Pretty sure that's what the "collecting problem" meant. Especially if you want kids in the future or something like a house, you can't expect your partner (whether it's the girl or boyfriend of the relationship) to spend their money as if they're single. Shit becomes a co-effort.

I think he claimed that it wasn't so much a money problem as it was a "gf thinks I'm childish because I have a room full of Godzilla toys" problem, although most people would be embarrassed to admit that they spent more they can afford on toys. Collecting anything can be addictive, but you have to give yourself a reality check every now and again and come to terms that you can't buy everything. Used to work with a guy who hunted down every single Amiibo that Nintendo made for Super Smash Bros. After he bought them all, he just sold his entire collection on eBay, and then started collecting Marvel Legends. People really do get hooked on the dopamine rush of consooming. I guess it's just hunter-gatherer instincts or something of that nature.

Honestly, if my gf had a room full of Godzilla shit including literal kid toys and birthday napkins I'd be embarrassed too. I like Godzilla and toys (obviously) but as an adult I have standards to what I'd buy and how I'd display it.

Knew some chicks who collected pokemon stuff, hot toys, the occasional SHF, mls, etc, most of teh time they pick up the hobby from exs or their dads, so if you're not man enough they're not gonna mold to your personality quite as well, in that case your only option is to try and find one into that kinda thing, but most likely you're gonna get some homely lookin chick that was real into mlp toys or something. BJD girls are either nutjobs or very shut in, and are a different beast.

Ah yes Chris Cuypers, aka GojiFan1993. I feel bad for the man. He was engaged, but his fiancé left him because of his Godzilla obsession. He stopped the Godzilla stuff cold turkey for a while. Started focusing on his career and found God. He has a new girlfriend who seems to be very supportive of him and he even introduced her to Godzilla and now she really seems into it. Hope he's doing okay, he's had some bad luck in life with companies stealing his work and whatnot.

All the SHMA figures for 2014 are expensive, the Neca 24"in is easily over $100, the Neca 6"in is pretty much sold out everywhere reputable so if you are buying, you will be either be risking getting a Chinese knockoff o for about MSRP or spending nearly SHMA prices for a second-hand figure. The X-Plus is also very expensive, but that sort of goes without saying.

This is my first SHMA and I am very disappointed with it.
I unironically prefer my NECAs to this.
My tail came with a loose joint in the middle of it so I can't even pose it and it feels like cheap shit because it's so light. If I drop it I feel like it will instantly shatter into pieces whereas my NECAs are fucking tanks. They didn't win me over with it and almost made me want to cancel my Kong. I expected more after seeing everyone ITT suck off this line.

Bandai isn't flawless like people ITT seem to believe. I've seen plenty of reviews where people say specific figures have issues with breakage. I'd trust them more than Neca on average though. You may have gotten lucky with Neca depending on how many you have.

It's a little fucked cause of the Neca memes but their godzillas are all very durable tanks. It's the one thing they did right. Now that I felt this SHMA Godzilla I would flip the MSRPs and everything would be okay. The only thing NECA could have done better is the paint apps. That all sounds like total bullshit. If Bandai wanted to introduce new fans to the line, they should have included a beam effect, more hands (more than just open and slightly more open) like a grabbing hand or some flat hands so he can go full crocodile pose. As for cost Bandai should have just swallowed that. They're the biggest toy company in Japan, and probably one of the biggest in the world, they could afford to absorb the cost of a few extra accessories (especially if they just reused one of the previous breath effects) for one figure if it's supposed to draw more people in, then really "wow" them. The fact is Bandai have been putting in less and less effort into every release (and not just the SHMA line) as the years go by.

I'm sorry, but what? Its weight feels almost the exact same as every other SHMA Godzilla. Kiryu is obviously a bit heavier because he's got diecast parts, but not by much. The only SHMA figures I have that feel noticeably heftier than him are Biollante and Rathalos and they are dramatically larger in size.

What threads have you been in? These threads are filled with people talking about the faults of the line. People are always complaining about Bandai constantly screwing up the eye applications, the lack of accessories (someone was doing that just a few posts earlier), the shitty teeth and mouth paints that have been rampant in the line over the past 3 years. Ask anyone in the thread how they feel about KOTM Ghidorah and they will tell you it's a movie inaccurate statue with the bare minimum of poseability and no accessories. I complain all the time about the fact that the Ultraman S.H. Figuarts kaiju come with more accessories than the SHMA Godzilla line. Even the SHMA Monster Hunter line gets treated better than the Godzilla line.
People are generally forgiving of SHMA because they have the best sculpts outside of X-Plus and they are the most posable Godzilla figures we've ever gotten.

The trick I do is boil the kettle, pour some water into a coffee mug and hold the end of the tail in the water for about 20 seconds, it should be soft enough you squish the socket end with little resistance, then I dry it quickly and plug it in. You should hear/feel a "pop" and it should move on the ball joint easily. You should have no trouble after that.

NECA uses solid plastic throughout the figure, the SHMA figures tend to be hollow shells supported on an articulated frame or connection of joints.

Depends if you want heft and sturdiness over articulation.
Monsterarts are also a lot more segmented due to having significantly more parts. Whether you like this for the sake of having more articulation is up to you, because some people would rather have less articulation if it means it can conserve the sculpt better.

It varies, I think. The older figures like NECA Shin are objectively bad, but then you have things like 1954 or 1962 which looks extremely good.
I don't collect showa stuff (I like Showa but I don't care to have articulated figs of them), but even as a Monsterarts collector I'd rather buy the NECA 1962. It's very cute.

There's also the price factor, which is one of the biggest factors.

