Just promotional names, they were never used in the story I don't think.
Remember those two waves weren't full teams each like before, they were half Toa and half Makuta. But the marketing still needed to call each group something.

I unironically liked the Phantoka and Mistika Toas. Gali and Pohatu should've been redesigned a bit but the rest are decent. Kopaka and Onua were the best ones.

As someone who really likes the Phantoka, I really don't find Onua appealing no matter how hard I try. The mask just doesn't fit him at all, especially with the comparatively skinny body. Maybe he looks better in person? I actually like Pohatu a lot though. The propeller claws gimmick is really cool.

nta but that looks nothing like sand blue. It's regular medium blue, plus you can tell it's medium blue by being so similar to the dark azure G2 mask.
also metru torsos have been used all over the place for years, anon, it's just not common

Speaking of, didn't an anon a while ago say he built double's Bomongus and that it had issues of some sort? Either way I'm wondering what one could substitute the torsos with that has a similar silhouette; maybe make them brickbuilt, or even use Throwbots gearboxes instead?
I dont want Metru gearboxes to jump in price when the original build itself might not even be that good.

Still have him assembled and it's grown on me somewhat but still very problematic. I don't think substituting the torsos for another torso will work. Slizer torsos are smaller and a completely different shape anyway. You could try cobbling together a bunch of technic bits but that's its own load of problems.

Last note but I also sympathize with ya on the Faxon bit - Galva can model good masks, but they're pretty shit when designing their own. That Faxon just looks like garbage, reminds me of Turaga Lhikan's "helmet" from the movie.

Boxor wasn’t as big or as pricey as the bohrok queens, or the exo-toa, but i think the dual build options in a single set is pretty fucking cool.
It seems like they only do alternative builds when you buy multiple sets, so boxor is pretty underrated

honestly the entire 2002 wave is so underrated. The Bohrok were a continuation of builds also having gear function with the bonus that flipping out krana was actually fun af. The bohrok va were neat looking and their tools were cool. krana themselves were a cool evil-looking mask‚ the Toa running around in golden kanohi‚ the bad guys were out to literally destroy the island and didnt have nay personal vendetta‚ the mystery of why the bohrok and bahrag called the toa "brothers‚" discovering the exo toa‚ going back underground to fight the bahrag making under the island not just makuta's relam but such a mysterious place‚ the bahrag themselves such unique looking sets and maybe the fianal monument to the old classic style of building that then gave way to the more aesthetic and less fuunctional building style‚ the comics reached peak kino during this time‚ the bohrok canisters looked cool and had a cool function‚ more kino animations‚ and at the end of the arc we go into the bohrok kal before it's revealed Makauta lives. Oh‚ and of course‚ the toa nuva and energized protodermis.

Yup‚ 02 is top tier and no one seems to say it.

If anything, the one pictured is perfect since Lariska would follow the dark hunger model that has anything goes (since it is a different mold then the toa as the dark hunters and metru toa aren't meant to be THAT autistically connected).

It's just like saying any dark hunter needed to follow the toa 2004 model detail because it came out the same year. Pretty sure they'd be more open because the dark hunters are more distinct in story that even Reddit Autists couldn't lock it into a single model restriction as a toa build.

The logistics of the whole '02 climax in the Bohrok nest are still dodgy to me, especially how the different areas were located in relation to each other, but I just chalk it up to how the storytelling used to be. It was less about making coherent sense and more about pure childlike fantasy where things seemingly happened "just because" and before you could stop to think about it, you were already caught up in the marketing hype of the next wave of toys. They probably didn't expect that there would be fans scrutinizing the writing years or decades later.

Not as bad as you think.

The problem with the Toa is that you can argue that they will merit Autistic detail is because the metru mold is too restrictive.

But what you are describing isn't at all bad as you could make an infinite amount of things out of those two as they aren't retardedly able to say "must look like Kreka/Nidiki" since that doesn't work.

The problem is with types from 2002-2005 with them being very samey but the ones that people come up with for the titans and titan themes (like dark hunters) logically can't be bent to a whim because even they wouldn't be able to pin it to a single form that is default for Dark Hunters since they've mostly be titans.

This is just hunch, so don't quote me on this. With Piraka and Inika I can sorta understand. It was cheaper to order bunch of orange LEDs from China for all of the Piraka. Then again, why not get white LEDs and then have the color come from the plastic but I'm not a designer. With Inika, I feel that the parts budget was already stretched pretty thin, with all of the new molds and fancy swords. After that, it's anyone's guess.

