Finished up on Richetta for the night. She is reeeeeally nice, really nice. The head general sculpt is great, her head is absolutely perfect, most of her joints feel great.
Bandais molding issues tear her up bad though. Lots of complex mold lines (like on the neck joint that is causing the breaks) weird part edges that instead of being round have a strange strip of flat space that is particularly noticeable on the thighs, and the damn ankles are ridiculously bad. The ankles aren't unusable, they just use a ring that is too thin, and a peg that isn't toleranced right. One side was perfect, one locked up as soon as it went in, despite going into place unassumingly easy.

I've known how Koto distribution works for a while now so I can circumvent limitations. Retailers are retailers regardless of continent and will be more than happy to sell you anything. Just give them a chace... you will be surprised at what you can accomplish by simply getting in touch...

>>9278803 I have no idea why Bandai designs their kits like this. It's just like those HGs with the fused waist armor flaps that are intentionally designed to be cut apart, or the MG hands with fingers molded together. It's cool that the improved posability is included, but I wonder why they require you to mod it in the first place.

Quoted By:
>>9278943 It's likely for less experienced modelers, so they have an easy alternative to fiddling with tons of tiny pieces or assemblies that can easily fall apart before snapping them in (and experienced ones can just cut them apart).
The waist situation though, I don't get. That seems like more of a design issue.

>>9278971 What an odd oversight. I regard ab crunch as one of the most important joints on a toy for expressive posing. Bending backwards is rarely useful, except in like ballet poses, or flight poses. Big misstep on Bandai's part.

>>9279024 What pisses me off is that the ab crunch problem was solved a long time ago, by other lines. Oh, you thought the RX-78's chest design inherently meant shit/no ab crunch? SCM EX cracked that nut over a decade ago, to great effect. Why didn't we see similar shit in Gunpla for so long? Because Bandai's different divisions don't fucking talk to each other. You've got several separate groups of people all trying to reinvent the wheel in various ways, and none of them are getting as far as they could be if they just all worked together. Shit is fucking criminally stupid.

I don't know what type of dealer you have but that's not how Authorized Koto distribution works my Brother... each authorized retailer is alloted a "slot" by the local distributor. It's up to the authorized retailers how to use up those slots either by putting those in pre-orders and/or use these to get products for in-store retail as well as decide if they're going to limit it to a single product per customer or in my case, I reserve slots in advance (by paying in full advance) to my usual retailers...

>>9279121 So i look it uop and these are the authorized Koto distributors in the US ... all of which are online. with the exception being a handful of stores, most of which are on the east coast. all of them thousands of miles away from most of us.
the only exception being Barnes and noble. A big box store.
So your brilliant solution is to go to barnes and noble and speak to the manager to get him to order model kits?
just because you are lucky enough to be near a place that sells these kits locally doesn't mean the rest of us aren't forced to fight it out online

Just because they are "ONLINE" or "THOUSANDS" of "Kilometers" away doesn't mean you just stay in line and give up... that mentality will get you nowhere in life. They are "retailers" with individual "QUOTAS" to achieve... just call and make an offer, if one refuse, try next one... and the next one... eventually you will get a bite and start from there and work a relationship with your now favorite retailer. I like the new body a lot more, the double jointed knees are even prettier than before and the original ones were already prefect, the neck doesn't look like shit anymore, the ankle pivot move in straight angle instead like ML trash and most importantly they have better functioning butterfly joints and won't have those stupid shoulders on the back that keeps falling. But damn I wish these were action figures instead of chinky model kits!
The new moveable skirt and torso look like trash, should stick to soft plastic. However the new unjointed lower torso looks terrific.

But then again, they are model kits. Your user experience is entirely dependent on your skill and intrest in the kit in question.

Here is the speed armor, I have super mixed opinions on it. The feet are big and doofy, the bayformer claws look from dumb or even ugly, and the shoulder armor collides with her head constantly. Compare that with how cool the leg armor looks... I can almost justify the purchase by that for retail price, but not more. The ears in general don't sit right on her head to begin with, but that can slide since it has to fit the other heads. The tail is shit. If it had more typical claws, more appropriately sized feet, and maybe a flexible tail this would be a lot beter.

>>9283580 The hair and ears are from one of the Muscuto sets (I forget which, but I'm pretty sure there's a recast of it). The faceplate is custom, or at least the eyes are. The clothes I have no idea about- probably some 1/12th Azone clothes or random ones off of BOOTH. The body appears to just be one of the standard naked bodies you can make with the various Muscuto body option sets out there. So overall nothing too crazy. The only thing that's hard to do here is the faceplate since you've gotta do that yourself. All the other parts can be bought relatively easily.

>>9288469 It's fine, everybody starts somewhere. Purchase a basic tamiya file set, it includes a flat, half round, and round file. Use the round file to make it so the joints slip on without difficulty. If it is tough to get a joint into place, use the file.
Remember to test the joint to see if you like the tightness afterwards.
Sometimes molding defects can cause problems on ball joints, the best example ever is the newly released Richetta's neck joint, a little lip of plastic running around the ball will make her head shear the joint right in half. I have a course sanding sponge that fixes ball joints pretty quickly.
