Inform me, /toy/, of your knowledge of the toy mysteries. I've never bought something quite so unusual.
How possible is it to buy a 21 year old figure that seems sealed in a blister pack even when inspecting it as close as possible, is not really that expensive a figure (10 bucks+shipping), and yet when opening it find that there are a few curiosities:
#1. A dirtlike substance on the large boots of the figure and nowhere else, does not appear to be dust. Comes off in soapy water easily.
#2. A series of strands of what looks like webbing from a spider but is straight rather than in a web formation, between two close surfaces near the feet (no other evidence of anything like this anywhere else). Comes off in soapy water easily.
#3. A strange hard, yellow patch on the figure's helmet which can be scraped off with great difficulty. I'd believe it had been on there since 2000 if someone told me so.
I have heard rumors blister resealing is a thing, but is this explainable through strange dirt accumulation methods (breakdown of things within the blister over time), QC issues, or factory mishaps instead?
Given that the figure was not sold for much I find it difficult to believe someone would go to the trouble of resealing the blister but not take 5 minutes to clean off #1 and #2, and #3 probably could've easily been written off as dried glue from the factory and be mostly unsuspicious.
Another oddity is other than these, the figure was pretty much what you'd expect for NIB--no dust, no stickiness associated with plasticizer breakdown. The tape taping down 2 pieces of the fig didn't really stick too well either but I assume after 21 years tape will lose its stick.
