I think the large raised baseplates were easier to reuse and remake into something else. Less so with these smaller ones.

that plate is basically useless, only the pin/2x2 plate hybrids can fit securely

The thing is that Lego used to outsource the production of the raised plates to a different company, now that's no longer doable or desirable, these plates could be a fine compromise as they may be easily produced in-house since they are smaller and use regular plastic

Check if the other side isn't also upside down so maybe you got box-doors wrong, re-attach them correctly. I never liked this helicopter design - rotor is way too small for the size of this aircraft.

The TP-TR (Troop Placement, Terrific Range) was a troop transport walker built by the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars. The TP-TR was built as cheaply as possible, and had an unconventional deployment system. The back of the walker had a bed which carried soldiers, which would be tipped over to deploy the soldiers onto the battlefield.

The vehicle wasn't used for long. According to records, it was only fielded at the Battle of Baseplate Flats in 69 BBY.

You can fix that easily. A pair of sharp anatomical tweezers is of good use. Just take the sticker off by grabbing one point and slowly peeling it off with the tweezers. Reapply afterwards. Usually works with no problems at all, Lego stickers in my experience will stick right back.

This type of set is something that Lego wouldn't make now. The randomized coloring, big baseplates, simplistic build style. Something about it makes it a better building toy than newer, nicer looking, more detailed models. It just seems so forgiving to be ripped apart, added to or changed into something entirely new.

Usually when you see a set like this in a store, its because of a minor storage mishap. Like the box fell behind a shelf in the back room. Somewhere that gets lost in time. Then one day they decided they needed a new shelf or they wanted to reorganize and they find this.

This use to happen a lot back in the early 2000s in the zellers I use to go to. There would be sets from like 1995 that would go out 5+ years later. Ended up with some vintage aquazone and stuff despite it being a bit before my time from it.

I owned this as a kid. It's probably the best RC system lego has made, good controller, and the 2x motors are a beast, they are quite expensive on BL ($65 ea).

Jang has a review of either this one or the 8376 that uses the same RC setup. For that price you'd get way better RC non-lego, but there's a reason these are pricey second hand.

Where I grew up there was a small family owned general store that always had sets 5-10 years older than when they came out in the 90's, as things would get stuck in the basement.

I wound up getting things like blacktron 2 and exploriens for xmas, years after they were released.

One day a "collector" made their way to the basement and wiped them out, now the store just has lots of lego movie 2 and batmanshit noone wants.

Pic related, this was on the top shelf for years and I regret never picking it up.

The only real trick here is that you want to have as few carts as possible because you are paying for shipping. You will figure out pretty quick that sometimes you will save money if you buy a more expensive piece at a store you already had a cart for than starting a new cart.

Yeah.. I actually went back after college to check them out and maybe get some retro stuff, but it just wasn't the same. They used to let you peek in the basement and 12 y.o me would get to pluck out a decade old set for xmas. I remember getting a sealed unitron star hawk II for example.

The oldest stuff they had last month I checked was the big nexo knight castle seen in the last thread, and tons of chima, all MSRP. I snagged a sealed galidor set and clearance clickits for the meme. Left the jack stone alone.

The only thing that gives me that treasure hunt find feeling is snagging promising ebay lots, but even that is a struggle nowadays.

I've bought quite a few from different places, and the only ones that I can say truly exceed Lego's quality is Citizenbrick. They do some really neat injection molded parts made of of actual Lego pieces and pad-print their pieces just like Lego does. The result is something that looks exactly like a Lego figure, except with better print quality and a bit more detail in small batches. Pic related is one of my favorite figures they're made.

Minifigco does some neat figures but their customer service is abysmal and they take 2 months to ship anything out. Some of their pieces are a mix of pad printing and a cheaper method of UV printing. UV printing doesn't look nearly as crisp and is texturized. Some people like that, I'm on the fence about it. You can do some neat stuff with UV printing like building up 3D looking details on a figure and color shifting which helps for figures where a designer is going for realism. Brickmania does a lot of that with their figures.

Those are the 3 main ones I've bought figures from although Eclipsegrafx, Ktown Bricks, Firestar and Christo all do neat things as well.

Waterslide decals and stickers can be a way of cheaply doing figures that look decent in the short-term.

Modeling clay, paints, markers, etc are Chris Chan tier and never look clean. They are complete heresy.

the original design is by hansenbricks and these instructions were free, I did modify them a touch as the original is designed to be a static model

One of my dream liscened sets has to be a modular build of Shrek's House.
Shrek would be kickass as a Lego Minifigure.

But it went fantasy era, kingdoms then into LOTR for castle lines, possibly including HP along the way if you dont mind your castles in tan. Regardless of what some may say, I see nexo as a pseudo 40K sc-ifi theme not castle and the concept art confirms this. The bad guys from the 1st & 3rd waves are great but fuck tlg for teasing those plant and sea monsters in the book then doing boring stone creatures instead.

Its a very nice set and shouldn't be difficult to moc a different animal statue for the plinth for upcoming years (tiger next iirrc,maybe pick up the current bam exclusive tiger costume minifig while you can) I think tlg will probably keep making sets for chinese new year though.

Same reason one enjoys any licenseshit. You like the property and you like the Lego aesthetic, so why not put the two together? It's not that hard to figure (hah) out. Also, oftentimes, CMF figures have some nice arm and leg prints, compared to regular sets. Could have done without the WhatIf stuff in that run, but hey, no need to get every figure. Same as I don't need more costume animal furshit figures, so I leave them out.

A Slave I (not anymore?) sounds nice, but a bit expensive.. seems it still comes with a Boba though. I've yet to watch the show, not quite sure when I'd get around to it. It's mostly been CMFs and the odd cheap Lego set since I opted for focusing on Transformers over Lego years ago. I mostly like neat minifigures, less so with building sets or making my own, sadly. A custom Punisher minifig was a goal for some years now, but I never got around to it.

There's this one from sports and Gravity Games, reminds me of a spunky tomboy, like Tomo from Azumanga Daioh
Also maybe the dudes from Knight's Kingdom I and II, especially if you like beards. The first may be more up your speed. The ones in II have pupil shine and more modern printing techniques, but retain classic Lego simplicity and cuteness. Even Vladek looks like a smiley trying adorably hard to look evil,

Hello! As a collector of brickheadz, I recommend you don't. I have all the regular release ones and several limited release figures. Never start. It will sit on a shelf and collect dust for you. You'll regret it and think the only way to feel whole again is to collect more. Lego never stops. Eventually you will have boxes of them hidden in closets because you can't display all of them because they have over 150 of these boring builds with minimal MOC parts. You can expect a long and sad life of looking into his derpy, sad, and hopeless eyes as you wish I had been able to talk you out of getting it.
