Do you tend to buy the older Goji figures (like 54-70s) because you watched and enjoyed those movies or because you love the designs? As someone who has not seen the Showa stuff the designs feel a bit more happy or joyful vs the more modern stuff. I guess it could just be me growing up with 80s+ Edgy Godzilla. That makes those designs less appealing to me

Most Showa stuff that we get these days are candy-colored vinyls that cost as much as a Monsterarts figure. I love the Showa movies and I picked up the NECA 62&64, the SHMA 62, and I've got both of the Mezco DAM sets on preorder, but I can't bring myself to spend $100 on a rainbow Hedorah or yellow Megalon.

A quick glance at BBTS S7 ultimates and they range from around $40 to $80 so yeah if they make actual decent godzillas they will probably start at around SHMA prices. At least $50-$60 to start.

You know, I once asked this restaurant if they really did sell fresh fucking vegetables on my sandwich. I grew up approx. up with the Millenium era (I didn't watch a Japanese Godzilla movie to the early 2000's). I usually prefer most of the Showa designs (over Heisei or Millenium) because I prefer those movies and how the characters look in them. For example, my top five non-Godzilla monsters are Showa MechaG, Orga, Showa Gigan, Showa Hedorah, and Kiryu. That said, I do like almost all designs of all monsters from the eras (with only a few exceptions).

This an admittedly autistically specific thing to gripe about, but why is it that goji 98 was demoted to just "zilla" ? Considering Godzilla's history of shitty dubs, Im surprised the monster we know as Zilla didnt just get dubbed "Gigantis" as a further slight against it. I suppose Toho was just being leninent.

Because they threw a giant baby bitch fit and tried to strip Godzilla of its title in order to denigrate it. Then, literally the very next film they made, they ripped off a ton from the tri star picture in Godzilla 2000 and sucked their own dick off because of it. The Japanese make a lot of cool things, but boy are they sure fucking petty and stupid.

The MMS one is pretty nice--the paint is good and it scales well, IMO, with both 6 and 8 inch vinyls. The Bandai Creation Rainbow Mothra is also very nice, especially if you can find the Fusion one.
The MMS Mothra larva is also nice--some very nice little details, and they're big.

there is a certain simplistic style to those vinyl figures. a certain nice easy going vibe. These figures do not need to be treated like a ming vase. Sometimes something so nice and simple feels really good. They have a kind of soul that feels classic and traditional. Even the whole tag that they with thing feels nice and similar to collecting pokemon cards and such. it's almost like vinyl monsters are part of the japanese culture like wooden clogs are to dutch people.

Articulation is not really a factor in my enjoyment of a figure, especially not a Godzilla figure. I really like the sortof austere qualities of Bandai figures, and it's nice that I can buy new figures today that match, broadly, the ones I had (or badly wanted) as a kid. With that said, the Godzilla Store and Bandai Premium figures are pretty blatantly overpriced. I would rather spend that money on a figure from the 90s which, though probably worse than a modern figure in most every respect, does its limited functions well enough for me.

A lot of people exclusively collect the MMS line and other vinyls. You just gotta look at ShinRobjira's review channel to see that there are people who, for whatever reason, can't stand SHMA all while slobbering all over the MMS line. I'm not shocked at all that people bought the $70 Ride Godzilla exclusive since I've already seen that people will pay far more for a cotton candy-colored Hedorah or a Haruo Nakajima with Godzilla suit legs vinyl. You just have too go over to Showcase Daikaiju to see the prices people are willing to pay for boutique Godzilla vinyls.

There's also FOMO that played a factor in the Ride Godzilla and Ghidorah selling. We've got no idea if we will ever get an SHMA version of the character or a less painted non-exclusive MMS variant, and that fear of never having a version of the ride Godzilla to call your own drove a lot of people to get it.

I could personally never justify spending SHMA prices on a vinyl figure, but I'm not shocked or surprised that others did.

Yeah I get all that, but my point is they should have named him Gigantis. It would have been more demeaning from the japanese and american perspective considering how much of a hack job the gigantis dub was, and it would also serve to demote zilla of any goji status regardless. I also just think it would help set aside zilla more.

I just heat the vinyl up with a hair dryer and pull the tags out to store them. That way if the time ever comes they can be re-inserted into the figure.

Bandai should just make it a policy that at least one figure in every wave of the MMS should be a re-release of an older figure, or devote one entire wave per year to releasing a bunch of popular figures. That's the beauty of the MMS figures, even the old figures still look just as good as the new stuff in terms of sculpt. And as far as I'm aware the casting process for vinyl doesn't lead to mould degradation the same way regular figure production does.

