.

They're sacrificing paint for all that, which is basically the opposite of what they were doing in the mid-00s.

Only time they really struck a happy medium was with their Halo line, but a lot of people on here weren't happy with the results.

Todd selling off Angela is one of those decisions Im still scratching my head over. That said, I still wish he'd have managed to buy Marvelman. The thing is it didn't have to be, iirc with those marines in particular they had no swivel at the bicep for some fucking reason which meant they couldn't get into shooting poses despite there being a perfect place to put one on the black strap. The mods people made to the Spartans also amounted to shaving off a bit of plastic at near the knee and elbow joints which made a night and day difference when it came to actually being able to pose them doing anything other than holding their weapons in a neutral pose.

It was a bunch of cuts and single hinges, which is much cheaper to produce than say a ball-hinge or even a ball joint. Which also doesn't break up the s culpt as much as needing space for the ball joint to move.

Versus today, where it's a lot of double joints, barbell joints stuck onto an inner skeleton and rubbery bodies stuffed with overlays. No doubt, the smaller size was cheaper to produce back then too.
Spartans like pic had barbell joints too, but they were stuck onto the body versus inner the inner pieces of a modern McFarlne. Those inner parts are extra pieces to mold = more expensive.

I agree, I wish Todd could’ve managed to get Gaiman to settle. Him selling Angela to Marvel for a dollar was just petty and it felt like he thought himself above the whole thing and was just going through the motions as a businessman. Don’t like Gaiman much, really, strikes me as one of those middling genre writers who hit it big in comics because he’s better than the average comic writer, but his comic work never felt like he was a fan of the medium itself. I’d honestly take Mcfarlane’s hack writing over his because at least McFarlane doesn’t have any pretense other than drawing cool shit. I appreciate that way more than counterfeit intellectualism. In general, the weeaboos are incredibly insecure that they'll even attack other Japanese brands. The first brand wars on /toy/ was between Figma and Revoltech, fighting over the Evangelion girls. Now that Revoltech has become a niche line and more newfags have come into the board, that brandwar has been mostly forgotten, but many more have taken its place (Mafex vs Figuarts, Figuarts vs Figma).
Whereas western brands are pretty much cool with one another, where Mezco interacts with Diamond and Hasbro, NECA with McFarlane, and even non-Japanese Asian lines like Storm Collectibles interacts with McFarlane/Mattel. See also 1:18 where different lines across the world share a single General.

As for the 6" stuff, again, just shows how cool we are. An easy coexistance.
I personally prefer 6", btw, but i routinely buy McFarlane just beacuse it looks cool and some of them actually fit in with 1:12 anyway.

As for double versus single joints when done well a double just let's you get so much more out of the figure when it comes to posing that it's worth impacting the sculpt compared to a single. The new spartan collection figures while looking a bit drab on the paint and maybe odd in some poses can get into poses the McFarlane halo figures could only dream of.

I totally agree. With that being said, the overall design of Battlesnake is probably my favourite out of the bunch. I wasn't too fond of Fren-Z at first, overtime I've grown more accustom to him.

It's damn big, and articulated, and Batman came with less than most of the other AY releases. Large articulated wings should definitely count as an accessory. Do you mean in general (like in the comics)? If so, lots. Beyond the toy variants we've seen in the past, there are lots of new ones too that haven't yet been seen (per the story). Monolith, Plague, Omega, are some of the new ones. They're not technically 'Spawn' variants, but 'Hellspawn' variants.

I'm honestly not sure. I think it's more driven by what retailers are willing to pay, how much money they're willing to put into the figures, how much the licensor is willing to wiggle around with pricing, etc. Todd controls his own Spawn stuff, so if he wants extra paint and consistent accessories he can freely bump his prices if he so chooses (so long as retailers are still willing to pay for them), meanwhile DC for example may want their non-BAF figures to remain at that $20 price point.
