Unfortunately it is a newer Lego set so there is little resell value, and no way to tell which one is "better" hahahah

Keep one boxed? If they have sentimental value why not keep both. You mentioned it's 'small', so it shouldn't take up much room either.

Your complaining about getting what you asked for and more specifically x2 of the same lego set? This seems like such a non issue. One boxed one opened, or open both better yet and make MOCs.

im surprised youre overthinking the accidental gifting 2 of the same lego sets. as if it were the same as getting 2 of a same action figure. It's like the others stated, build one as it is then build something else with the other. But why stop there if it's Lego, when you can build whatever you feel like? You don't even have to build what's on the box, maybe you can use the parts to freshen up a previous build, to build something that's from another set, or even something fanmade, using online instructions if you have the parts. You can even save them for future use.

Here's what you do if you don't care too much about opening both:

-Pick baggies from both sets
-Build whatever it is you got
-Sell the remaining bags for the second complete set

Now you have parts from both sets, so you still got a gift from both of them.
