As far as cheap IPs go, I wonder how cheap SwatKatz and ExoSquad is.

I can't see Super 7 going smaller scale but it'd be cool if someone picked up ExoSquad or if Playmates were able to revive it somehow.

Do the Horsemen sculpt digitally? I guess I assumed they still did things by hand. Either way, whatever Super7 produces in terms of promo shots have just been renders recently. When people are talking about how much better things are than other versions (like Goldar) it honestly means nothing until they show what the final product looks like.

Zica unfortunately lost the license because the series 2 KS didn't fund. Super7 wouldn't be my first pick, but at their prices the little companion bugs would probably at least come with their respective warriors. Not sure there's all that many other accessories they could pull from outside of the standard load outs.

Those hasbro versions won't likely be that on-model though, and I just want some of the characters I liked in the cartoon. Brian heavily states that this will be a long running line that could go on for a decade like MOTU Classics and that he has the next 3 years of figures already in development with over 36 figures currently being sculpted and planned. He's even doing vehicles he says, but he doesn't know when he's going to do it; maybe after the Turtle Party Wagon. He said he's going to be doing all sorts of obscure world building characters that you would have never gotten from Hasbro, and will be doing both Marvel comics characters and Sunbow characters.

I'm contemplating giving up Classified if they license more Hasbro media such as Visionaries or Mask. Brian's really committed strong with this and negotiated a deal that will last for years.I think Brian might have been teasing that he's doing Cold Slither also. Classified is settling down off of some of the more tacky modern design elements it started with. It seems to be going in a place I really like. Just modern yet sci-fi enough to feel a little "Metal Gear Joe" without going over the line. And the price point is okay. Nothing but respect for what Super7 gets up to, nothing at all. But the price point of the Ultimates is off putting for me. It's why I just never looked at the TMNT stuff. Two lines at the same time, the most nonexistent distribution possible around me, just fuck it.

Though I will say this Joe line has me looking over the Thundercats line all over again, so one way or another they may get this idiots money. Hell, I'm now looking at the Silverhawks, and I never saw a damn episode of that show.

I was never really a fan myself of pre-sculpted posing and tended to favor the neutral Kenner pose if you ended up with a 5POA figure. It felt like you got more out of it and seemed strange when a figure didn't have it's weapon if it were pre-posed, which was a common occurrence as a kid where you'd lose a weapon.

It does certainly make me consider dropping Classified, since this is kind of what I always wanted out of a collector focused line, and it seems to be banking on the fact that Scalpers and exclusives are ruining Classified-- so here's then a made to order alternative where you get whatever you want as long as you can have patience and wait. About the only negative is army building $55 figures, but honestly how much were people paying to army build Classified off of ebay? The same price? More? We're even getting vehicles eventually, something that hasn't really even happened much in Classified yet outside of a couple motorcycles, and Brian said he's going to do them, but not until after we've gotten thru a few waves, and likely not until he launches the Turtle Party Wagon. I'd expect him to make a Hisstank; perhaps a Vamp or something, or if he really wants do something like Snake Mountain, a Joe Headquarters based off the vintage toy.

Sky's really the limit here, and I'm sure there's some contracts with Hasbro where they can't just yank away the line on a whim contractually, and we're guaranteed at least 3+ years of these figures. I'm also expecting Joes to shit the bed at retail with the Snake Eyes movie figures and the 6-inch child line.

Honestly, I would be fine with this. Just a v2 Snake Eyes that isn't a down payment on a car is all I want from o-ring reissues. Any other reissues are just icing on the cake.

The only reason we never got a v2 Snake Eyes re-popped was because Hasbro lost the mold and was too lazy and cheap to sculpt a new one. When they first decided to revive Joe as Toys R Us exclusive back in the mid-90's they planned to do repaints of the classic versions of figures and have v2 Snake Eyes and v1 Cobra Commander, but both figure molds were lost. Cobra Commander was to be painted dark blue with gold like the hooded version, but since they lost that mold they repainted a Battle Armor Cobra Commander instead in the intended colors.

But would Hasbro make v2 right away, or would it be Commando Snake Eyes like always since he was the first version?

I doubt I'll go too hard on the Ultimates line....and I won't even touch the Reaction stuff, but I'm super glad they seem so....gung ho...about the franchise. I only have a few Super7 figures, and they're nice but I'm not super crazy about them. But just having these guys out there for the fans that want them is a great thing and should hopefully bring life to the franchise as a whole so other lines also see increased success.

As an Army veteran of Asian descent, Larry Hama was instrumental in getting them to do more diversity than that. He turned Storm Shadow good so the only Asian wouldn't be evil, got a non-stereotypical Joe made in his image, made random white figures Turkish or w/e, etc.

It's very clear Super7 cares about the toys, and again I'm not even a huge fan of a lot of stuff they put out. But overall I think their choices make sense, two main franchise good guys, the main villain and a popular enemy army builder. If they stick with the two good, two bad release schedule, I expect we'll see a lot of cool Cobra characters show up way earlier then they would in other lines.

As for Hasbro's offerings, I'll agree the Retro stuff seems to be barely there. I get the feeling it has a super limited budget and is something they're having trouble getting on the shelves. Fan demand may be there, but I doubt there's much retailer demand. However their Classified stuff, outside of it's distribution issues, has just been stupendous and is easily my favorite 1:12 line to date. I personally never even planned on picking up the line, but after the reviews of that first Snake Eyes started coming out, I got sucked in hard.

...I kinda hope the same thing doesn't happen with the Super 7 stuff, but that Duke does look good.

I put barely any effort into collecting Classified and I have most of the figures released so far (only missing Beachhead and Vipers, who will come back at some point). Even if I had to wait a "whole year" to get some of them, it's worth it because they are, for the money, phenomenal figures. Just because you're impatient doesn't mean the toys are bad.

