/g/entoman here, got a question for you warhammer boys. My younger brother has started getting into the models and painting, and he has a birthday coming up soon. I want to get him something, but I know like nothing about which figures he likes or warhammer in general. I know he recent got a set with maybe like a dozen figures, bloodbath ghoreblade something. That's all I know though, I know it isn't much to go on.
I had though about getting some terrain for him to display them with, but that seems to mostly be a DIY kind of thing from what I can tell. Are there any figures or accessories I could get for him? I know he's pretty good to go on painting supplies, not sure what else he needs or wants though, or what even would be good.

I mean, it's pretty simple. If you really look at it, the only points of articulation that are really hindered are the head (boxed in from turning 360 by the huge jaw and surrounding pauldrons) and the swivel motion of the shoulders (blocked by pauldrons). Other than those two limitations, all the other joints can function completely normally like any other action figure line.

If this was say, Amazing Yamaguchi, he would likely engineer pull-out joints for the neck and shoulders that would look funny at certain angles, but allow for a full range of poseability. But this is Todd, so we'll likely just get limited joints. Still though, three limited axes of movement on an entire figure with a bulky design like this isn't too bad. I hope they can at least get it to that point, and don't get hung up on some other stupid issue. It IS possible to make bulky figs with great articulation! Hell, Todd himself proved that with the Marines. Now he just needs to do it on a larger scale here with the Nobz.

But now that i think of it: Meganobz are fairly more complex designs than Space Marines for the mere virtue of randomness and scrappiness, they either go with what i posted or the Boxnobz shown in most media (including the official minis), and how could that hinder the articulation, but i'm a newfag when it comes to McFarlane so i guess they can work around that with a bigger scale.

I know they're TECHNICALLY different, but McFarlane is essentially making the same shit as JoyToy next wave with Reivers. Reivers are basically just Infiltrators with skull face helmets. They otherwise wear the exact same Phobos armor.

I doubt there is an outright license conflict going on, ESPECIALLY between McFarlane and Joytoy. Joytoy is not directly distributing outside china so the licenses should not affect the other due to being different regions. It IS HOWEVER more plausible that there is a conflict with the Bandai License due to both being asian regions, but even that i find unlikely since in general japanese companies don't tend to bother paying the extra money for exclusivity licenses even in the cases of far bigger properties like star wars and marvel.

It's possible Joytoy voluntarily chose to not compete with TWO companies making standard Space Marines. But in my Opinion the absolute MOST LIKELY situation going on is these companies are only making exactly what GW is telling them to make. It's a "Make this" as opposed "not allowed to make the following items". I have a hunch McFarlane is being allowed a wee bit more freedom in presenting some stuff he might want to work on, due to his success so far. But GW is still the final arbitrator

This is how McFarlane and Spinmasters are able to make mass market childrens toys of DC characters at the same time.

There's lots of different ways to seperate a license, not just in terms of regions or even market.

This is why I'm surprised that JoyToy isn't releasing the WH40k figures in the US. makes me wonder if McFarlane is making smaller set of figures.
Or it could just be GWS being dumbfucks who didn't think to split the license in terms of scale.

Getting a new distributor isnt as easy as opening a amazon account, you know. Shit needs to be verified, with paperwork being sent back and forth, and then since you're new, you don't even get whatever discounts they'd normally get from your normal distributor (or you're not ordering enough to get discounts).

It's a lot of hoop jumping for little reward.

OR BBTS's blocked from their official source and they're currently jumping through hoops with another distributor and preorders start in 3 months.

Fuck if i know, but those are my best guesses.

Revell knowing full well they are nothing more then just a massive collection of outdated molds they bought from now defunct companies got super insecure over Bandai making up to date molds with far higher accuracy then their's. So Revel filed a complaint with Disney to enforce the exclusivity deal of the license, so Disney had no choice but to tell bandai to stop selling to BBTS and Amazon.

I wouldn't be shocked if this might be a case of GW being way too autistic about the rules and thinking they HAVE to enforce shit. Since they are not only new to this industry of licensing out their IP to outside figure companies, but also notorious for enforcing copyright themselves through countless lawsuits.

They HAVE to enforce the licensing agreement, or they'll get sued.

In your former example, Bandai AND Disney can all be sued because licenses are binding contracts. They have to enforce this shit and even have written/video/recorded evidence that they tried to do it too.

So I'm tempted to get one of the Battlesister heads from TMM, but I'm curious as to their quality. My only experiences with 3d printed stuff is super grainy, super brittle, super paint absorbent stuff. While all that is fine for a weapon or a belt, for a head I don't think I'd be able to deal with those kinds of issues. Especially one that's supposed to look like pic related. My painting skills are already nonexistent as is, but if the mold itself were bad, I don't think it'd be worth the buy.

I know there's at least one anon who painted up one of those heads, so how do they hold up in general?

The sculpt is sharp and very well designed. The plastic is durable enough to stand a blast of scalding hot water to remove paint. I'd highly recommend that, along with anything that TMM does

ShowZ is based in China so they would have an easier time getting their hands on these. I asked a local store if they could get them as they stock JoyToy but haven't heard back from them.
ShowZ seem reliable but I don't have any experience with them.

