Has anyone restored a hotwheels there? Starting my 1st Hotwheels restoration and I have one question. Where do you get these wheels? Can you simply order them or do I need a donor car for them?

I have few cool rides, Mustang, Vette and more but they have broken or mission wheels. Is there a way to get brand new redline wheels or real riders wheels?

I'm not expecting much from my 1st attempt so I'm trying on a car I don't like much in case something goes wrong.

tbf it takes much less work to restore a 90's/2000's car, since most of the pieces are still used these days. It's not like a redline which stopped doing almost all their original building conventions by the mid-70's.

Near the end of previous thread an anon posted Firetruck complaining about 4 wheels instead of 6. I looked into my childhood collection and my 80s Firetruck also had 4 wheels. Moreover, I see real Firetrucks also tend to have 4 wheels for better driving and turning ability.

Correct me if Im wrong, but what's the deal with 6 and 4 wheels in that Firetruck from last thread?

Because it originally came out with 6 wheels. and looked natural in it's design, much like the tank Invader that people keep posting.
Removing the wheels takes away from the intended design, which was a 6 wheeler.
The lack of the wheels also is glaring with nothing to really make up for that loss of space.
The truck you posted, Fire Eater, was built for 4 wheels, if you saw it in 6 wheels, it'd look off to you no?
That or I'm overthinking this and this thread truly isn't filled with middle-aged manbabies but instead millennial and zoomer trash, in which case this thread is a complete subversion of my expectations.

There are places you can go to get legit repro redlines with just a google search.

however, redlines are plastic on plastic tires. If your intent is to make a total reproduction, then that makes sense, but since its a resto and all plastic wheels are ugly (even legit old school redlines) I would advise you on going to a third party vendor and getting yourself some attractive looking real riders with rubber tires, and treat yourself. Make the car look better than new, since it's already been trashed once and will never be a real mint sweet 16 ever again.|

As far as scalping goes, I recently pulled 3 STH Mazda RX3s out of a dump bin at my secret spot I like to call the "Honey Hole."

While its true that scalpers have pretty much trashed every major retailer and there's no point in even setting foot in a walmart or a target because those places will be farmed out, you can still score in off-the-radar locations like dollar stores and discount/closeout stores where most career scalpers won't bother to look.

Most scalpers follow a rotation and they don't deviate from it to check new territory. You can luck out and find a virgin case if you find a store that isn't scalped to shit. It just takes time and patience.

I should also add that for toy collectors, Vietnam is a dream destination, assuming this Covid crap ever ends and you can actually get into the country.

First of all, it's just a gorgeous country full of wonderful people, and its cheaper than shit. The most money you'll ever spend in Nam is on the plane tickets. Once you're actually in country, you'll spend nearly nothing on food and hotels.

Vietnam is a toy mecca. Because they're in South East Asia, most of Mattel's contracts are either in country or right next door. (Mattel moved the lion's share of their toy production to SEA after China's last lead paint fuckup) so a lot of the toys are locally produced and go straight from factory to shelf. South East Asia tends to get the American style tall cards for Hot Wheels. Also, do to the proximity to Japan, you also have all the great Japanese brands too.

Vietnam, South Vietnam at least, is also incredibly lax in term of traffic laws and rentals. You can rent a moped for next to nothing, hop on it, GPS map every shopping mall and Lotte Mart (Korean Costco) and hit them all one after the other.

You can scan 5 big box stores a day, no problem.

You'll get all the best of Tomica and Hot Wheels with no scalpers, Unmolested, unfiltered pegs with full cases and no fantasy car bloat from scalpers pulling all the collectible cars.

Its a die cast wonderland. Go before you die.

You can be in and out and have the shopping trip of a lifetime for less than your stimmy check.

I don't even get premiums usually, I don't have the type of room where setting them up to look good is favorable.
It doesn't help I like to roll my cars around and have a little bit of paint weathering from use, which would be the last thing any of you want to have on a premium.

If you actually care about your car looking good, don't get reproduction wheels. All of the ones I've seen in person look like dog shit and you could tell they were repro from a mile off. Get donor wheels and use a silver or chrome paint pen to touch up the hub.

Found some ferrari evolution-something line and there was a f40 Lm which was nice aside for cheap wheels. Casting looked fine and it had nice details for being slightly more expensive than hw

How do you know which cars are "treasure hunts" or "chase" or whatever? I recently started buying just random ass Hot wheels, whatever I thought looked cool. I was at my local Dollar Tree and they had tons (I noticed my Walmart is always picked through). I ended up getting a few Batman themed ones, and the Mad Manga art theme one (with the mech or robot head painted on the door). Now I kinda want to start buying more for a small display area.

I've literally not seen a single new casting for 2021 in any of my local retail this year. Granted, I went hunting less frequently because of COVID, but it seems the rule is that unless I magically get there the day they put this shit on the pegs, there's no chance in hell I'll see anything new.

Is there a single toyline more ruined by scalpers than hot wheels? I collect Transformers too, and they're pretty bad, but nowhere near on the same level as Hot Wheels.