One, it was cheaper.
As an offshoot of one, there were only two sets in 2005 and 2006 with metru eyes each. I’m guessing by the time 2007 rolled around the other colors were considered discontinued, and making them again would have cost as much as making new recolors or something stupid like that. Who knows the inner workings of Lego’s recoloring autisms. This is the main reason I can imagine why they didn’t at least keep light blue, since they later did use that for Glatorian (diff shade) and G2
But honestly, the other colors didn’t really catch light that well anyway. Mainly with the metru eyestalk having an axle in the middle blocking light even more. Half the toa metru’s can almost appear black unless they’re up against light. The two colors they did keep don’t really have that problem.
It’s still lame as fuck though. I’d rather they made a new head with a different way to do eyestalks that would fix the problem rather than dropping it. Reason 1 probably had the mot impact in the long run.

my idea for the next generation of bionicle would focus prioritize on collection. So i’m talking mask recolors and all different other kind of alts for things like projectiles and ‘krana’. A while ago I invented Toa of Plasma OC who wore an orange Noble Matatu, which I don't think I've ever seen in a MOC. You could use that, and add some horns for extra personality.
Alternatively, you can give them a white mask. There's so much color variation among tribes (compare Jaller with Tiribomba), I imagine it's the same for the secondary elements too.

Another attempt like G2 would probably end in the same way so I'd risk something a little different. I'd start G3 with a bunch of Rahi sets and no canisters. They'd be technic built like the original ones with a focus on action feature and facing each other. The pitch would be that they'd be bionicle in name but attractive enough on their own as fun sets that non fans would want them too.

Lore wise they can say these are things that have always existed in the bionicle world and you could fit them into G1 or G2. Have a small description for each and let people use their imagination for how they'd interact with all the existing characters.

You are some toa that is summoned not from a beach-docked cannister but rather from a cannister embedded in a deserted village (even being embedded in dried up coast that resembles a desert gold town).

You are in a location that is randomized but the element of discovery is there when you realize that you don't have a mask and are weakened. Instinctively, there is a search for one then you find a lone matoran with a cracked/broken mask on (alive but comatose) with another that is presumed to be the toas gripped in their hands.

Now it is a journey of discovery of the landscape as well as bringing the matoran to their village or new one. You'd have to swap masks on the matoran in order to have some oregon trail element to the story so that it is a cooperative tale between the two traveling the landscape with limited access to resources.

The Turaga masks from 01 are really underused - but I can see why as they tend to be even more expensive than the Toa masks. Given the abundance of blay in later years rather than old gray I can see why those have limited usage but otherwise there's a great selection of orange, lime, pale blue and tan.

Outside of the lime Rau getting hit with the tranny tax noble masks were pretty cheap. They seem to be more expensive these days, as everything is, but great masks still cost even more.

I don’t have anything too rare, but from a quick glance at bricklink it looks like even the non-gold versions of he Ignika and Kraahkans would be annoying to replace so I guess those. I did have the Tower of Toa set as a kid so I at one point did have a flat gold Kraahkan, but it vanished one day.
Then maybe the trans blue Mask of Creation, the gunmetal/orange Umarak mask. Also looks like the gold Skull mask has become much more expensive and much rarer since I got mine.
Maybe some 2001 masks have really climbed, not sure. Don’t have that many

Mask pack masks are getting ridiculously expensive, especially noble masks for some reason. The Masks I do have like picrel are just random masks I've had for years that I got in bundles. If I did spend money on getting them I'd really only want them to put with my Turaga to have a complete set.

Usually I'd avoid Nuva masks bc canon autism and I'm not a huge fan of their organic look, but I like the Miru Nuva and think it works as a regular kanohi. I imagine it's like an inorganic Kadin or something.

For canister sized characters, Tahu Mata is a must, along side a Metru style Toa. I'd also recommend any of the Glatorian/Legends as they really ended up being solid looking figures despite the Inika style builds and crappy sockets. My personal favourites are Malum, Stronius and Strakk. The Barraki are all pretty nifty too.

For small sets, A Turaga is fantastic if only to compare it to everything that came after. They're ridiculously primitive but bursting with personality. McToran are iconic.

For titan sized most are pretty great. Fenrakk, Keetongu, Brutaka, Nocturn, Gadunka, Maxilos, Teridax - all fantastic picks.

Rahi are their own special category. - Bahrag and Muaka/Kane-Ra are defo worth the price tag for just how cool they are as Technic creatures.

Vehicles are hit or miss. My personal favourite is the Jetrax, though Thornatus is pretty cool too.

Honorable mentions for Uniter Onua, Umarak the Hunter, Toa Ekimu and the Toa Masters from G2 for being incredibly solid sets all around.

Whoever did art for the Skrall origin story and Lego: it was a good way to make the story abridged and engaged with their audience but instead they choose to cut with only three stories in one comic book (one if which was shit because they couldn't write subtle ways of incorporating blizzards/snow in story so they just made half of it obscured).

At the very least, allow some sort of continuation in comic form that'd work even with fan created characters in the promotion if they had to make the excuse they don't have the figures.

That entire graphic novel was kind of a letdown. I appreciate the thought and get what they were going for, making new comics that would not be restricted by toy releases. They could have written anything. So I'll never understand why they decided to waste this opportunity on a bunch of backstories. Especially since they already summed up Malum's story elsewhere in a few sentences. That was enough, it didn't need to be visualized.
The art was all over the place too. And since this GN didn't sell, they scrapped the plans to make more.
Thinking back, I'm stumped that they never tried to go back and finish off the '01 story in comic form after the publisher let them make new comics to pad out the story. Would have loved to see D'Anda back at least one time to adapt the Shadow Toa scene.

