Vampyre Castle and Boo! Haunted House are the only ones I really like.
Hearse, Zombie and Werewolf are the same shitty vehicle sets people complain about ITT every thread when Hidden Side or Ninjago does it but it's okay when it's MF because it's "soulful."
Train looks okay, but I don't like that it doesn't come with a track, so it feels incomplete.
The Frankenstein set is literally just a bit of a wall.

You know that's a fair take. I didn't care for most of the vehicles in the end, but I did find the hearse to be a fun aesthetic.
Ghost Train really doesn't need the tracks, and modding it to run on them isn't a terribly hard fix. Great set if you ask me, highly recommend it.
Frankenstein is a weird one because you're absolutely right, but I found it cheap and picked it up last year. It's got its charms actually, as weird as that may be. It would have been better with more of a structure instead of the lame car, but for what it is it's got some nice parts to liven it up.

it shits me a little that the jungle adventurers are the most expensive, I've collected all my faves from desert but the one you posted and the big jungle temple are crazy expensive for what they are, not to even mention the zeppelin

Well, it's my favorite set, so naturally when he asked what's the best non ideas set from the last 5 years, I posted it. If you wanna know why it's my favorite set, I like the wacky aesthetic a lot, the build experience was very pleasant, it's a great representation of a foodtruck, generally I hate stickers but the stickers make this set look really good. A pig that has a restaurant/foodtruck franchise that sells hotdogs is also a very funny concept to me.

For those of you who were talking about Spyrius last thread, here's a couple of their newest designs.
Following the early success of the small yet capable Saucer Scout Spyrius command found it fit to invest resources into a larger, more capable variant that could not only engage larger ships with more confidence but also serve as a mobile command unit for small groups of scouts in order to better coordinate their actions across contested areas of operation.
The result was a scaled up version of the scout that enjoyed more armor, better propulsion and heavier weapons. Crew size was also increased from one to two. While not a complete match for dedicated space fighters it can compete reasonably well with most non-fighter designs of other factions and provides added capability to any Spyrius force.
It was also fun to build.

The jungle theme was back when Lego was on the verge of bankruptcy and their sales were at record lows. Prices are high because there simply aren't many around.

I would honestly be surprised if Lego made more than 5,000 of the large temple set.

I disagree on that. Jungle would cause a couple people to flip out IFF there are tribal minifigs. Even then Lego has shown based apathy for Ninjago. Either way if its just empty ruins then no one would care. Orient Expedition would cause a couple people to flip out. Egyptian ruins? Not so much. Egyptian Ruins exploration would be fine.

How could you like them? 60s style chick was so dumb and was there only for looks, becasue her partner needed someone to be a placeholder for him to start in program. There was only one or two instances when he let her do something of her own. And the two blokes that builded twardowski on chicken? Does seem that way yeah, I'm still going to get it because I need that Bo. Will be interesting to compare them, I may customize the new one since I do like the shaping and coloration in some places.

Another thing I thought was interesting and perhaps questionable was how the cockpit section rotates on a ball and socket connection. Enough friction but kind of hard to reach to spin it during flight, would be better if there was a knob on the back. Possibly something I'll work into the new one since this one will stay pure.

I'm building a CAD MOC of a place from a Soulsborne game and I'm now realizing the curse of not being a very skilled MOCer because much of my part usage is probably inefficient which drives up the price. I'm at 600 pieces now and approx. 150 USD for what's really just a medium-sized thing.

There's a tag on Lego's website that says "Retiring Soon" that they usually put when a new wave of sets is released, to then be discontinued when the wave of sets after that comes out.
But considering Barracuda Bay just came out like 8 months ago or something, it's gonna be around for a while longer.

I like they re-used the Jedi starfighter windscreen domes but other than that it’s completely inferior to previous releases. That coupled with the fact that it’s out of minifigure scale and only includes two relatively nonsensical minifigures means this is a hard miss

I'm actually glad the minifigure selection is so boring. It makes the fact that I was definitely not getting this much easier to swallow. I'd be super bummed if they threw yet another one time exclusive ultra sought after figure in a set I had no intention of buying. As they often do.

The zombie set is unfortunately a vehicle set, however, the mausoleum is really great.

