I believe the very very very first announcement for Haslabs was them saying it was for items too big for retail which means rejected by retail. My understanding is they would prefer to sell things at retail because retailers have bigger pockets then us, hence so many Target exclusives

I don't think there was ever a canon answer for this, but it seems to be generally assumed that if Soundwave won the fight to be the new leader, his first order would have been to go back and rescue Megatron. He probably didn't stop Starscream throwing Megatron out because it would be him against everyone else.

That's something I noticed way back when while I was collecting the ME build stuff. In my headcanon, Cobra hires and trains the mooks and general soldiers, but contracts out it's leaders as they're already proven and trained in combat. So they get the superior knowledge and combat prowess of trained combat veterans leading their essentially half trained "mass produced" troops into battle.

I refer to them as Mercenary Generals and generally have one leading all the different Cobra divisions and units.

It's going to be the retro wave. The last FFF GI Joe mentioned that they weren't revealing the next wave since Walmart was going to announce it on there own collector con thing. But it's walmart and they shipped them last month and were put out. They might open up preorders that day though for those who missed them. That's my display, here's some lined up more straight on. I agree that Zartan is too big, and Destro seems about the same size, but Zartan's armor and hood make it seem like he's bigger to me. The only size issue that really bothers me in this line is Gung-Ho.

They’re very high quality. Distribution has always been the biggest issue, but they come with more stuff than Legends, usually have zero paint issues that plague PR Lightning, better faces than Black Series, and better articulation than all three. I’m consistently surprised at how good each figure is, which is why I’m desperate to get the core characters before the line dies with the Snake Eyes movie.

Like, no they aren't. The ball joint waist plus upper torso crunch sets them apart from the other Hasbro lines as a cut above from there. Now, the effectiveness of that is debatable, especially with the Beachhead torso and the various overlays, but for the most part They're a lot more fun to pose and play with than Legends and don't have those grosse flat waist cuts.

I do have a number of nitpicks, but they're more minor annoyances, like would it kill them to put at least one extra layer of paint on some weapons? They're able to go way out of their way to look some figures like Duke's guns look nice, but some other figures have such ugly looking weapons when they're just a solid drab grey or something. Not just a Hasbro thing, but it feels more and more like some companies are fleecing us by selling us a standard edition of a figure with gimped paint and accessories, and ten down the road another version for twice the price with more paint and accessories. Its a double whammy of taking us for a ride. Also, shit like the Cobra Trooper weapons having giant pegs sticking out of them can be really an eyesore.

I had to make due with what I had. To this day it baffles me how few of Cobra's big named characters got decent updated figures. Like, most of the grunts and vipers got FANTASTIC figures, hell Alley Viper has like three different great figures and the 50th Eel is just an amazing update to the already pretty great original 25th one. But Blood, Mindbender, the Twins? They all each got like one figure each, most of em in multi-packs no less, and never saw any kind of update or modernization like so many of the Joes. Blood got it the worst imo, because he actually had three figures in '08, but all of em had the same awful, static, inarticulate arm for no discernible reason. People can argue whether it's cybernetic or armored, but one thing everyone can agree on is that it should be able to freaking move.

Anyway, speaking of Classified, I finally picked up a CI Trooper from Target today! That makes my fourth Trooper, so my squad is now complete. One Squad leader, two riflemen and one squad marksman. Now I just need to hunt down a pair of Vipers and a Beachhead and I'll be set until the Breaker/Classic Roadblock stuff starts hitting shelves.

That's the main issue. Roadblock has a head size similar to the rest, so he just looks like a taller guy. Gung-Ho's head is noticeably bigger and makes him look like he's slightly out of scale

If it's just a toy, the character backstory isn't really an issue unless they start a new cartoon or comic based around the Classified line. A new toy of Firefly v2 should absolutely include a sword, though.

The trooper is a fantastic toy in general and makes for a great mook for other toys to beat on. I can't really speak of Firefly though as I don't have him in hand yet. Just finding him on the pegs should be considered super lucky, even with his rerelease Target is just awful at stocking their toy sections.

Yes. Firefly’s articulation is a little blocked by his bomb vest but he’s stacked accessory wise. Cobra Trooper is as well. I really like Snake Eyes too, I’m sure he’s available online somewhere, but those three are pretty loaded up on accessories.

Bummer about his gimped articulation but I figured as much. Visually I like the Viper more, guy has some great colors and cooler weapons imo. Not too fond of the gun Firefly has but I'll be giving him whichever I don't have the Cobra Trooper holding. I just settled for Firefly given I got the 25th anniversary one as a gift from my dad years ago, and bought the Pursuit of Cobra one when it came out. He's just seemed to pop up in my life randomly so he seemed like a good second choice, plus the head sculpt has personality. The Cobra Trooper seems very solid and I love the goggles on that one. I have a strong preference for the newer Snakeyes that was shown so I might wait for that, if I can get Barbecue first I'll go with him as I like colorful freaks the most.