Ultima being 10k is a fine price to me, and there's no way they can fuck up the paint like they did with Shin Godzilla.
Shin was also 12k surprisingly (back in 2016 lmao), I thought he was actually 10k but turns out that's just Amiami's pricing or whatever. Considering Ultima should be as hefty, and he came out 5 years after, he's cheaper than what I'd expect.

I just had an idea, you could surround him with a dark cloth, get a clear plastic sheet (maybe cut one out of some unwanted figure packaging) put some spray paint on it to make it look smoky. Stick an LED near Goji's spines and you could replicate the Castle Bravo intimidation display scene.

There is literally no contest between the 2019/2021 SHMA vs Neca. The sculpt alone is in a different league with Yuji Sakai overseeing the SHMA design. It's possible you may have been sent a lemon QC-wise but loose joints are easily enough to tighten.

Daimajin was a Daiei joint, same as Gamera. They went bankrupt in the 70s, barely scraped back together a few years later, limped along for a couple decades, and I think Kadokawa owns them now.

I have a feeling they'll pull a cliff hanger and tease Season 2. There's no way they'll chaos wrap this up in one episode. Not sure if they'll do a final form of Godzilla, but man I just hope one of the toys doesn't spoil anything.

Priming and sealing are to make it last longer. If you just put paint on anything without preparation it will be shit all around and everyone will be unhappy with it.

I would suggest to do everything at first. Then you can start experimenting and see if you can skip it depending on the materials you use and if you are happy with the results. It depends on what you're painting really and how well the paint will stick to it without primer.

I just use the Bandai Tamashii Act 5 stands. They are meant for Gundams so they work well enough for my kaiju.

don't use primer on the rubbery part of Playmates toys . Primer does not cure well on the rubbery plastics they use for the tails. Just make sure to go over the figure with a thorough base coat of grey or black and that should be good for now.

I use an acrylic matte finish sealant spray that I picked up at Walmart. It's really simple to use when you are starting to learn to paint because you just go over the (dry) paint with a coat to reduce the risk of paint chipping.

I'm liking it a lot. It's definitely got its flaws and Godzilla's design itself ranks as one of the weaker ones imo, but overall, I'm having a lot of fun with the show. If you aren't into things like murder mystery novels/shows it probably won't connect well with you, but I've been a big fan of mysteries since I first read "The Mysterious Affair at Styles" when I was like 10.
I just wish the discourse around the show wasn't such hot garbage though. Most of the people who hate it seem incredibly obnoxious and most of the people who love it seem incredibly thin-skinned, but I guess that's just discourse in this fandom this fandom as a whole.

I'm definitely getting the SHMA of him though. I do wish it had been Final Wars Goji instead of Ultima coming out in December so that I could skip FWGoji and give my wallet could have a little more time to recover from Gigan & Biogoji.

I can't speak to the Awakening versions I never bought it, but I will tell you that the normal version is not worth your time. The paint apps on mine were absolutely horrendous. It remains the only SHMA figure that I ever sold. If you absolutely adore the Shin design and the movie and are willing to fork over the large amount of cash required to pick up an aftermarket SHMA Shin then you should get the Omegabeast or try and get ahold of the Banpresto instead.

Bros so I went to Walmart with a friend to look at toys and all the godzilla shit was in stock for once. Saw jet jaguar and gigan and just had to get them. Jet jaguar bc he just looks cool, gigan bc im pretty sure it's the exact one I had when I was a kid. I'd really like to buy a King Ghidorah figure but in the last week of my searching I've seen a bunch of horror stories of people buying from chinese sellers and am hesitant about it.

A lot of them say unbranded, does this mean they're knock offs? How fucked would I be? I mean, this one doesn't even have the right heads for the figure but honestly I kinda like it more.

Every other site I search says sold out. Ebay does money back guarantees, so just go for them? Or let it go?

The Showa Ghidorah is almost certainly a stolen SHMA mold, it came out and at the same time as the Bootleg KOTM Rodan & Mothra set and the bootleg KOTM Godzilla. There is also a bootleg Heisei special color Ghidorah that is on the market as well. From what I've seen both are actually pretty good quality, but like you said

so any purchase is going to be at your own risk. You could spend 42 buck and get a bootleg vinyl, or a phone case, or even nothing at all.

The idea that it was a conversion of a model kit has been debunked, leaving the only options for its existence being that it was a stolen mold or a third-party figure. No one ever came forward as the sculptor, unlike the recent RPO Mecha, which makes that less likely. The fact that it came out at the exact same time as 2 KOTM bootlegs lends a lot of credence to the idea that they didn't know they were stealing a prototype for the Showa Ghidorah instead of the KOTM Ghidorah.
The distance of time since the bootleg's release doesn't really mean that much since we know that Bandai has made plenty of prototypes (mostly in the SHF line but with at least one in the SHMA line) that have never seen the light of day or only been shown at a toy fair only to vanish forever.
On that topic. Where the fuck is my Special Color version Rodan, Bandai?! You showed it at a toy fair you rat bastards, I know it exists!

I'm still hoping 62 gets a special color version because that's the only way we're gonna get another one since the original was a webshop exclusive. 64 will probably only continue to go up in price since he's gotten his two releases and will probably never get a release again. Seems like the best we can hope for right now is that after Mezco does their DAM sets they do more Showa sets. They're only in the 5" scale, but it's better than nothing.

If you're not dead set on getting an SHMA (bootleg or otherwise) or not particularly interested in articulation. I'd advise going for a Movie Monster Series, or similar vinyl figure. With characters like King Ghidorah all he is basically gonna do is stand on your shelf with his wings splayed out, so you may as well go for a vinyl figure, They're way cheaper (depending on age), usually easier to find legit figures, and still just as nicely detailed.

This my main issue with the Playmates stuff. I don't get why the sculpts are so damn soft on all of them. Their recasts of previous figures kind of make sense, but for their original stuff there's no damn excuse.
