I really do like the headsculpt, but the cloth cape looks really cheap. I would have preferred a bendy wire, or at least a swappable sculpted cape in a more neutral pose.

The toy itself looks like garbo, in my opinion. The torso cut looks bizarre, the elbow joints are goofy, and the softgoods cape looks like the worst of softgoods.

This is unfortunate. Basically its a statue if you want it to look good. I liked the idea behind the arm swap to give us a hybrid statue/figure. But the "figure" mode looks bad.

Though to be fair, I assume most people were going to pose it like the pic anyway. I will prob wait for reviews on this one. It may be a good centerpiece for my comics batman shelf. Especially if I put my comic behind it.

This was the one figure I was excited to see from Mcfarlane since they got the license and it's pretty shitty. What a shame. Those elbow joints are a joke and the way the cowl flows into the cloth is archaic looking.

Ultimately, when you put out really shitty product that collectors wont buy, the license holders will go elsewhere. And if someone else can come in and offer better product for the same price? It tends to work out much better.

Todd's may not be perfect, but they're way better than Mattel, especially towards the end of their line.

That's not what the licensers care about. They care about who has the most reach, and Mattel personally kept the toddler toy license for DC, because those sell better than movie shit toys based on all awful DC movies that Todd will be obligated to make like those Wonder Woman figures.

The Mattel one looks like the average Marvel Legend that people gobble up. McFarlane's looks good but I'm sure it has problems posing due to all that ratchetshit in the legs. That said I've heard ratchets are actually good for the longevity of figures (less likely to ever get loose), so it may have an advantage over Mattel's smoother joints there.

My mistake, I meant McFarlane 7 inch scale. My point was that I already have 1/12 inch figures of those three so I'm committed to stay in that scale, but if they made 7'' scale of those three and more I'd consider going all in on McFarlane since their Nightwing and Red Hood are really cool. But I doubt we'll get a new Cass or Steph from them. Plus I prefer the pre-new 52 era anyway and that's even less likely.

Mattel was under performing for the last decade, so the license was not allowed to be renewed with them. Perception of the brand was also likely a reason

Because of DC's potential market value, the license was segmented by toy types to make it easier for other companies to buy. Since Mattel's DC toddler toys were selling well, they allowed Mattel to continue making toddler shit, in addition to toy vehicles.

Yes, MacFarlane is too big. There is no current 1/12 scale DC line akin to Marvel Legends. There was the DC Icons line years ago and the Mattel line before those. Icons started out too small with the first releases but later matched closer to ML scale. Mattel are generally lesser quality than MLs, with simpler articulation a lot of the time.

For imports there's the mafex line which is comparable to MLs size wise, but much more expensive especially in the aftermarket.

Call it a hot take or whatever but I'd rather get some subpar paint apps and let the price stay the same than raise it. The amount of sculpts and sizes Todd is throwing out for $20 is more valuable to me than paint, which is something that's easy to fix yourself. QC with paint apps and the amount of applications seem to be dropping left and right with multiple companies lately, even with higher priced stuff. I already fix or repaint Hasbro's because they are sloppy, lack weathering, or neglect details and they're at $25+ now. So long as they have the basics in there, I can deal with fixing mistakes or adding more to make it nicer and that's much easier than having to make a figure bigger or add in sculpted details that are incorrect because of reuse.

Trust me, I've got some of those Mattel DC Multiverse figures and they are shit compared to ML. Worse plastic, worse paint, softer sculpts and really outdated articulation. That Red Hood is actually one of the better figures they put out. Part of the last waves were they updated the articulation a little bit.

It's a good look, but I do find it a bit odd how calm and clean the figure ended up. No yelling face, no tattered cape. An unusually stoic Etrigan with a cape straight from the cleaners. It's a cool look, but he was probably even more savage in Demon Knights than in other iterations, as opposed to the knightly demon he appears to be in figure form.

So is anyone building up any teams? I've been trying to make my ideal batfamily but unfortunately the scales are all over the place between lines and a lot of them just aren't great figures. Anyone trying with the Mcfarlane line? I've seen some cool Batfamilies already made up of those releases

This line up works pretty well for a general modern Batfamily. The costumes aren't perfect era-wise but it works. Its missing a bunch of the other members I like. The Mafex works great with Icons and even though we're getting a Nightwing from that line I think the slimmer Dick from icons is a great look for him.

The DC superheroes pre DCUC figures are dated in terms of articulation(which DCUC wasn't much good at either) but they gave us the newest Cass released, sadly. This line-up is one that feels just right for a lot of people I think, feels weird to think this isn't the modern batfamily anymore.
The Batman figure, gaunt face aside, is probably my favorite Batman sculpt ever. Unfortunately he's kinda short and small proportionally despite feeling big and bulky, which is a shame. I wish I could blend this and the Mafex.

And here's a more modern Batfamily. Mattel Multiverse was not great but I'm happy they gave us the batboys in the last wave, along with Spoiler, Batwoman, and Alfred. Unfortunately the size on these are all over the place, Tim feels way too big so Icons Nightwing is out and Mattel's Nightwing is in(which actually isn't that bad a figure) Jason and Steph's sculpts are really soft and bland. Which really sucks because I doubt we'll get a new steph figure anytime soon.

Both Mafex and DCSH batman are too small to the former Robins so I tried a Mezco from my Justice League set but even that one is too small.

So I tried sticking a 7'' scale Batman in, but unfortunately I don't have a decent modern one besides McFarlane Thomas wayne/Armor/McFarlane redesign. I just have a random Arkham one that came with Bane. It doesn't really work but it shows a 7 inch figure would probably work better. Was thinking of getting the essentials Rebirth version but it still looks a tad scrawny. Didn't like McFarlane #10000 and their Merciless BAF Rebirth is too specific a look
The more I look at him the more uncanny huge Tim looks. He next to Steph and Cass he kinda works in a comic book exaggerated way but next to Tim he goes into dwarf territory.

So unfortunately, my two favorite Batman figures don't really pair nicely with anything new except Icons and whatever Mafex come out. I have faith we'll at least get a Tim Robin from Mafex along with Nightwing/ Huntress, and I think they'll do New 52 figures since those got a lot fo exposure. Hopefully the Batgirls trio book and the general popularity of the webtoon encourages McFarlane to make more of those characters.

I can probably cobble a Dick Batman era Batfam with DCDirect Steph Batgirl and DCSignature Red Robin but the Multiverse Dickbats is just such a bad figure.

I have an Iconic Hal, Barry, Damian, Jon, Dick, and Kara, and complimented them with whatever brand it was after Iconic, but before McFarlane, and have a Rebirth Batman and Wonder Woman with them. I'm still waiting on a Superman I'm okay tossing up with them.

Only real contenders are the DC Icons, DC Essentials and McFarlane ones. Never handled the Essentials one, so can't comment. Between Icons and McFarlane, I prefer the McFarlane. It has better articulation (more up range in the head + toe articulation), lighting accessories make the figure pop, plus I personally prefer suits having little details like seams and textures.
