Around the same time, Lego was squeezing down it's part catalogues and retiring molds because it was going bankrupt. I'm not even sure Lego has the wall and corner piece molds anymore since they were last seen a decade ago.
Personally, I prefer having more detailed, updated versions of sets rather than a straight reissue. Blacksmith Shop and Bricklink's Castle in the Forest are really nice.
