Can someone tell me the story of Scott getting BTFO'd?
Anonymous
>>9307700 Power-Con Mattel panel opened up with the "Dispelling the Rumors" part that OP posted
I assume Scott will make a video saying something like "Oh but MOTU isn't going away, but that could mean Universal will still continue it" or saying that "there are no plans to discontinue Origins" means "they renegotiated the contract" or something.

I know it's been said before, but seriously, how fucking gay is it on mattel's part to re-release Stone Cold as part of the last MotWWE wqve but not some variant of hogan aswell? It's especially unfair since andre is touching down just one wave prior. Surely there was some easy variant they could have done right? Mr.America, Hollywood Hogan, some deep cut rock'n wrestling reference? I would have taken anything.
Anonymous
>>9307725 WWE paid Mattel a licence fee (and it's been rumored even the tooling fees) for every MOTU character used. Maybe they calculated that releasing a wave of three instead of four would be cheaper to end the line on? Especially repaints with very little new tooling like Jawstin and Chyna-Ra.
Crimson Commander !!uoqqXVkn8aK
>>9307705 I'm expecting he's going to refer back to a few videos he did on toy weasel words that he says toy companies use, because they always show off toys that never make it to market. I fully expect him to say that, "there are no plans," means it could go away, meaning:
>"We didn't want it to go away, but retail didn't want it." That's 100% what I think he'll say. And he's going to point to Mattel Creations as being the return of Matty Collector, and again say that it's proof that Origins is leaving retail.
I think he got BTFO on the Origins issue, but as of this date it remains to be seen yet if he gets BTFO on the 2023 claim, because I think we can't know for sure until 2023 or 2024. If the license expires in 2023 does that mean figures that were planned up thru that point continue to be released thru 2023, or does it all get cut off at that point? If it does wind down in 2023, then really it wouldn't be until 2024 that we'd notice. So technical Mattel in that instance would be telling the truth if that were the case, and Scott could still be right. Although I've been speculating for awhile that maybe Mattel losing the DC license had to do with them cutting some new deal to keep MOTU, such as maybe they paid a king's ransom to renegotiate to keep it, and then only kept the part of the DC license that made money-- toddler toys. Because it was really bizarre for Mattel to lose the DC license, when Mattel has a better toy distribution than McFarlane and Spin Master, and therefore would make more money for DC/Warner Bros. I also feel there's some connection because the CEO of Mattel at the start of Origins spoke about how MOTU could be just as big as DC.

>>9307734 Hogan could have been a repaint too, I mean he was included with austin in the snake mountain ring.
Anonymous
>>9307739 It really didn't sound like Mattel's choice either way since WWE management and talent held a lot of sway concerning which figures were coming out for the line. It could have easily been some asshole in marketing (which hated the line) telling Mattel to just release three instead of four for the final wave.
Anyway, has anybody seen the MOTU-styled Rey they're doing? I might pick him up for some 7" WWEternia with my Masterverse figs.

Technically speaking, Eternia has a few species based factions. Obviously the most infamous are the snakemen, however there's also the bee people, the bird-men of avion, and clawful's people. Arguably it is possible there is a species of mer-people, especially since some comics have shown that to be the case. But if you ask me, there should be a race of spydors on par with the snake men. I demand a race of freaky deeky spider people. Just looking at old toybiz spiderman figures proves the viability of this idea.

>Mattel didn't show up in person, and from his experience, if they're not there in person to take questions, and seemed to hint that they must not have liked the blowback from fans over Revelation(that was my interpretation). >Said he noticed a lot of repaints in Origins, and that the line isn't a success unless you start to see lots of fully tooled figures, while Origins is seeing lots of repaints. He said this is a sign that a line is struggling. >Basically said what I said up above, that Mattel would keep Origins at retail as long as retail would support it >>9307737 >Said Origins' success or failure is tied to the CGI cartoon, and suggested that it's a line piggy backing off of the media tie-in, which is valid. I think he's missing the forest for the trees on Origins desu, because Origins was always a budget line. Everything about it was to make a good line on a budget, so of course there's repaints. I don't think it's an extremely hot toy, but I think it's selling ok-ish and more and more people are buying into it. I do agree about the CGI cartoon statement. He also didn't really address that Mattel called him out.

>>9307937 Someone also tripped him up in the comments over the tooling-- that there actually quite a bit of new tooling, and then rattles off a bunch of examples.
I think Scott's a bit more out of his depth on Origins, because he worked in these fan channel figures mainly, and isn't working on Origins and doesn't have an insider view on them, nor is he really following it. I think the only real valid opinion he's had on Origins' success or failure is that the Netflix cartoon needs to be a success, and even that, it just needs to keep the lights on with the line for another year or so to build up Origins.

The armor is molded to match the physique, whereas typically MotU armor doesn't have sculpted on pecs, it's usually a "bubble" with designs and patterns sculpted on to look decorative. Look at Fisto, Jitsu, Clawful and Mekaneck. Compare those to what Kol-darr is wearing.

He's saying "oh, Origins is failing because repaints in the main line"
Origins also has to put budget towards vehicles and playsets. I also assume that the MotU budget is having to be spread across Origins, Masterverse and CGI show (I don't imagine they all have separate budgets, just one big "MotU" budget to draw from, but I'll admit I'm just assuming)
New tooling costs have a half dozen directions it can go in.
If there was no Masterverse, no CGI and Origins was not doing vehicles and playsets, they would definitely have budget to spare for lots of new tooling

I'm just curious about the aesthetic, will it fit in with the rest of Masterverse, or will it get its own unique look. Not to mention, and something that might detract from further figures, a lot of these will have to be brand new because of the unique designs, and they won't be reusable.

>>9309817 >- Whiplash >- Spikor >- Burger King Randor Yep. When these guys come out, we'll be pretty much out of low-cost vintage characters. I expect Wave 9 to be those 3 and Grizzlor.
That leaves: Wun-Dar, Moss Man, Mekaneck, Sy-Klone, Two Bad, Leech, Mantenna, Snout Spout, Extendar, Rio Blast, Stonedar, Rokkon, Dragstor, Blast Attack, Saurod, Blade, Gwildor, Rotar, Twistoid, 6 Snake Men = 25 standard or deluxe releases
2 more deluxe He-Men and Skeletors.
$35 boxed Modulok and Multi-Bot releases.
So far, we've seen 8 waves of 4 standard figures each to 8 deluxes. Somehow I don't think that ratio will hold: 4 deluxe slots will be taken by He-Man and Skeletor. Kobra Khan and Snout Spout make 6. Saurod and Blast Attack have as complex of mechanisms as Champ's spring. At least 2 Snake Men will have to be deluxes. That's 10 out of 33.

I would hope Tung Lashor's drum gimmick is a Man-E-Faces level one cost-wise, because I don't see how alt heads could interact with it. Saurod's head is going to be the real challenge there, because sparking is a spring-like mechanism AND he has to lose the ball-jointed head.

I really hope I don't have to wait until January for my Tri-Klops to come in with Sun-Man. Does Mattel split orders between release dates?