The frankenstein one is similar in that the selling point is the lab more than the car. idk that the lab is exciting though. It is kind of a dud.
The werewolf set is obviously terrible tho.

There's nothing wrong with the swamp creature of mummy sets either. They're neat solid little sets. Little mini-vehicles are perfect.

It's silly how everyone is screeching about the scale of this thing when the gimmick of UCS is "HUGE big money set with detail."
The millennial falcoom and slave I were in scale simply because their canon proportions happened to nicely match up with the size of the series. A minifig scale gunship would just be the same thing as 75021 but more overpriced and wouldn't be a UCS in the first place.

Minifigure scale is roughly 1:40 give or take. Multiply the dimensions of 75060 and 75192 by 40 and they're pretty close to the measurements of the "real thing."

The falcoom is about twice as long as the gunship in terms of canon measurements(34m versus 18m) so UCS gunship to be minifig scale it would need to be roughly half the size of the UCS falcon.
The 2017 UCS falcon is 84 cm long so an in scale gunship would have to be somewhere close to 42 cm.
Pic related is 48 cm long. Making a highly detailed accurate set at this scale is doable but it would look puny compared to the rest of the line., about the size of the UCS A Wing or Snowspeeder.

Having something that is ultimately a troop transport, not being able to carry troops is kinda odd. They probably would have been better off doing another figure-scaled one. The gunship looks really empty with no one in the cockpits and inside the bay.

Every UCS set that's upscaled kinda has that issue with IMO since they're so large in comparison you can barely see the pilot in the cockpit. The Y wing and Xwing have slots for an R2D2 and they look comically small in comparison to the ship.

Fuck Lego for canceling Mixels among other things. They such nice and cheap part packs. Which is probably why they were shafted. Lego doesn't want people to have nice and cheap things. If you want mixel joints then you have to buy the occassional 12€ robots or worse.

If the set was made slightly smaller it would probably be minifigure scale at least on the cockpit and the laser pods. But even then the troop bay would be way too big. Nice looking set, but I think waiting for a minifigure scaled Republic Gunship would be a better idea.

Front and the ball turrets look great but the square engines/cannons? on top of the wings is not a good look.
The ramp and the back look much better than 2013 version .

Windu and a commander with no pilot was a terrible idea. A minifig of the guy that flies the ship is a no brainer, even if it reused prints/molds.
It's like if the UCS falcon had an Obi-Wan instead of Chewie.

I bought a Halo Pelican not too long ago. 2000 parts, no stickers but only prints, almost no misplaced colours. Big bricks to fill out gaps, sturdy frame. ~160€

I like these steel framed shelves from amazon because they allow the model to be viewed from all angles due to the open sides. They also have a great load bearing capacity if you have things other than lego to put on them.

Even if I personally don't like it and would prefer minifig harmony, I think its a great line for little girls and I'm happy so many of them enjoy Lego. Minidolls are very successful and have a large audience of girls and some creepy dudes in /lg/. I don't think there is anything wrong with them continuing minidoll lines. I don't think they should pursue a course of removing minidolls when there are so many minidoll fans.

Cant believe it took nu lego so long to do non cartoony cars. Their shift away from blocky builds and using lots of small pieces does not work well with how they price their sets or their for kids cartoonish stuff.

Small mechs and 8 wide cars are in that sweet spot where they can make solid, aesthetically pleasing builds without charging over 60 bucks per set. Absolutely Kino.

I always find it stupid how their 2 car sets costs more than 2 of the single cars put together. That Ford set is 90 aud here and that is just ludicrous. I do have a cool Mega Bloks land rover to be my token 4wd though.

The sets with 2 cars of the same size cost as much as 2 cars put together. The nupar/ford actually use a lot of pieces, so the price is higher. I'm not a fan of the bronco but the ford gt looks absolutely stunning, I still got the set but I wish they sold them separately.

Oh yeah that makes sense. It is indeed cool to see speed champions doing a full size 4wd. Its uncool how they always price lock the most desirable cars by pairing them with less awesome cars but at least we arent license fags falling for the same ploy but done with minifigs.

The Bronco does have a sleek futurism to it that is at odds with me wanting a big rugged 4wd. Does it seat 4 people in it or is it just standard speed champs 2 seater? Being able to cram shit with minis nostalgically reminds me of my childhood action figures. Also dug up a shitty cybervan moc i made years ago.

