Thing is , despite Mitt and his goons doing this to a bunch of other companies, like KBToys, TRU was different. It generally made enough of a profit it could stay afloat despite the load put on it by Bain. ONe of teh bigger reason TRU could stay afloat were starwars toys, and the advent of episodes 1-3 made them a ton of money and kept them mostly solvent.
This is when the economy took a huge downturn and TRU was struggling as kids couldn't buy toys, and prices went up, so they were elated when a new star wars was announced and was coming out.....except kids didn't like new star wars. Overseas the Chinese despised it too, and would only buy storm troopers if that, made worse by how poorly everything after TFA did almost everywhere but China especially. So what you were left with is millions of dollars of unmovable stock and no way to even make your money back, combine that with the debt leveraged on it by Bain and it simply couldn't exist anymore.
tl;dr bain and mitt romney piled debt on and despite this TRU managed, until they bought a ton of toxic product with nu-wars printed on it that didn't sell anywhere.