They feel and look good. Its like what >>9094223 says. I have quite a collection of soft vinyl monster figures. I also ordered the recent Godzilla Ride figure because I really like the desgin and the vinyl looks pretty nice. I like articulation, but if the figure looks and feels good it's completely optional to have good articulation, or even any artiruclation in some instaces imo.

My concern is that, so far, everything I've seen from them looks like a cheap toy that would retail in price anywhere from $10 to $35, but they are selling at Figma and SHF prices. I'm fine with spending $120 on an SHMA, even if I grumble about the lack of accessories, but I'm not fine with spending $55 on a figure with the detail and articulation of a toy from the '80s.
I hope they prove me wrong and hit it out of the park as I'd love SHMA to actually have some decent competition, maybe then Bandai will start improving on their eye paint application and give us more accessories, but I'm not a nostalgiafag. I'm not going to spend $85 on a figure that looks and articulates like a Trendmaster when I can spend slightly more and get a figure with a considerably better sculpt and much better articulation.

I can see where S7 got all the money to buy the Godzilla license from. Literally they have their customers over a barrel with the prices they are charging vs the quality of the figures. At least SHMA is rather high quality and high detail. Super7 doesn't even have quality or detail.

Gigantis was still their Godzilla even if by another name. '98 was entirely made by outsiders who they gambled on and lost, so they made it the whipping boy for their own mistakes. They just aren't making them like they used to and the character selection has downsized. Remember in 2010-2014 when we were getting all these new molds a year, and all these new characters? Those days are over. even when we get new figures its still largely the same roster, just different appearances. Its less fulfilling to most to just collect variations of Godzilla.

The urge of a collector will always be to collect. So when MMS and other lines keep coming out with new monsters peopel will flock on for the endorphin rush. thats why you see a lot of collectors here flock onto worse lines than previous ones l because they're producing new stuff and thats exciting. I mean look at all the people collecting a line like MOTU Origins,which looks like dogshit next to Classics, but is getting constant releases. Or people who've jumped to candy toys; if they made Chogokins or Figuarts of any of those and money was no object people would jump on those in a moment. But people can just buy up dozens of these cheap shit toys because they can easily write them off cause they cost the same as a full blown, better quality figure.

The general consensus seems to be that the success of GvK was the final nail in shin's coffin. Without king of the monsters underperforming, there is little chance we would have gotten shin at all. That said, there were plans for a sequel in which shin goji effectively evolves into shoggoth.

Just saw the ending of Singular Point. Yeah there is no way they aren't doing a Season 2 after this with that cliffhanger.
I liked it and how it ended. I don't fully understand the ending or some of the plot points, but its whatever. I thoroughly enjoyed the anime. 7.5/10 for me. I'd lke more toys if they're up for it, especially a model kit for Jet Jaguar.

Kudos to the Singular Point finale for making up for the snooze fest of the rest of the season. If they get a Season 2 I hope we get more like it. Good on them actually using those giant parasites that live on Godzilla. Also the SPOILER kaiju at the end has a really nice design.

Thanks! I've always thought of the '98 design as having a lot in common with the xenomorph, so it just kinda made sense to grab the 7" scale ones while they were still around. Also wanted to try out sculpting and adding joints after seeing Godzilla154's videos where he made custom Showa designs out of Neca 64s.

I don't like the G'98 movie, and for a while that also translated into a dislike for the design. Ultimately though, it's genuinely pretty cool. Zilla is a cool critter, just gotta think of it as being it's own unique beast.

It was the "Rulers of Earth" comic that finally won me over.

It was basically a berserker: charged in and viciously fought anything, regardless of the danger to itself. It wasn't a match for the real Godzilla, but it wasn't treated like a joke like "Final Wars". In their fight in the comic, it actually managed to get in a few good slashes.

He was actually treated fairly respectfully in Final Wars. The fight simply went almost exactly the way it should accounting for how powerful Godzilla is vs a guy killed by a few missiles. I guess more realistically Zilla would have run away at the first sign of trouble rather than attack.

The artist has a whole series of images like this. It's clear he's a Zilla fan first and foremost, but I like how it does it overall. They basically caused the apocalypse because they reproduce so quickly. One-on-one they're weak but there's hundreds of thousands of them now.
The real Godzilla is portrayed as this mindless force of nature, very reactionary like Shin. Zillas manage to slash him up but it ultimately does nothing.

