It is one overarching story, but it's like watching an episode of Spongebob or those kinds of shows. Most chapters are their own little one-off stories that may or may not matter in the grand scheme. Other times we have the story of those kids with the abusive dad, which was mentioned a bit ago, which seems like a one-off, but they came back a few times, and the older brother eventually becomes a Redeemer. Lots of things will carry on, whether they're minor or not.
There are also some weird variances, and power level issues, but if that doesn't bother you too much it isn't a big deal. One weird variance was Spawn telling Sam and Twitch that they're like his best friends, then the very next issue he says he has no friends, though in that case Twitch brings up what Spawn just said, so it's almost like poking fun and the weird little continuity holes that occasionally pop up.
Either way, I'm having fun reading it overall. I'm looking forward to the figures and this is what I do when I'm excited about new toys, go and learn more about the source material. Once I'm caught up here I'll go back to Curse of the Spawn, and Sam and Twitch and possibly whatever else is out there.