Offbrands from China do better prints than Lego at this point and if you slapped the Lego logo on the basic bricks, I wouldn't even notice Im building with offbrand.
Offbrands just have inferior technic tolerances and have shittier translucent bricks. The rest is good and chinks make big sets that Lego cant make without charging people over 200 dollars.

It also means Lego can use 8 stud wide to slap shitty stickers on rather than using ingenious techniques to replicate a certain detail by bricks like the front lights for example. Might as well just buy a die cast scaled replica car at that point. There is no SOUL left in Speed Champions ever since Lego started pushing for 8 stud wide. Eight studs plus fenders/wheels is just too big. Both relative to everything else Lego does, but also in terms of space taken up. Also, as products, you get less car. And at the end of the day, I'd rather have four cars than three, and it's not like the six-stud wide (plus) ones are bad. If you find that a good trade-off, then that's fine. I don't. This was one of my favourite sets as a kid. Pirates II is kino as fuck. It's a really weird baseplate though, like why does it have all those pinholes on the sides? It can only be used for the 2x2 plates in the set.

I quite liked that idea and some other details in their build which I stole when doing my own expansion of the ship, though I don't like how everyone just turns it into a three-masted ship. The feature distribution of the Barracuda really gets thrown off like that.

Here is my very subjective answers.
>unique build technique that is simple to put together
>good color palette
>pleasing overall shape
>easy to understand what the scene is supposed to be after only a quick glance
>detail without excess
>fair price
>good quality minifigures if present
>entices the user to make additions to it
And last and definitely least
>stability
I think stability is a good thing. But some of my favorite sets are very fragile. And stability won't be the saving grace for any set. But it does add something extra to an already great set.

i think your list is pretty good but you didn't mention the most important aspect in my opinion
if you look at the picture you can clearly see that the set really encourages you to use the minifigures to create a lot of different playing scenarios, like the mummy breaking out of the tomb, or the skeleton getting out of the grave. there is a car that can be used to either escape the scene or get into the action. you can use the tent to create a scenatio where the adventurers are resting, not expecting a mummy attack. also the minifigs have a lot of different accesories which can help them in their adventure
i'm mostly trying to think like a child here but it also gives a lot of opportunities to create many different scenes with your minifigs if you're in that sort of thing
meanwhile, imagine a generic modern set like star wars, there's not much to do other than just putting it on your shelf and never thinking about it again

I've based the design on Matsue castle which is more of a military castle than a palace like the bigger ones. It let me have a complete roof with a limited height.

Is there any good way of adding glue to a cracked minifig arm? Just started fiddling with some of mine from that era where they seemed to come pre-cracked and while I could try and track down arms that match from other figs (11th and 12th Doctor figs from the Ideas set), I also don't know if I care all that much.

Honestly I understand your frustration to some degree. Once I bought some huge used plates, like 2x16 and 6x12, and they stuck them all together, as a stack, with no staggering. Just literally a huge brick of plates.

Brick separator be damned, it was miserable. Sometimes I stack parts to count for inventorying sets, but I always separate them to re-inventory before shipping.

As a seller, all of my pieces are always loose but separately bagged by lot, relatively.

Only things I ship put together are minifigures, new or used. Anyone who thinks their mini is "used" because I put it together can fuck right on off, though.

Is Monster Fighters the modern day Rock Raiders in terms of how fond in its being remembered? I can't recall a "modern" LEGO theme or release wave that gets memed this much. Not exactly my thing but I can appreciate it.

I've been gone from LEGO too much, but being a NEET gives you time to engage with the hobby but not much else. Somehow there's never enough of the right brick but that's a really bad problem with no income since you can't solve it.

There's a new Slave I supposed to release on August 1st. It's a smol boi and costs $50, most of the current sets available are mediocre right now.
There's a 2019 one that is bigger with OT boba fett but is retired and already hit retarded aftermarket prices.
The helmet line looks shit but Fett is one of the better ones.

That's 65-70 accounting for inflation. Still, it's bigger and has more figures, though it does have fewer pieces. I know some people appreciate the levels of detail in modern sets, but I don't think it's a good trade off in terms of the amount of toy you get.

I would always use jumper tiles to put a 5-wide set of plates with the seats on top to replicate this. It works better in modern cars.
