I prefer using the version which came with the Bandai 5" figures, the larger size looks better in the Lightning figure hands, and the back end isn't retardedly sticking out in spite of the front end being collapsed. Better painted as well.

I feel like they really overthought the MMPR monsters, and if they had just did them as cheap basic line figures, which in turn would have been properly scaled, they'd have flown off pegs. I don't think a monster of the day needs to have as much articulation as a Ranger, seeing as they serve as little more than props for the Rangers to beat up on, and many of them were barely even mobile in the show. Basic line articulation would have been fine for them would . Hell, I'd be fine with 5 POA vinyls like Bandai's old 8 inch figures. The only villains I really think need to be fully articulated are general types like Goldar and Ecliptor who fought the Rangers on a regular basis, really popular main villains like Zedd or Mesogog, and evil Rangers.

No, as shitty as they were MMPR have at least had toys representing the characters under the helmets. Getting someone like Trey or the second Turbo/In Space cast is much more exciting to me because I never dreamed we'd see them represented in toy form after all these years. Unmasked Alien Rangers are now at the top of my list of things I never thought I'd see but would absolutely love to have.

The only solution is to shaft mmpr for a few years, and focus on other teams, which will help repair the brand. As of now, Power rangers will only be known as that goofy 90's show. You took characters with as much pottential as batman and superman and downgraded them to "thats so raven" or "seinfeld" levels of cultural influence.

There could've been a real power rangers movie universe, that would have gotten rid of marvel, but instead they just modernize the first gen of characters.

It would've been easy to make a kyuranger movie, a zyuohger movie, and a go busters movie, and have a big team up style avengers movie. Instead we have a comedy show with one peg of figures at retail.

Hasbro, look at kamen rider, and apply that to movies.

The mmpr team loses novelty everytime its used. You want mmpr to be the emergency release valve for when shit hits the fan and you need too hold off for a few years.

Instead mmpr characters should be used sparingly, and it should be a big hyped up event when one comes on the show or makes an appearance in the comics. The mmpr team should be seen as legendary figures who are only called when the situation is dire.

Instead now mmpr is the expectation, not a legend. See how disney sealed movies in the vault constantly. It just makes those characters that much more important.

A good example is the mandolorian. Luke was only ever brought back in as a full power jedi knight when people were saying everything except the mandalorian was dead, and disney was a failure. Lukes reappearance, along with the mandalorian being a good all around show really is going to help guide new content and improve the star wars brand.

I don't want mmpr to disapear, i just want it to be rarer, and less used. I think making a one season cameo like grid connection every generation is healthy.

Except MMPR rarely appears in the show. Since the series ended in 95 they've appeared in 8 total episodes, not counting clips from old episodes, Super Megaforce transformations, or the suits being in the back of the Zeo Power Chamber. Of those 8 episodes, 2 also featured every other team at the time, and 5 also featured returning Rangers from other seasons. "Always a Chance" is literally the only time since MMPR ended that they gave it a dedicated wank in the show. And to compare to some other Rangers who have appeared in multiple episodes since their seasons ended.

what is the problem with rereleasing merchandise that people want on the side when you have whole lines of figures, zords, and playsets every year dedicated to the latest show. It's not like they stopped making the yearly stuff in favor of MMPR. Of course a hundred million dollar movie is going to be about MMPR and not one of the lesser shows. I think part of the issue was how non-red core members tended to be exclusives, which made them more difficult to get if you were late to the party or outside of Japan. Also made them more expensive than their general release counterparts. The price point in general I think was just too high for full teams to really work. Granted Super7 is trying it, but who knows if they'll actually attempt to move beyond the sure seller MMPRs.

Ultimately I think figuarts should have stuck to reds/sixths/extras/villains, and not bothered trying to do full teams, most of which they ended up failing to complete anyway. The Shodos work better for a team franchise like Sentai/Power Rangers in my opinion. You get a full team in one shot for a reasonable price. I only wish they had been a bit larger at around 5 inches so you could use them with the old vehicle/villain toys, because I doubt we'll ever see either in the Shodo line, and the only other villains that exist in 4" scale are the ReAction figures (which probably won't ever move beyond MMPR) and Bandai America's brief forray into 4" territory from MMPR 2010 through adjectiveless Megaforce.

The reason they go to mmpr, is that only a few people in design actually care about the franchise, and those same people are told by the penny pinchers in accounting that its too much to put paint apps on the figures. It costs too much to properly stock the shelves. It costs too much to put any long term investment in the brand.

Mmpr is a symptom of people in the company never watching sentai or power rangers. They literally made pumpkin rapper because he had a funny gif, and it failed tremendously.

Hello /toy/, I'm not really into figures but I got interested into taking a look at PR toys (specifically MMPR) the last few days after finding some of my old toys and just wanted to ask a couple of things.

Why are the Legacy Zords so expensive? Is it because since Hasbro bought the brand there is no chance of Bandai ever re-releasing them, or were the prices always like this? I wanted to get the Thunderzord or the Tigerzord but they are like $300-500.

