Hey anons, I am trying to build a house for my Forestmen and I have torn down and rebuilt the first floor 3 times now and haven't started work on the second floor yet or even added any inside details. I am still not 100% happy with this and seeking some advice. This whole build started after I built this brick built door that you helped me with months ago. I wanted to build something around the door. Should I move each door towards one side and add a window? What else can I do to make this feel more complete? I am already ordering some brown hinge plates for the door to replace these gray brick hinges on here now. Pic 1/2.

I think it would add a lot to have some depth to the build. Added hinged shutters over the windows, recessing or portruding the doors, adding a vine / chimney stack would add a lot.

Making the 2nd floor overhang 1 stud over the 1st and doing a 1x1 pillar on the corners would make it look more 3D as well.

Have I shared this yet? I just got the last order I need to make this in real klocki. I'm hoping to add a little more detail once I have the physical building in-front of me. It started as a book shop but I think it will be a nice residential building for my town.

That blacksmith set is a big inspiration for my Forestmen MOC and I already did plan to have the second floor extend out over the first and I am going to attempt to add a balcony and maybe a third floor watchtower. Thank you.

Not really that soulful, but Mars Mission had something odd and nostalgic from how it mixed old and then-new elements like round cockpits and Bionicle pieces. That includes the minifigs despite being al the same with heads coming gfrom a wide variety of themes

It depends on how you define playability. The DS playset is a selection of small DS-related vignette, which you can pose figures in and play around with (to varying degrees), arranged in a novel and reasonably space-efficient shape. In that regard, it certainly provides you a lot of ways to play with it. On the other hand, if you prefer to drive or swoosh around vehicles, and that's your metric of playability, then it's not going to give you much of that. These were sold to me as a lot of Alpha Team, and sure enough it's some parts for Alpha Team. Gave them a quick wash and now I'm waiting for them to dry before rebuidling. Unfortunately, based on the instructions I got too, I can't fully build anything. I'll have to check Bricklink if it's even worth it to buy loose parts, and if it's going to be around the same as to just buy the whole thing, might as well dump them to parts bin. But then again, it was only 16€ with shipping so I'm not that mad. And it's also raining outside so I can't even take proper photo even if I wanted to.

I have no idea what would ever compel someone to do it. Some of them have plastic tubing running inside their heads between ears as well. A couple of the torsos pieces had their necks cut shorter to leave room for the tube when the head was placed on. It is bizarre.

Looks like your lights are reflecting off other surfaces in the room. Are any of the bulbs close to a wall?

I sometimes have to reposition lights because a bulb is too close to a reflective surface and creates a bounce spotlight. Be sure to cover any windows so no light gets through. Curtains and shades usually aren't enough.

Too shallow, the bad guys throne acn barely fit in it, should have got rid of the weird tan bit and made it deeper. I did buy the most of HS location sets but ended up just getting the big bad and a couple of his minions (and they are nice figs) from bandp and sticking them in my old 8780 citadel.

I have to say RoboForce is what surprised me the most. I can't speak for the entire theme but the one set I have here is really cool. I don't get why it didn't get more traction. Entire theme had only 4 sets.
Hopefully I can get all of them. The amount of printing and overall color scheme of these guys just was top notch quality.

I built the dragon dance thing for the spring lantern festival set and parted out the rest
Only interesting thing about the minions themselves is that their arms use technic pins so I feel like theres a lot of potential for custom characters utilizing them

My closest Walmart reduced the price of the vidiyo stuff. They NEVER put Legos on clearance. I didn't buy anything but I'll keep checking to see if they drop the price again.

Nice to see all the boxes I opened three months ago are still right where I left them.

They have gone down to £5 in some places and are still not selling here. Also I went to the lego store this morning and noticed that whilst it was full of customers, no-one was going near the vidyo stuff even though there was a giant interactive statue of the llama one. Goo Gone makes shit all oily though, which irritates me. If you want a less messy solution, try alcohol wipes, or just plain rubbing alcohol. It takes a lil bit of elbow grease, but I've found that it's quite good at removing sticky residue.