Greg revealed some years ago original script for next cancelled bionicle movie. In it there was a glatorian from so called earth tribe(most likely a placeholder for iron tribe as explained below).

So basically some retard wanted his fanmade stuff to be made into canon and greg like always just said "ok".
Greg justified it existence being unmentioned in not a single piece of lore of bara magna by saying that their history was 'too dark' for the inhabitants and that they somehow collectively decided to never speak about them.
The Earth Lord being a woman was similarly to sand lord, made up by fans who wanted more female representation, using reverse Toa Varian being male as explanation.
Earth Lord keikaku is just laughably dumb ripoff of Teridax.
Overall, the fact that it defied established canon from actual lore made me realize Greg doesn't give a shit about canon anymore or doesnt even bother to keep track of what is and what isn't canon.
This reminded me of that one guy who asked Greg to confirm that some hannah crabs died during reformation of Spherus Magna(pic related) because obviously this is very important.
I stopped paying attention to bionicle lore after greg abandoned his last bionicle web story so after reading all this retarded stuff years later I decided that it's much better to treat 'canon' selectively and not treat it too seriously.

idk where you've been hearing about bricklink from but it's generally a good place to buy sets and parts if you just avoid the shitty sellers. plus there's kind of the general rule that people are more vocal about complaints than they are about praise. if you're really that worried about having a bad experience then just ask people which sellers they've had good experiences with (piece of the pie is one store I'd personally recommend, although they mostly have loose parts as opposed to sets)

General loose pieces are cheaper than a complete set, but it depends. For example, I selected the "part out" option for Tahu Mata and found a store that had all his parts for a total of about 7 bucks, when the full set usually goes for 9-10. But you're not always going to find every part for a set at one store, and if you buy from multiple you have to pay the shipping for both.

I just bought this Knights Kingdom set, sans the mace but luckily I had the pieces to built it, and damn.
I love this one, the armor colors, the shield, it also shares the same playability with the Toa Mata/Nuva, hell it even has the average Toa height. I planned to use the armor for a moc but now I think I'll keep this guy around.

Yellow, keetorange and maybe even a bit of mata red work with plasma imo. Have white involved so they don't look identical to ta-matoran but I think any of those bright, hot colors work.

The only reason I had to have the eyebrows was because the clay would be too thick to allow for drying, and if there’s any water left in the clay before its put in the kiln then the piece would explode. It honestly turned out a lot better than I expected it to

Oh, I suppose if you modelled it around some round base, finding a way to do that would have been more difficult. I suppose letting it dry and then removing material from the inside should be possible, but it's been years since I've worked with clay.

It works, though the axle with circular hole needs to be a bit loose when attached because the head would be higher and the eyes wouldn't match with the holes of the mask.

Bros what would be the best sword piece for a knight? I really wanna build one. I already have the shield and some armor parts, but I gotta order more parts to actually start building. Scale should be like a tall Metru build, and most swords look a bit small that way. Figure for reference.

A fully custom one or one made of multiple swords like picrel would be best, although the latter can be harder to make on a smaller scale moc. Knight's Kingdom swords are all pretty short and there's very few Bionicle swords that would be fitting for a knight. Jaller Mahri's sword is probably the most fitting singular blade piece but one side looks worse than the other and it's more expensive than you'd think. A 9-15 length axle would also work if you for some reason want to have a rapier + massive shield combo. Whatever you decide, good luck.

The Hero Factory/G2 swords (like the two making up the tip on >>9323441) are less teeny tiny than a lot of the G1 swords and make a pretty nice, clean blade without all the greebles if you want to avoid those.
Jala and Lesovikk's swords from 07 are also a bit bigger I think but I don't have any in person to confirm.
When it comes to trying to make a G1 or KK sword look a bit bigger, you could try giving it a longer handle like you've done in the picture, but make it interesting with a pommel and a cross guard so it's not just a sword on a stick.

It's for a massive moc I'm working on. Supposed to be an old and lifeless looking knight. The arms are the only part I've worked on, and the completed arm is about 21-23 cm long (the sword is even longer).

Yeah I could have and I was thinking of doing it, but I had the whole piece pretty much done by the time I thought about it and decided not to bother since it had already taken like 3 hours to do each section of the mask. It’s still recognizable as the mask so I’m not too concerned about any changes I would have wanted to make since it turned out much better than I expected it to

Thats actually what I wanted to do with some of the stuff I made in the class. I wanted to intentionally make it look old since ceramics can potentially last thousands of years if undamaged. Having an old, weathered look on it now would just look cool

Update, solid little lot. Jetrax seems to be intact, with the final bag basically opened but untouched. There's two Krika, a Matoro Mahri, Tahu and Gali Mistika, a headless Berix, and then a bunch of extra bits from Hewkii Inika, along with the head of Kongu Inika. And Dume on wheels for...some reason.
