you can spend like $200 on getting the Monsterarts, or spend like $40 on the NECA. I've got the NECA, but if it weren't for the fact the SHMA is so small, I'd buy it as well, because it looks better than the NECA. If you do go for the SHMA, be aware that it doesn't scale with anything very well (maybe the revoltech kaiju?) because it was supposed to be the launch of a new scale that all the SHMA Showa kaiju were going to be made it. That never happened though because of pushback by Japanese consumers over its size. So SHMA MosuGoji (both versions) are out of scale with SHMA KingGoji and Showa Mechagodzilla.

he was one of the first Godzilla toy my parents ever got me as a kid. He and the other Trendmasters toys spent most of my childhood fighting in dirt piles and mud puddles. Most of them didn't make it out in one piece and some (Battra, King Ghidorah, and both of my Mecha-King Ghidorah) didn't survive their encounter with the family dogs.
I've thought about replacing them all with more pristine versions that I could buy on eBay, but the replacements just wouldn't have the memories.

eh, it's not that bad. The mouth is a bit odd, I don't like the way that the head rests on the neck, and mine had some really bad paint sticking issues that required me to practically nuke it with the hairdryer to free up its wrist joint, but all in all it was a pretty good figure for its MSRP price (it's absolutely not worth the $40 people are selling it on ebay for though)

Probably the Playmates Shin, but most of the playmates toys have been really bad. The exception being most of the GvK line, like the Giant and Mega GvK figures, the 6" Mecha, the 6" Skull Crawler, the 6" Kongs, which aren't great, but they are worth the $10 you pay for them. The 6" GvK Godzillas look horrible though. I like the translucent plastic spins, but the paint is bare-bones, the dynamic posing making one leg dramatically longer than the other is really bad, and the sculpt is incredibly soft.

the funny thing about Godzilla is, most poses he takes are going to seem comedic just due to what he is, he isn't typically very mobile with variable poses or the like. Usually he just lumbers in with a pretty standard pose

I have no intention of buying anything Super7 puts out. Nothing they have produced so far looks even remotely appealing to me. I've never been a big nostalgia guy, but that seems to be the market that they cater to with their 80s-esque toys. If people like toys that look "bad on purpose" because they look like a toy from their childhood then more power to them, but that's not really my collecting niche.
I was sad to see Neca get replaced by Super7, since I think they made some pretty good figures (and some pretty bad ones) at a cheap price and I love my Neca 62, I'm not some anti-Neca crusader.

It's annoying to think this is the only figure this incarnation of Mecha G will ever get. It especially irritates me because I want a solid figure based off this design and this one is just cleaely not it. I've had mine for a day now, and I think I can safely say I like him. I had to pop and oil damn near every single balljoint in the arms and torso, but his articulation is really well done. I only wish he had one more set of splayed/reaching hands, and the spine part of the axe was clear plastic.

Other than the hands yeah, and I think the head, I don't think there are any external changes to the sculpt.

I don't have the KOTM figure, (regretting not getting him now), but the tail feels meh. It holds a pose well, but it's not as flexible as my 2014 Spitfire. I really wish they'd made it longer so that it could replicate the ocean fight scene where he used his tail to drag Kong deeper into the ocean.

7 or so. It depends on the monster, but I do like a huge variety of pose potential. For something like Showa Godzilla, I'm going to be focusing on articulation. For Heisei MechaGodzilla, I could do with a statue.
If the figure is fun and designed well, I can forgive a lack of accuracy. That's more of a bonus than a selling point.

I've only got one in at the moment. I ordered one off of eknights and one from Amazon and the Amazon one isn't supposed to ship until August. He will (probably) stay in the box and be displayed on the boxed figures shelf, with my other never unboxed SHMA figures. I think JJ was the 'code' because it was meant to be the one to detonate the OD. As in, there wasn't a passcode, it was Jet Jaguar who had to detonate it personally with Godzilla blowing it up. It was Pelops II that was setting off the signal from the beginning in anticipation of starting the chain of events, which would also be the solution to stopping the inevitable too. The code to make Jet Jaguar invincible and large was just part of that solution. It's also why they kept saying the code was up in Tokyo near Godzilla in the future, because they were anticipating it to be a literal code instead of it being Jet Jaguar PP. It was destiny for them to fight.

Depends on what you want to do with it. Articulation is fun if you want to recreate movie scenes with multiple figures, for example. I still love X-Plus despite having little to no articulation, since they are so screen accurate.

I don't have my SHMA 2021 Kong yet, but the NECA unironically looks like it has better paint judging from >>9114938 photo. It has that weird reflective glossy finish going on, whereas the NECA has more matte paint. In all fairness, the 2021 Godzilla and Kong are basically priced as "entry-level" toys in the SHMA line.

I thought it was a lot more expressive than most anime cgi, the studio orange people clearly let their animators put more time into it than a lot of rushed cheap shit. Solid visual directing. I’d buy an art book of the storyboards (I’m a storyboarder in my day job)

With live action cg they can just manipulate textures sampled from real life for say a cg explosion. With anime they cannot and thus construct a cg model that looks like it came from a PS2 game and slap it right in the middle of stuff that looks totally different.

I still can't believe that they actually raised the price on units that people had already pre-ordered. I get raising the price on later figures that you either get through grey market distribution, or raising the price of the second wave, but to actually raise the price of figures you already sold is crazy. It makes me glad I ordered mine through Eknights. They may be slow, but at least they had the integrity to honor their pre-order prices.