Also, I've been looking at this Lightning Collection from Hasbro and wanted to get the MMPR Red Ranger and they are like $100, why? As I said, I don't really know how this stuff works but I saw that figure was released around December 2019 so it isn't even that old. I guess this is just the MMPR nostalgia tax?

I was looking for an alternative figure to pair with the Red Ranger SHFiguart that I own and I found one from the Legacy Collection that it looked alright but it was also kind of expensive for its quality in my opinion. Do you guys have any other recommendation?

I saw it and it looks really bad. As I said, I'm no expert on this and I have always been very picky, but even on amazon's reviews they were thrashing the quality.

It looks like he goes for like $45 loose, so I’d wait until you saw a listing that cheap and hop on it.

For my in Space rangers im using the Legacy collection girls, I dont care that theyre slightly taller. I prefer a tall woman over the disfigured pudgy downgrade that they pass for a female body in the Lightning collection. Lightning collection fem rangers have awkward shoulders and legs spread too far apart, very awkward. I almost bought the Lightning yellow ranger until I saw it in person.

I have the SPD pink ranger right next to me, everything about the sculp is a downgrade from the Legacy body. The heigh difference doesnt even warrant it, like the legs being stuck spread apart, her arms unable to bend straight downward. My SPD pink cant even do any iconic pink ranger poses, thats the biggest problem.

I have numerous basic figures displayed with my LC figures and they look fine together. Season 3 and Zeo had power levels though. The Rangers stopped fighting unmorphed once Rita and Zedd got the Tengas. They were too strong to fight unmorphed in Ninja Quest, so the Ninja suits were used as a stopgap between their unmorphed forms and full Ranger powers. It was pretty much exclusively used for fighting Tengas. On a couple occasions the Rangers didn't morph to when Rito accompanied them, but they would typically go to their fully morphed Ranger modes when facing monsters. This suggested the Tengas were stronger than the Putties which preceded them, but not strong enough to necessitate fully morphing. Once the Tengas were upgraded by Master Vile the Rangers stopped using their weaker Ninja forms completely, and instead used their stronger Metallic Armor forms to combat them.

In Zeo Tommy and Jason fought Cogs unmorphed in "A Golden Homecoming" before Jason became Gold, and with Tommy unable to Morph, and they struggled and eventually resorting to running away until they could be teleported out. That's arguably the two best fighters on the team, and potentially in the PRU as a while, unable to deafeat a group of Cogs unmorphed. The only other instance I can think of in which Cogs were fought unmorphed is Forever Red, and one could argue Venjix's Cogs were constructed by different means, and weaker as a result. Hell it's possible the Machine Empire remnants didn't even have Cog production capabilities at all, and had to use old, possibly repaired/refurbished units.

Those are clearly established power levels. Silly one-off scenes of kid Rangers or Bulk & Skull besting enemies doesn't invalidate what was shown to be the norm the majority of the time. After Zeo they stopped trying though, it's never established where the Turbo Rangers or Piranhatrons rank in strength compared to prior seasons.

Never say never, Hasbro got the rights for them and VR Troopers when they bought out PR. But I’d be surprised if we saw these before the shitty Beetleborg knock off Machine Empire generals from Forever Red.

Any kids impulse buying are either the last of the netflix kids generation or kids going "shit that looks cool gimmie gimmie" so I don't buy that.
Tokusatsu in general thrives off "oh cool suit!" and that's half the reason PR has survived so long.
It's a shame saban never went after Janperson/Exceedraft/Jiban since Hasbro could realistically get away with a general torso/thighs/thigh armor with new tooled arms/belts/helmets (and calves still most of the time) and pump out just about any metal hero in the line up.
Tough Gavan could still be retooled into the spelbien cast if they really wanted to go wild.

An abandoned trademark means literally nothing. There's several abandoned trademarks under the Power Rangers umbrella but that doesn't mean you can suddenly make a movie with those without getting slapped with a C&D from Hasbro or Toei.

Also the copyright is still active. Beetleborga and VR Troopers just aren't available on Netflix or DVD anymore. They'll probably resurface when Hasbro decides to start uploading episodes from the Fox Kids era on their YouTube channel.

The fact that they have to keep fixing shit after the fact (if at all) shows something is seriously wrong with the way they're currently doing things, and it's amazing people get to keep their jobs in spite of doing them so badly. For instance the same guy who fucked up MMPR Red's helmet did the sculpt for the wearable version (which was eventually scaled down for figures), and he only took it upon himself to do better after seeing endless shitting on his first attempt. Good on him for getting it right the second time, but if I'm Hasbro I'm not taking that chance and hiring the same person to do a job they already fucked up once.

short answer is the same way factory errors occur, everyone is busy, working overtime, on the same things over and over, your brain will actually start filtering bad and you miss stuff over time. Happens all the time in movies regardless of budget, Lord of the Rings had some of the most ridiculous such as watches, cars and cameras just in shot in the background because the crew, studios, etc were working so hard mistakes were rising up that they likley catch if they had more breaks in between to catch all this.

It's not that it's redesigned, it's that it's PRZ/Power Chamber Zordon. It needs to be MMPR/Command Center Zordon, with the simple blue base and the crystals sticking out the top. I don't get why they're not just doing that. It'd probably be easier to make.