This made me realize how stupid lego is for not making more specialized pieces for minecraft to get the prices/plastic down. They use telescope pieces for torches for some reason, and lego treasure chests, but have to brick build doors for accuracy?

I have a tiny flashlight for it because its easier that way. But there are actual tiny lighting systems you can buy specifically intended for lego scale models. You should look into those if you want to have a more permanent set up.

I prefer yellows. But unlike most, I don't mind sometimes mixing them with flesh coloured minifigs. Like I don't mind having yellow and brown figs together, I think that works fine, like the Simpsons. I also don't mind medium flesh together with yellow. But as far as yellows and light flesh, I try to keep them apart, unless there's some sort of explanation I can come up with. Like the fleshie is an albino/really pale person. Or they're an alien. Or they're a cyborg/robot with artificial skin. I also don't mind using torsos that have a little bit of flesh in their print on yellow figs, but only as long as it's not too much.

I just don't think that "realistic" skin tones work with Lego minifigs, because they're already weirdly/unnaturally proportioned.
Also it raises some minor issues for me in regards to making a sigfig version of me. I'm "mixed race", my mum's white, but my dad was Maori. While I'm no where near as dark skinned as my dad was, my skin is dark enough that Lego's "light flesh" is too light, but it's light enough that their "medium flesh" (or whatever they call the next one up) is too dark. So yellow works, because it can cover the entire spectrum of "light skin" and I can use it on my sigfig/s without worrying about it being too light or too dark.

Im very much a toys are meant to be opened, played with and loved kind of person, and it's not like the set was expensive (like 10 squids, dirt cheap honestly) but it feels so unceremonious for some reason to just go for it, especially since it was from a theme I enjoyed all those years ago.

Think about it, how would you integrate that in your own fantasy setting? All the other buildings would have to be similarly ridiculously-sized and the fortresses and castles, even more so. It should have been a guild hall or outpost or something.

I loved yellow when it was the only choice. Lego fucked up introducing skin tones, making skin color on torsos and other figs suddenly only fit for same toned fig BUT the fleshies come closer to reality so I totally prefer them now. I guess the threshold between original Lego and Licensed stuff makes it ok.

The insect alien builds were universally shit. idk how they managed but every single one was terrible, even if they were the focal point of the set. It didn't make any sense.

Beyond that they were really cool, but the red team didn't have any ships or mechs as I recall which was strange.

I parted out two of these, it has really good parts, but also its usually on sale at amazon for 20% off, get it there.

It has a normal blue bird, tree leafs / cylinders, the anime animals are meh, but there's also that really cool "cloud" energy piece on the chimney.

Unrelated, here's a 20 dollar mini haul, exactly how the figs were received. I enjoyed seeing the whack ass modified ear figs earlier.

They were the last theme of the "classic" space era. They had a lot of cool concepts, such as the giant saucer set which has a smaller modular saucer pop off the top, but the giant parts and small piece counts mark the end of the golden age.

The giant panel saucer pieces were reused in the first ever millennium falcon, which was received rather poorly.

The early 2000's was where LEGO went almost bankrupt, and hence started leaning into licensed themes alsongside bionicle which was an unexpected fantastical success.

The town / city sets from this era show the oversimplification that almost drove LEGO to self induced suicide.

It's a tie between Lord Vampyre's Castle and the movie version of Destiny's Bounty. One is a cool Gothic style castle with both traps and livable rooms for its vampire keepers, and the other is a supremely detailed ship.

It's ok to have opinions, but sometimes they are objectively wrong.

Anyway, if you're into economics, the prices don't lie. The old ones have at least doubled in price the last decade, though that is mostly true of all vintage LEGO.

on a somewhat related note, why the fuck do they do this with the tires? They are backwards/inside out but every kit I've seen the tire, it's always like this even on official builds. Why? Why is the hollow internal part facing outwards? You would think one would want that internal mechanisms to be hidden but they go to great lengths not only to show it but create intricate filler parts for the inside of the tire.

It's just weird and completely unnecessary and triggers my autism.
