>>9262585I still remember having one hell of a time getting that damn clamshell packaging open as a kid. Scissors did NOT want to work on that impenetrable plastic casing.
As for the figures themselves, I only had three, the two spawns and Violator. I loved the two spawns, but always wished Violator had joints instead of bendy limbs.
>>9263010Had it either been the Original design with the extra weapons, or a significantly different color scheme, I would have eagerly bought the Gamestop set. As is, I'm currently on the fence, but I just have less nostalgia for the Eldar head they went with and I'm having trouble justifying to myself spending $40 just to get accessories the basic release should have been packed with from the start.
>>9263046I loved the Spawn figures as a kid, but I wouldn't say nothing on the shelves back then could compare to the first wave figures. Toybiz's multiple Marvel lines were all just as detailed and fun, with generally better play gimmicks. Kenner kicked off the Aliens v Predator line with that awesome 2 pack as well as launching that crazy Legends of Batman line. Hell, '94 was a fantastic year for toys as I'm sure there was a lot more going on I'm glossing over. I'm just trying to think of other major 5-7 poa action toylines from the time.
It would take Mcfarlance a few years to really start pumping out the really crazy stuff, but those first few waves played it kind of straight. They certainly weren't bad, they were just as good as the best stuff coming out at the time. Which for a start up toy company is an amazing success.