ShowZ has quickly become my primary source for Transformers 3P over the last year. In terms of established storefronts they are almost always the cheapest, or very close to the possibly cheapest source of a 3P. The only people you find who sell cheaper will be because they send with no box, or the box will be totally fucked. The only seller I put above ShowZ (for Transformers 3P, anyways) is that hjz401 guy on ebay.
Furthermore, every single item I have purchased from them comes surrounded by form fitting styrofoam with reinforced plastic triangles on each corner of the box, keeping them collector grade. All the while being free shipping. They also have an actual after sale support system which is an insanely impressive thing to run given the industry. I've never had to use it because every one of their packages has arrived in tact, and usually earlier than estimated. BUT if you go under Flash Sale and you see any products labeled SAMPLE it's because of some defect to the toy, and ShowZ just sends the customer a brand new one for free and will liason a discounted sale of the busted one.
If anyone is on the fence between buying that AliExpress pre-order or ShowZ, ShowZ hands down they are good to go.

I recommend Testor's clear coat, which you'll also see with the name 'dullcote' or some such. It's a strong varnish for acrylics (resists scratches and paint rub rather well) and is a true matte finish.

Keep in mind that this will dull the sheen of metallics.

Testor's is....ok, I suppose. It is technically a matte varnish and will help protect your paint. I was displeased with the quality of the matte finish however, it wasn't as flat as I wanted and still reflected a fair bit of light. If you don't mind spending a little more for the flattest matte you can get, splurge on some Tamiya TS-80 or Mr. Super Clear Flat.

If it's not a parody, you can't directly or indirectly make money from it anymore. Battle reports, parodies like TTS and podcasts are still fine. Lore channels might me on the chopping block since they use a lot of official artwork. Any serious animations can't be done for profit anymore, whether it's through youtube ads or patreon.

So while taking pics for a review, i actually noticed that the skin does have a wash of blood over it.
Whether the factory wanted to cheap out, or they fucked up, the wash is so light, you can barely see it with the eye, but the camera pics up on the details.
Check out the bottom chin where the red wash pools a bit. Its similar results on every piece of flesh. Sucks too cause a better wash, and paint on the bolts would have went a long way.

Pretty sure that's a brown flesh wash and not blood. Very common to use that shade because it makes flesh look alive and would not work at all for blood. Honestly even that's a terrible misstep because dead flesh should be pallid and washed with a light purple and then dabbed with blood but there's no way they were gonna do that much.

Yeah, you could maybe call some of these pink, in a very desaturated, dull, hospital-y, kinda way, but I think most people would call these shades of brown at first glance. At any rate, I don't think it's conclusive enough for you to declare it's "clearly" pink. Like the other anon said, reddish-brown washes over pale flesh tones usually turn out this way.

brown is darker, thus wouldn't be pink. it'd be more purple... or you know, brown.

see pic? the paint itself is brown/purplish, but with the underlying tone, it can look pinkish. the pigment itself is very obviously not pink though.

Also, i like how retarded you are, thinking no one would notice the fact you're sampling the dark recessed areas, instead of the areas that are in full light.
Of course those areas are going to appear darker in color, dumbfuck.

So your point is using a reddish brown wash on lightly flesh coloured paint will produce the colours we see on the flayed one? Reikland is also a red/brown wash too so I don't see what point or gotcha you're trying to make. You don't wash a figure for blood, you use a mix of red and a dab of dark brown and apply it with a mox of varnish for a shine. You don't just slap brown wash on and call it a day, you do that to shade, which is what this looks like on the figure. That or actually write your argument legibly like someone who speaks english and isn't acting like a pedantic fucktard because two people said you were wrong.

Honestly the head is the biggest issue if I drop it and put a hat on the helmet it could make a hilarious pimp marine.

Fucked up the left shoulder and the jump pack needs to go back to the drawing board. When choosing colours a friend suggested going full purple and I complained it looks too much like Vile from mega man. Then said fuck it lets give him the Vile colour sheme.

Theres a facebook group that has files that are ready to print or you can buy from 3rd party sellers on ebay. Either that or resize the mini files which comes with a lot of trial and error.

Just look up 'Mcfarlane 40k' and you'll find a couple. I just joined one for some file hunting and they are SO cool about sharing them. Depending on what Marine you're trying to make, the parts are most likely already available.

Also, he sent some free purity seals. Is there any way to permanently bend the plastic so they're less artificially flat?

They're not that fragile. You might have a tough time taking off the original helmet so heat it if you can't do it without heat. The printed heads just pop right on with no fight. For the seals, probably heat.

The default heads are basically a hollow shell of soft plastic. You can use heat but you don't really need it. The seals can be heated and made softer but be careful because if they aren't soft enough they will break.

it's not even just on the other side of the head. the unpainted version also has an eye peeking out from behind it, and entirely covers that side of the head too looking more like an emo one eye cover hair cut. there is also a very distinct difference in the way the flesh is hanging off the pauldrons.

The funny part is I'd have actually preferred how they did it with the crow robins to this. Just toss a random variant in the regular box; people who were gonna get several will probably end up with at least a couple different ones, and they can get the missing one off ebay or whatever for regular prices. Now there's no way to get three different ones without getting screwed on one, and nobody's happy. Which is extra annoying, because even though I like the new parts, the flayed ones are already cheapo retools.

I still don't get why they gave the Necron's AP versions. I know the different Dynasties have different colors, but I don't think anyone would have been to upset about not getting to fully paint them. I hold the same opinion for the Tyranids. Behemoth, Kraken and Leviathan are all cool looking but I personally wouldn't care if we only got the Leviathan Fleet Nids. But then again I think both the Tyranids and Necrons are easier to change with some paint additions as appose to needing a full blown repaint.

The feet look very...horsey. The chains are cool, but the lack of a tight belt to cinch off the waist gives this a weird look...like a bulging tummy.