Do you guys just collect? I recently got down some of my old track for my 6 year old nephew and have kind of gone off the rails building custom track components out of corrugated plastic (especially drift turns by way of countersteering) and am working on an openSCAD script to generate perfectly banked turn tracks and jumps when give an input velocity(and distance for the jump, and degrees of direction change for the turn) to 3d print. A lot of aftermarket stuff out there is pretty lame, thinking of just making a whole system.

At this point I think I'm more eager to play with the hot wheels tracks than he is.

If it was released earlier when tech was more primitive but the game was still the same, people might've gave more of a shit about it.
Reminder this came out like a year and a half after Turbo Racing, which could be considered an experimental mixed bag for the time that people definitely enjoyed. (I liked Turbo Racing even for the janky shit)
A better car combat game in the form of Velocity X came out in 2002 on more modern systems; Bash Arena was the better isometric view HW demo derby; World Race was that one game for that group of faggots in the diecast fanbase who won't stfu; and then you have Stunt Track Challenge which is basically what most people would want out of an HW game. That being a fun arcade experience that isn't too janky, looks decent, and has stuff like customization. If that wasn't up their alley, the shitfest Beat That came out in 07, and the upcoming Unleashed is literally gonna replace it regardless of the quality because yes, Beat That is genuinely that poorly made and no nostalgia is ever gonna hide it.

Only missing an MR-S since HW hasn't made one yet. Had to use a Matchbox 3rd gen Miata for Omiya's Roadster since neither MB or HW has done a 2nd gen Miata casting and this MB one has the right color. Used the 2013 casting for Shinji's 86.

the thing is that they still make this shit back in 2010 (the bottom says 2009 but all hotwheels copyright year is always one year behind) eventhough all acceleracers cars stopped production in 2006-7. Atleast they could have referenced it a bit with tampo and marking in newer cars.

Ok both TH's have the TH logo behind the car. The "Super" Treasure Hunt has a TH logo on the car somewhere and 99.9% of all Super Treasure Hunts have Real Rider tires, rubber tires with real rims. I say 99.9% because the Back to the Future Flying DeLorean didn't have rubber tires but was a Super Treasure Hunt. The one and ONLY I ever found in store. Figures! Super Treasure Hunts are more rare and come 1 per 8-10 cases. Where as Regular Treasure Hunts are more common and while aren't in every case they were easier to find until scalpers sucked the life out of collecting. Regular Treasure Hunts also have a logo on the car. The Hot Wheels circle flame logo is always somewhere on the T-Hunt. Again both of them have the circle flame logo behind the cars, trucks, motorcycles, whatever.

I can't recall what the deal was with this specific Matchbox line, but this car came in a little transparent tube with a black lid that it could park in like some kind of glass space garage. I can't seem to find any info on it, though.

It used to be part of Californian car culture, and remember alot of HWs is built around that.
Plus keep in mind lowering cars like that is generally deemed a stereotypical latino thing, since again, Californian customs, Alot of Mexicans live in California and helped shape alot of America's car culture. Blame them if you aren't a fan of the dropped muscle cars.

Sounds like how I collect. Most of my collection is opened. If I really am into a casting or want to customize it, I'll grab 2 or 3. I have NEVER re-sold or scalped my collection. Some cars that I KNOW are expensive I might keep sealed, or mint, whatever. I also build tracks and race my cars and Monster Jam Trucks, so keeping them sealed is pointless for me.

My apologies anon, the scalpers have destroyed collecting in my town. They get it all from Hot Wheels, Matchbox, Auto World, Johnny Lightning, M2, Star Wars Black Series figures, as well as other collectibles. I've been to 5 stores and EVERY ONE had nothing for Matchbox, Premium Hot Wheels....crap, Mainline Hot Wheels....nothing, and Monster Jam Trucks even less. It sucks! Not everyone can spend 8hrs a day at stores, some people have lives and families. It's a peeve that really irks collectors here.

Kinda got blindsided by this little flatbed. I love it. Fun concept, great casting, and these copper colors are gorgeous, plus moving parts are always fun. I would have loved more flatbeds and tow trucks like this when I was a kid.

Looks like both Solido and Norev made it in 1/43 (roughly 5ish inches). Solido is a cheaper brand so if you want better detail you'll want the Norev.

For a single car it was an acceleracers spectye at 152$, for a lot it was 160$ and it was the entire racing drones team carded minus the trading cards. Still working up to buy a chicane but almost $250 for one toy car isnt worth it

The Gulf livery is pretty much to Hot Wheels what the Supreme brand is to clothing. Gulf liveries do have some solid history racing at least, so they are based on something substantial, but they're just hyped to the moon for no good reason.

I've not been following Hot Wheels since the 90s, so a lot of these are completely new castings for me. It's a joy to see them getting such lavishly detailed decos.

Also, the suspension on the RLC series is fantastic. These are such fun cars to vroom around your desk, I'm stoked that the designers took this into account, really makes the aftermarket prices worth it.
