this might sound stupid but are there any gunpla that are like actual toys rather than delicate plastic models? i know im not going to like play with it but i dont want something with joints that get lose really fast or breaks easily
also i specifically like the grunt style guys like the gms and zakus

Not my impression of robot model kits for the last 15 years or so.

everything ive heard about them from other gunpla people is that if you mess around with the posing more than like once a week the joints get loose

You'd be surprised how durable a lot of modern kits are, especially if you use a little ultra thin cement in the pegholes and seams.
Just try the RX-78 Revive version. It's all over the place in stores like Target and Hobby Lobby. Engineering has come a long way. There's also a Revive Char Zaku that's really good and a green grunt version coming out soon.
And if you don't mind putting in more work modern Master Grades are especially durable.

Modern kits are largely very durable but don't be disingenuous. Ther are kits like the Leo that still rely on polycaps.

Some kits like for IBO you need to do some extra tightening or gluing though. That spine thing doesn't really work. You could blame the polycaps even.

This. Modern gunpla is pretty sturdy but they are always going to feel worse to pose and handle since they are not built to be action figures. If you're not buying plamo to enjoy the build then you should be buying something else that fits your wants better. RDs do the action figure thing much better imo, and if you just go to manda, you can find tons of old grunt MS and stuff from non-gundam mecha shows for cheap. The FMP RDs are some of the best figures period.

It can vary kit to kit, your building technique matters too though.
If you cut parts haphazardly, or sand the wrong places you can stress the plastic and smooth areas needed to keep joints tight.
You'd be better off buying RDs if you wanna mess around with it honestly.
The only exception is if the design you're after is only available as gunpla.
Gunpla engineering technology has also advanced over time so recent kits are usually better, however because bandai is constantly experimenting with gunpla occasionally they'll try out a design choice that ends up not being the best.

I've been buying RDs for the past few years and am now finding myself going back to gunpla - partially because of the huge price difference and radical improvements made to engineering.

Aside from being lighter, HGs feel more like action figures now with all crazy articulation that they pack in and molded details that often match/surpass RDs.

Between MSiA and Robot Damashii I have most of the Zeon line-up MS from 0079, their joints feel much sturdier than my two gunplas

Bandai made a lot of action figures in the late nineties but they're probably all overpriced or worn out/cracking from the semi-hard plastic going bad by now. The best you can do is metal build and they're usually around 250+ around pre-order.

If Robot Damashii is to much $$ the only other option thats really out there now is the Gundam Universe line which is a very limited range of available mobile suits. They also lack articulation, accessories and are fairly large compared to Damashiis or HG kits.

Real Grades are your best bet. Post Unicorn releases have a sturdy MG-Style inner frame the doesn't have to deal with as much weigh as their 1/100 countrerparts do so they stay tight a little longer. The only downside to RGs is the MS selection. Other than that, you can extend the lifetime of HG and MG joints by thickening them up by clear coating them, of course it'll wear out eventually and you'll have to hit them again. I recommend you get RDs, especially Ver. ANIME releases since they look good out of box and are actually intended to be posed regularly.

You might be more interested in Robot Damashii/Spirits. Or if you're cheap, you can get Gundam Universe (not as bad as people say, IMO). I just picked up the new Crossbone Gundam from Robot Spirits and I'm enjoying it. Some of the thin pointy bits do feel fragile though.

if you want to spend a little more than $20, there is the anime accurate figs called "Tamashii nation robot spirits"

I feel you bro, I used to buy a lot of gunplas but most of em just felt so finicky to play and pose with, and the only enjoyable part of the gunplas were the building process.
Super miniplas are really good imo and they really hit that buildable plastic model but durable niche for me.

If you're interested I'd suggest you check out the super minipla Live Robo, the transformation is super smooth, the build quality is super durable and overalll really fun to play with.

Most super miniplas do have a high price tag but I really think they're worth imo, but make sure to check out reviews first because some of the early super miniplas are really finicky, have really shitty stickers and you dont get a lot of paint with them.

The site >>9144584 posted is the best catalog/database of Gunpla ever made and nothing even comes close but if you're strictly looking for release year then the Gunpla wiki might be helpful:

Though being old doesn't always mean a kit is automatically bad and being new doesn't automatically mean it's good. Just a general guideline. If you have a specific kit you're interested in look up video reviews or find it on dalong and see if it looks good. Google translating Dalong's reviews is really rough around the edges but can usually give you a good idea if he's criticizing something or praising the kit, especially when he uses text emotes.

I bought the Eva 01 HG kit and that makes for a pretty good action figure. The cable that comes with it is good for balancing so you can put it in pretty dynamic poses and it'll stay standing
