I have this original Bigfoot from Greenlight I got not too long ago, and it's pretty amazing. I've got a couple of other monster trucks stashed away at my folks' house with the rest of my childhood diecast, I should dig them out.

Slicker tires, something like a laser weapon, if you're painting it add digital looking waves, and reduce tire size back to stock.
Cyberpunk doesn't go for the big tires and dirt look unless you're pulling an apocalypse.

I just got back into collecting for the first time since I was a kid, myself. I really like these Hot Wheels anniversary sets they've done every year since their 50th. They've used a lot of great castings in cool team colors. This year's set is orange, blue and white, but good luck actually finding them in stores, because I certainly couldn't.

Go to Matchbox, HW has less overall quality unless you're willing to shill for 5-7 dollar castings that'll probably inflated due to scalpers.
Either MBX or stick to something like Greenlight, former being as cheap as an HW but far more detailed and focus on real cars usually, and the later being pricier but has so much more detail.

Besides Hot Wheels, what are other brands that offer cars with spectraflame quality paint? I don't have a credit card so I can't buy a red line club membership. Also, I don't want to pay a reseller and getting all the equipment for making my own customs is kinda expensive. I just want some nice shiny cars.

One question, do you prefer extremely realistic looking stock models? Then for mainline, Matchbox has the best looking stock paint and "normal" stock cars. Now if you want rubber tires, metal on metal, meaning metal casting AND base, then Auto World. They have the best looking cars with the most detail of all US makers. The creme of the crop is Tomica Limited Vintage. They run $15.00-$50.00 each but are insanely detailed. Suspension, painted interior, detailed dash and steering wheel. They are pricey but so worth it. Also Hot Wheels Premium lines are good as well. They do Fast And Furious cars, and other movies licenses as well.
The point is what do YOU LIKE? Do some research. I also race my cars and Monster Trucks so I don't keep them sealed, unless it's an error, or a special special car. Good Luck, but beware, SCALPERS have ruined the hobby. When someone INSIDE a store tries to sell you a Hot Wheel he hasn't bought himself for $20.00 you'll see what I mean.

Matchbox detail has always been better. Although lately some "plastic" cheap bumpers have made some classics look lame, but Matchbox is the better of the two.

I do hate how tacky the grey plastic looks on mainline MBX models when they should look more shiny. Not even chrome, just something that looks like a bumper. I don't even sperg about it not being a metal base unlike some manlets. It's just the ugly shade of grey and the fact that it detracts from an almost 8/10 job on what's basically a 1 dollar toy car that's outdoing an HW in detail.

I hit a dump bin that I was late to. There should have been 3 or 4 supers, but I only found this one at the very bottom. I have a feeling the scalpers took the good ones and left this "trash" for someone to have. Luckily I like errors.

There are two purple ones. The one in the first pic is an original HW casting called "Bizarro", the second, darker one is "Cadzzilla", based on a real life custom for Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top.

Johnny Lightning's old holiday cars had similar paint. Hot Wheels Classics series has similar paint to the sth and id series. They're old so you'll need to check ebay/flea markets/etc.

I have a couple TW models. Diecast body plastic base. Overall detail level is good, quality control on their early stuff can be hit or miss but so far I haven't had any issues with them.

tore open a Double Vision today. Had no idea the canopy opens and closes on its own when you tilt the car at a 45 degree angle. I had the original when I was a kid, but I don't remember it doing this. Honestly I think my old one was probably broken, even if it did.

Finally after 7 months my local store got hot wheels, it was a c case and grabbed pic rel (completing the card set with my 2nd th ever) and the vettes 5pack.
No delta and was a bit disapponted to see 8ball rodger is just a sticker on the base.
Anyway for the first time in my life i've seen matchboxes (stocked with hws) and there were 2 of those "premiums" (ones with the card box and rubber wheels): bimmer 2002 and a land rover pick up. Really liked how the 2002 looked and its details, so now i know how those premium you talk about are.
Sorry for the blogpost but it was an interesting find

Depends who you ask, I'd say no it's usually worth nothing different to the original car, maybe a cent or 2 higher but that's it.

Mattel in a nutshell, make something really good then abandon it not expecting anyone to care when more than likely there is a market for that casting or series.
Only this past 2 years have they been slowly starting to be more like their 2000's selves and that's still a bit of a stretch in the opinions of everyone but me in this thread. There might be a few more cars like it coming back if something like Nashole or 2JetZ is anything to go by.

Usually keep mine in package because they are broken cars most of the time, so then they'd just be a loose broken car, so I like to imagine being in package adds to the charm, not to mention i can take a loose car and make it a fake error pretty easy, so it's kind of a sign that yes, it was like this when i got it, rather than faking it.

