I love super7 but I wouldn't rely on them on making anything that's supposed to resemble realistic textures and shading. They shine best when they're doing cartoony or stylized stuff so I don't have much confidence in them making live action Godzilla stuff, but also at the same times theyre the only company that's going to give us articulated 6-7" character no one else will touch, like Jet Jaguar, Megalon, Varan, Sana, Gaira, Hedorah etc etc

Mezco will make very suit and movie-accurate figures with a wide range of articulation, like their more limited articulated DAM and Mothra sets line or their much more articulated (but still not as articulated as a 6-inch NECA and nowhere near as articulated as an SHMA) giant Heisei Godzilla.

Super7 will make ugly on purpose nostalgiabait like they always do and GenXers will defend it because it looks like the shitty toys they had when they were a kid.

Mondo will make Marmit and WMS-F style Sofubi vinyls in hyper-limited quantities and sell them at extreme markups because artificial scarcity is their business model. Oh, and they won't put basic anti-bot measurements on their website so instead of paying $95 for that overpriced pearlescent pink Godzilla, you will have to pay $500 for it on eBay. because scalper bought the entire stock with bots half a second after they became available

Why is everyone saying Super7 is going to just do nostalgia callbacks for their Ultimate line? They kept saying they're going to be "the Monsterarts of the west" and they know almost every collector is looking at them to provide things like a posable Anguirus, a Mothra design that isn't trash, Titanosaurus, etc

Hello,

I found this place googling about toys. I have a godzilla figure but the leg is broken. I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to superglue the plastic bits together and then use E6000 to attach the leg back to the body. It's not articulated so it just needs to be firm. Or do you think I should sell it as is with the leg loose? What do you think is most valuable?

If it's not articulated you can just fix the leg back into the body and sell it as is, maybe make a note that you had it repaired. Any collector would want a loose one to display in their collection in a standing position anyway.

He probably modeled it after 98 but calling it Zilla, either out of legal reasons or just out of confusion. Zilla doesn’t have the dewlap 98 has.

Yeah the comic Zilla is based off the 98 design though. It’s all a very fucky grey area. If you want to make a Godzilla 98 figure, you need to get rights from both Toho and Tristar, but if you make a Zilla figure, you only need Toho.

If it's based on the monster in Final Wars or the IDW comics, it's Zilla.

From constantly getting in the top 5 of their polls for years I am expecting them to cave and make Zilla/G98, and continue to avoid Showa so they'll probably make Godzilla 2000 (movie version) and Jet Jaguar SP. Or maybe they'll make Godzilla Aquatilis, Amphibia, and Terrestris

Got my GVK Godzilla in today. It looks like the box was crushed. Godzilla is okay, but this box is not something I can display on the shelf like I had wanted to. Seeing a bunch of people online who got their figures in today getting the same treatment.

he's inaccurate to the movie design, which is superior

the concept design is still cool, I just hate how Sakai has been obsessed with using it for every Godzilla 2000 figure he's the sculptor for(well, besides like one or two exceptions). Hell, I'd even be fine if he used the sculpt from one of those exceptions because it was slightly tweaked from the movie design

Sculptors don't decide what they sculpt, they get hired to sculpt whatever the client wants. The concept design gets a lot of merch simply because it's very popular. The SHMA of it was like the most requested figure for the line on Japanese social media.

If I were to guess, the infamous early releases in their classic collection were whipped up on the quick while they were working on new figures. Also unrelated but the rodan shown on the back and some of the stock photos has wing hinges and a mouth seam that the boxed example doesn’t have so it might be an earlier version. Quality withstanding, I’d be lying if I said seeing a domestically released lineup with jet, gorosaurus, and showa rodan wasn’t novel.

Why did they give him a thumb? KOTM Ghidorah didn't have thumb claws. Why would they resculpt his wings and but not make any of the improvements they did with Rathalos? I don't understand. Why give him new wings, but not fix the actual problem of him being too top-heavy? He's literally less movie accurate than than the original.