Honestly there's nothing wrong with that. Most monsters have been buffed over time. Godzilla's breath used to be a mist that would slowly melt buildings and cause mild irritation to other monsters. Now he can drill through miles of the Earth's mantle with it.
If they incorporated Zilla into a universe that had other kaiju, then hell yeah you're going to have to buff it.

I wouldnt even call it spergy. It's just an interesting departure from the norm of "over-the-top japanese super monster". I like both extremes for different reasons. Hell, my affinity for GTS stems from the fact that all the kaijus are either mutations like zilla, fucked up genetically engineered abominations, or outright prehistoric carry overs. It gets tiring when all your monsters are just millenia old beast-gods and protectors of the natural order. Plus the mutation angle makes it so that seeing a new kaiju pop up out of the blue isnt all that daunting. It really is a shame the cartoon never got toys, it was ripe for them.

Genuine question to the thread, can you reasonably pit any other kaiju against shin without shin coming out as the victor? I really dont think moat people have begun to consider how disgustingly OP shin really is. Aside from being a general fusion of godzilla and biollante in terms of abilities, having the ability to evolve or mutate to meet whatever the situation demands of him makes him borderline invincible. I dont even think space kaiju like destroyah or ghidorah could defeat him, without either bolstering his powerlevel or just outright getting infected by him like a disease and just ending up as a puppet of his.

Him having to take naps after expelling enough energy is a humongous weakness that other monsters would definitely exploit. If they survive his initial onslaught, he's done. He'll turn into a statue, and then they'll tear him to pieces.

I will always find it both humorous and sad, that when Toho licensed out Godzilla to Tristar they thought that they'd get 3 American movies out of the deal to help keep up brand awareness and then they would come back in 2004 with a big anniversary movie that would launch a new era of Japanese Godzilla movies.
Instead, they got one very poorly received American movie, a rushed Japanese revival that did abysmally at the box office (2000 and & GMK/Hamtaro being the exceptions), all capped off with a 2004 send-off film that was so poorly received the franchise had to go into its longest hibernation period since the gap between the Showa and Heisei series.

I wonder what the timeline where tristar made Godzilla vs. the Gryphon (it's totally not a ripoff of the Heisei Gamera movies you guys), instead of cheaping out and going with Roland Emmerich's movie looks like? I'm not sure how Godzilla vs. the Gryphon would have done at the box office, and I think a lot of Gfans would have been annoyed with him literally having Gamera's backstory, but it probably wouldn't have compelled the Japanese to make the Millenium era movies. Which means we don't get GMK, the best Godzilla movie since 54.

The Godzilla vs. the Gryphon pitch was completed in 1994. Gamera: Guardian of the Universe came out in March 1995 in Japan.

unlikely, Zilla's copyright has lapsed and G98 has been absorbed back into the main Godzilla copyright. We're probably never going to see Zilla again as an independent entity. Legendary could probably do an OCdonut steal Zilla since most of the monsters in the Hollow Earth have spines like Godzilla. Even then it'll probably either be a blink and you miss it cameo in Son of Kong or a remake of Kong vs Rex scene from the 33 film which will finally give us the kong jaw snap that they keep teasing in the MV movies.

The only reason I'm not passing on BioGoji is because I have Biollante and I actually like BioGoji's design. If he's BioGoji price with no accessories, despite needing less plastic, then he's an easy pass.

Except if you want to be running modern games, you'll need more than just standard cpu and motherboard. Dedicated peripherals like monitors, mouses and keyboards as well. At that point you're doing the absolute barebones for your hobby, not even enough to call it a hobby.

Anything above that ends up going in to the expenses of your hobby. That's also not counting quality of life purchases like SSD for faster load times, or more ram. Just admit that most hobbies couldn't be enjoyed on a budget of $100 a year. Even a barebones 1080p60fps computer would run you about $500. Modern triple A games are going for $60. A pc and few games would run you about 6+ years of budget at once.

Personally I'll go a month without spending much and then next month splurge. For example all the Bandai Movie Monsters from last month caused me to overspend a bit. Oh I wouldn't buy those, those are scams. I'd pay max $25 for KB, Mouse and max $130 for a monitor, but monitors last a long time so I dont need to buy them frequently and same with KB/Mice.

This is what people were using with the Playmate toys when they first came out. I think some Walmarts may still have them in stock? They're not perfect, but they scale well enough and they're cheap.
