Sup /toy/.
I got a 3.5 yo autistic son who loves watching rc offroaders.
I'm thinking of getting into it, but don't really know anything about them.
I know you can buy cheap rc toys but they are really, really bad quality.
What would be a semi serious, budget oriented rig that I should think about? I'm thinking of something in 500 EUR range max.
And it has to have a real offroader body (think Toyota Land Cruiser, or Land Rover Defender, something that has real counterpart).
Also would love to hear your advice.
Rc general too, I guess.

I honestly don't know. I think Traxxas makes offroaders in 1/10 scale.

I also forgot requirements:
-sturdy - this will be used by a child after all
-not that extreme - we are going to use it in a park or in the woods, no extreme terrain
-electric

Well for a 3.5 yo a traxxas it's way too fast.. Also spending 500$ for a 3.5 yo doesn't make any sense. If you like the hobby I suggest starting with n HBX 16889 which is 1/16 scale very light, fast enough an indistructable. It's also cheap, around 80$ on banggood. There's a big community and a lot of spare parts if anything happens, Keep the Traxxas for later enjoy the HBX for now, that's my suggestion..

I used Traxxas pic for op only, I know its kinda overkill. I am looking for something more budget oriented.
Anyway, I think I'd like it too since I loved real offroading ages ago.

Just getting into the hobby myself, get him a cheap HSP (electric unless you like fixing/troubleshooting Nitro issues constantly)

Trail trucks from WPL RC and MN Models are close to 1/12 scale Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 and Land Rover Defender 90. These are closer to rock crawlers than bashers or racers so not really that fast.