It's a fun, but personal treasure hunt, for myself by myself. In fact the best thing about them is that they have not that much resale value so you don't have to be as anal about it like with super treasure hunts that you can sell off if needed

Misprints are only valuable ones. For example Ford logo printed backwards is an interesting error. Or hood print misplaced so it lands on car's roof. Double racing numbers printed one over another. These are rare and unique finds. They are serious errors and even if you open case they will remain proven factory errors.

Missing printing, missing parts, broken parts, etc.. can be fabricated at home. As one anon posted, there is even a way to open packing without damaging it and then re-seal it.

Good luck with fabricating this.

I had the inkling I was touching upon a sore subject for this fandom. Every general on toy has a few. Personally I don't see the appeal in errors unless it's really major or results in something awesome, but the diecast pegs at my local stores are always completely fucking empty, so it's pointless for me either way.

Meantime, I just found out Hot Wheels did one of Syd Meads designs during my dark ages, shame it was just a stand-alone and not part of a series, but oh well. "Cyberpunk Cadillac police cruiser" appeals to me on just about every level.

Yeah, i would have liked to see some more usage of it, HW is certainly lacking on limos. Wish they had used some different wheels on it; these don't entirely fit the future-vibe. I might try to swap them, but they seem pretty small, not sure what else would be a good-looking fit in the right size.

I have the Cadillac DeVille Matchbox had done in "premium" line. A couple years back. Rubber tires, nice paint and details. As well as the mainline ones. Matchbox has been stellar with the older Cadillacs and other GM cars. I really want the Chevy Nova but I can't find it. The cases here barely make it to the shelves.

With the technology today, the paint or deco removers, errors are fast becoming a new form of counterfeit items. By this I mean there are idiots on YouTube who show how to fabricate errors, and how to open blisters with little to no visible wear on the package. I wanna know, is there a quality difference between the Tomica releases of different countries? As in, domestic Japan releases vs Singapore vs China vs Indonesia (as a lot of Shopee sellers ship from Indonesia and they have their own safety tag on them)? Be it paint quality, QC, materials used. Yeah, I'm a total Caddyfag, my grandpa had a ton of them when I was growing up, but pic related was the first I ever rode in. Been praying for a diecast version for years. I'd like to see a premium brand like AutoWorld or Greenlight tackle it, but I'm sure Matchbox would do a stellar job, too.

Haven't thought about it in a while and now the memories are flooding back; I can practically smell the methanol, burned rubber, and overpriced fried foods. Good times.

I guess, me just getting into Hot Wheels after mostly collecting other toys, I find it hard to be annoyed or disgusted by anything so small and cheap. Usually my disgust with a toy is based on its shittiness-to-cost ratio, but HW are dirt cheap and generally all do what they're designed to do, and sometimes even a good deco can warm me up to a casting I otherwise dislike, so I guess I'm just easy to please.

Speed Trap has an assault rifle and a sniper rifle in the trunk. I can't tell what's beneath them because of the scultping in the rear window, but I assume it's some kind of riot gear.

It depends on which one. In my experience, most of these polished Red Line Club releases range between 15-ish to 30-ish bucks on the aftermarket, depending on how popular they are with the boomers. Steam Punk Truck was 60, but my buyer's remorse faded immediately once I got it in hand.

But actually now that I think about it, by the time I was a teen I had already forgotten both and moved on to Johnny Lightning which was aimed more at collectors anyway. Nowadays I've just learned to love any casting, as long as it's awesome.

Got another pair of new things in the mail today. Red Baron is a classic I never had, which is weird considering how much I loved the song. And the pizza. Sting Rod is to round out my Police Squad. It doesn't come across in pictures, but even the unpainted metal is hit with a gloss coat, so it gives it a really unique look in person. I love that it has a tank hatch.

Left is "Rocket Oil", right is "Bizarro", but by the same Hot Wheels designer. I bought them separetely, but their first release was as a boxed set.

Man I know Maisto has bad quality for their fresh metal series, but I still like collecting them. I'm a Matchbox guy, but it's cool seeing Maisto go for castings other brands don't, like the Audi A6 and the Subaru BRZ. I just wish they sold Fresh Metal in 1 packs because usually due to how Maistos have a lot of cheap fantasy cars I don't like in their 5 packs at Walmart, and the fact that the variety in Fresh Metal sucks now, it's hard getting a pack that has the castings I am interested in.

Look at the comparison for 2021's Fresh Metal and what they had when I was collecting in 2011. I don't have my old cars anymore so it's going to be hard recollecting Maisto especially. Power Racers also makes me jealous considering there's so many great casting choices no brand makes they only made for those. 2011's catalog has some great ones, same with 2021.

It's such a shame they didn't die cast the entire body on the Custom Fleetwood. Those plastic fenders stand out like a sore thumb.