To be honest too, I like the look of the Classified Viper, but it still doesn't quite scratch the itch for me.The same goes with the Cobra Troopers. I like them, but I really want those more classic looks, and I know the Super7 ones will be a lot closer. And as a matter of Brian said he was going to be be detail oriented, which he pointed out with the ReAction Cobra Trooper, showing off that he sculpted two different torsos because of the different straps, and sculpted 3 different guns, because of animation inconsistencies on the straps and the look of the rifle, and then said that he wasn't going to use the same torsos for a Cobra Officer, because in the cartoon, the basic troopers have a regular shirt collar, but the officers have a different collar. They also have different web gear

The way you're making it seem though is that people are being physically and emotionally hurt by having to spend hours, days, nay WEEKS even camping at their coms for even the slightest chance of getting a glimpse of the fabled "Classified" figures. In reality, most of the line was up on most major online toy shops (I got most of the line on either Pulse or BBTS) for weeks. It was also said right from the very start most, if not all, of the exclusives would pop up again because that's how Hasbro works, and to no surprise at all they have. And I'm sure they all will again. All people have to do is wait a bit, and they'll have no problems collecting this line as Hasbro will not just let it's popularity wane while there's still a demand.

But the main point still is, just because some figures are hard to get a hold of, right now, doesn't mean the figures themselves are bad or not worth it. If you're a fan of Joes or western 1:12 figures in general these are great toys and lots of fun to play with. And I'm sure the Super7 ones will be just as good, assuming you like the aesthetic they're going with. But you'll have to wait for them as well, so either way it pays to be patient with G.I. Joes.

Yeah generally, although they scale their figures to have different heights next to each other. Smaller figures for example the TMNT Ultimates, the turtles themselves are only slightly taller than a MOTU Origins figure. But my Classified Flint next to a Super7 Foot Soldier is a little bit shorter, but Foot Soldiers are supposed to be tall and lanky.

So my guess would be Cobra Commander might scale a little taller than Classified Flint.

It'll probably be super expensive depending on what Brian puts in it. Do passengers get in the cockpit from below like in artwork, with the seats raising and lowering from the ground, or does it have the canopy just open up like on the toy? The Thundertank was like $400, but that's probably bigger than a Hisstank. A full size Stinger would also be interesting since in the cartoon they had a backseat area that they don't have in the toys.

Retroblasting tried to start a full crusade against Super7 over the Thundertank demanding it be sold at retail for like $50, and even did an interview with Bobby Valla about Action Force in which he goading Valla to take shots at Super7 and try to get him to talk shit about the Thundertank's price.

The Thundertank is more like a centerpiece to a collection. I'm not really expecting them to do a Cat's Lair, and it sort of takes the place of such a playset. I didn't buy into getting one, just because I have limited space.

I think it's already been happening. Andrew Franks from BossFight said a few weeks ago that people complaining about how they can't get a toy and will something ship, don't know how bad the industry was hit and how much shit is still going on.

Bossfight is like over a year late on the last wave of Hacks. And Super7's Ultimates have been taking forever and a day to get out. There's also the fact that you can't even find G.I. Joe Classified at retail, which Hasbro claimed was because of Covid.

He interestingly talked about an inherited property and it's profits, which I assumed might have been MOTU Classics, which he said the original company(Mattel) that had this property, which he doesn't name(MOTU Classics), wasn't making and profits off of it really. He said for a big company like them, the profits are more like an accounting error, but for a small company like Super7, it's a big deal.

Yes. Bain bought TRU, loaded it with unrelated debt from their other bad ventures and investments, they claimed it wasn’t profitable because it couldn’t overcome the insurmountable new debt. Declaring bankruptcy and closing the company allowed them to flush that unrelated debt away without paying for the majority of it.

what led to the bad end was that all their lenders said "fuck you" when Bain try to offer them TRU to make up the lost profits which is what lead to the closing of TRU because they thought the bankruptcy would go like all the others and the lenders would forgive the debt and take the company instead.

They did this trick too many times and in irony if they Bankrupted TRUs near the beginning it would have survived and it would have been another company like iheart radio that would have crashed for good.

Brian said in the Pixel Dan video the other day, that they've had 3 of the figures just sitting in a warehouse in the US waiting on the fourth figure, which is still waiting to get off a boat holding up the wave. It's in the G.I. Joe UItimates video Dan did.

He said they've also had the next wave of Thundercats ready to show off for some time, but he can't show them off, because he's waiting on wave 3 to get out first, and then like a month or two later wave 2 is supposed to arrive, and then two months after that the next wave of Thundercats, because wave 2 has been finished and sitting in a Chinese factory most of this time.

NECA is obscene for the level of detail and articulation for the price but theres always the risk of a 'dud' or needing to warm up the joints. Many feel rough depending on the figure (ie Godzilla)

Super7 with some exceptions tend to do more retro or simplistic stuff with a more soft feel aping older toys from past eras or more high quality looks of simple animated shows from the 80s (see GIJoe Ultimates for example). They have done some good high detail stuff like the 87 MOTU Super7 figs

He can, I am a Neca fan because my shelf is full of them, but I am aware of how many issues figures have, not all end broken and bad, but they happen more often than they should
and wish they could upgrade their games.
If Neca figures were 40 bucks or 60 with the current quality control, they would be the worst.

Most I'd pay for the type of figs Super7 is putting out is 30, except for some specific MOTU Classics figures that had a lot of detail put into them. To me, since I've never had a Neca break, Neca and Super7 are the same, only Super7 charges 25 bucks more. From that perspective, the choice is rather clear.