That anon that went to other threads because someone here dare implied other generals believed Classifieds wasn't worth it or whatever it was will always blow my mind, the amount of ammo that gives to throw around terms like "shill" and "he does it for free" will be effecting here for months at the very least. in the 90s and 00s my siblings and friends used Sunbow Soundwave as litmus test based on what people thought of cartoon G1 version of him. The idea being if you thought he was loyal you bought into the "nice guy" dogma shit that fuck over a lot of kids back in my day. There is a broad difference between following orders and being loyal but kids that got raised on the "nice guy" mentality always conflate the two.
It was fun because some people would point out things we missed like all the times Soundwave would just sit there and watch as Starscream try or did take command and how often he just do what he was told regardless of where the order came from while Shockwave would lose his shit if someone even implied Megatron was unfit to lead. My granddad who watch a lot of the old cartoons with us compared him to a guy he served with in the Vietnam War where he just do what he was told to a T but if someone executed his superior officer he just be like "so where do you want these supplies?"

Yeah this is really evident with their turtles line where those often have even less articulation than MOTUC did. They seem to hate any articulation breaking up a sculpt more than necessary. It’s not ideal obviously but they still pose well enough on a shelf normally, just can’t do anything crazy dynamic. In the case of joes it is going to be little more annoying though since they all use guns and can’t shoulder them properly, though that’s hardly anything new for gi joe toys.

I'm not understanding. What issues? It's made to order. That takes time regardless of the companies size. 08/16 is the closing date and they expect Spring 2022, that's 8 months from now. Almost all toy products take 12 to 16 months to mass produce after prototype phase. Hasbro and Matty show off goods well after mass production is underway (hence leaks being so common 4+ months ahead of announcement) made to order companies don't start production until after funding. Look at all the Haslab projects, they have the exact same wait times.

What the fuck is up with that? Red Hulk, one exclusive and the Marvel team answer the issue out right in their streams and announces more product of him out right, Star Wars team state they saw issues with distribution of older figures and apologized and rolled out the archive series to meet the demand issues and still works like this now as a "greatest hits". But the Joe team has the Target fuck up and whistles past the graveyard. It's not even that they didn't do anything, it's the fact they just pretended it didn't happen and pushed MORE Target exclusives that until the very last waves were near impossible to get.

Well between whats going on with Super7, the evidence of business practices, and the input Bobby Vallah gave to Scott the toy guy, it sounds like Hasbro doesn't value this IP as much as they do Marvel Legends/Star Wars and are afraid by doing great with it, it will hurt the other IPs, which is stupid if they gave another company their own IP's to compete with.

Occam's razor would be that it's just an inexperience team at the wheel. A lot of the Power Ranger team work on the PoC GIJoe line and Marvel Legends and it shows in the products. I don't know the whole team but the over all crew seems short lived inside the company. Now you could make a reaching argument that the team was picked because they didn't value it but, again, why "let go" of members and bring in bigger veterans to help with the brand? Seems to point to the idea of straight incompetence on the teams part or Hasbro not weighing the team right.

In this case it doesn't add up right. At least not on that angle because why would you pour more money into it and change the team up with veterans and get rid of other staff? The closet case is they wanted someone gone and saw this as the opportunity to let him/her fuck it up, but I feel it's more likley wrong place, wrong time, with this new team and unlike the more veteran groups, didn't know how to weather the storm of Scalpers and Target's phobia of using captcha. Robosen seems to be the exception to the rule. Flame Toys, Super7, and just about anyone else with the license is explicitly prohibited from making transforming Transformers. As for source, I don't have "solid evidence" other than what I have seen and heard from the fandom. They could be wrong but again, Robosen is literally the only example of a licensed transforming Transformer. It's also the only licensed TF to be sold on Pulse to my knowledge.

In the IDW comic written by Aubrey Sitterson it made a big deal out of shitting on Snake Eyes for being a white guy appropriating Asian culture, and went so far as to feature a scene where Quick Kick beats him up. Sitterson in the scene also has Quick Kick wear weighted clothing; ironically he "appropriates" Asian culture by stealing the idea from Dragonball Z, which he said he was a big fan of.

I encourage you to read up on Hama's history and his work.He's a cool guy over all but he was woke before the term was a thing, hell he was politically correct before that term was a thing. He has openly admitted most of his body of work over at Marvel was at the behest of what Hasbro wanted, you can even see it in his body of work with the Marvel Joe run, he stent with Devil's Due was short because he thought he have more freedom but discovered that Hasbro still had rules about what could and couldn't be done with characters. What you are seeing now is what he really is and what he wants to be with his work.

You are correct that a lot of influence occurs but right now you are just suffering confirmation bias because it was clear all the way back in the 90s Hama had progressive thinking.

I think it's less Hasbro and more Paramount. Hasbro is probably more content for him to remain completely faceless for the kids to super impose themselves on him, hence why the kids' line doesn't have any unmasked version of him. If Hama is telling the truth in his interviews, he held his cards close on Snake-eye's race for the script of film because he was waiting to see if Storm Shadow was going to be the only planned Asian character to make it into casting processes and when that was the case he ask if Hasbro had a reason for snake eyes being blond with blue eyes to which they answer "no reason" so he pushed to make Snake-eyes Asian.