If you look at any review for the original release, take Jobby's for example, you will see the paint is distractingly inconsistent. It doesn't line up across different parts of the figure, huge portions are totally unpainted. It's basically a trainwreck. I'd pay 25 bucks (barring for resale) at most for the figure , its that ruined by paint.

X-Plus is unironically the only line that's actually worth the money, but it's too expensive for most people. SHMA would be worth it if their actual products looked like their promo pics, but that is almost never the case. They have the most deceptive marketing out of any of the brands you mentioned.

- that crazy lady revealing her evil plan in front of her daughter about wanting the monsters to destroy civilization

I ain't saying that SP didn't have problems (it's got inconsistent characterization between its two leads with them swapping personality traits seemingly at random, it goes overboard on the exposition, Godzilla's evolutions seem very random and based on rule of cool, and most the characters are hard carried by their designs), but I still ended up enjoying it.

I hate to defend KotM because I didn't like it. That said, if absurdism is the complaint, then that is every kaiju movie ever made. Even the original movies had some levels of absurdness. King Kong, a giant monkey that they bring back to New York? Godzilla, a giant radioactive monster on a rampage?
Now if you want to say movie plots were inconsistent, messy, poorly paced, weird character decisions, etc. then I think thats is a totally fair complaint.
Before I get attacked: I like nearly every Showa and Millenium movie, along with Shin and SP. I have mixed feelings on all the Legendary movies, yet I think GvK was one of the best of them. I haven't watched a single Heisei movie yet.

Putting humans who behave appropriately into absurdist situations such as a giant monster attack don't really give my brain any issues. Where I get issues is when you put humans who behave absurdly into any situation. So more on the level of as you mentioned weird character decisions. I have zero issue with suspending disbelief for giant monsters appearing and wrecking stuff. But I kind of expect the human characters to still act in a manner that is understandable for their situation.

If its the 91 version, it might be a factory reject. KG 91 had had a ton of factory rejects on the market that people bought for cheap.

This without going into other movies like 2000 with the UFO, GMK with the spirits of WW2 dead reviving Godzilla, all the psychic shenanigans of the Heisei era, the cartoonish stuff of the Showa or final wars with aliens super soldiers special genes and other stuff.

Also last time someone tried to be realistic with Godzilla was in 98 and people still cry nowadays about it.

I'm disappointed in the Tamashii Act 5 stand. The stand itself seems to be strong enough to hold up Kong's weight, but the claw is too small to properly grip him around the waist. I don't feel confident in it's ability to hold Kong to leave him posed in it, which sucks because I wanted to have him leaping at Mechagodzilla in my Monsterverse display.

I think the new one looks like shit too honestly, unless it's one of those cases where the actual final product looks better than the promo images. I won't say that my regular version looks any better though.

The new one actually has color variation on its chest an necks unlike the original, which was solid mustard brown outside of the dark brown highlights on the abdomen and wings. That alone makes it better than the old version.

I completely disagree. Why are we seeing silver used on a King Ghidorah? I don't think that looks good either, and it doesn't make sense.
I'd rather see a flatter gold (think the standard Heisei KG) used with darker shades of paint, not an overly bright gold with silver as highlights.

I've got it. One thing to note is the figure is glossy. The details are nice and it looks great, but just be aware its all glossy. I kind of wish I knew that before ordering it, but still happy to own it. I wish there was a version of it that was matte with only the exposed beam areas being glossy, but that would be tough t do. Also the tail is really long like the other Shin Godzilla figures.

Is NECA's 1962 Goji any good? I want to pair it with their Kong for my classic monster shelf.
I know Kong is slightly bigger than him but I've seen some pictures where, when hunched over, he fits well next to Godzilla.
Plus they'll get hanging out with Universal monsters so accurate scale isn't a huge factor anyway.
