>>9313406 >Amazon Prime Live Action She-ra supposedly in development I don't know shit about Amazon Prime or its original content, so tell me:
What's their track record for quality writing?
And do their shows usually have a decent budget for special effects or costuming? Can we expect to see "monster" Horde characters, or will we be limited to human characters like Catra and Entrapta like the last show?
Crimson Commander !!uoqqXVkn8aK
>>9313460 The big thing to know is that that they have a diversity checklist that they enforce on shows; see the controversy over their Lord of the Rings show and the media push regarding it, and the demand for black, asian, gay, and trans characters.
https://deadline.com/2021/06/amazon-studios-inclusion-policy-playbook-1234776831/ >"Each film or series with a creative team of three or more people in above-the-line roles (Directors, Writers, Producers) should ideally include a minimum 30% women and 30% members of an underrepresented racial/ethnic group. This aspirational goal will increase to 50% by 2024." >"Aiming to include one character from each of the following categories in speaking roles, with minimum 50% of these to be women: LGBTQIA+, person with a disability, and three regionally underrepresented race/ethnic/cultural groups. A single character can fulfill one or more of these identities." https://www.dailywire.com/news/transgender-realities-in-the-lord-of-the-rings-facing-accusations-of-racism-tolkien-society-to-focus-on-diversity-at-seminar https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9729267/Tolkien-things-far-Fans-accuse-Lord-Rings-writer-society-political-correctness.html https://nypost.com/2021/06/26/j-r-r-tolkien-annual-seminar-goes-woke-with-diversity-focus/ https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/lord-of-the-rings-amazon-diversity-1234953348/ https://screenrant.com/the-lord-of-the-rings-biggest-series-flaws-ignored-fans/ >"However, as beloved and wonderful as the series is, it’s not completely perfect. I asked "does Amazon Prime have good shows?"
You provided a link to a diversity checklist that tells me nothing as someone with zero exposure to Prime or their content.
Yes, a lot of times that shit supercedes writing and it turns to shit (if this was Netflix I wouldn't even have to ask, but I've never watched or read discussions on Prime shows to know).
But you can also have cases where, even if writing is affected, the show still turns out at least acceptable because the woke shit is present but not intrusive.
It's a yes or no answer.

they employ other studios as well as having their own
even then they have multiple writers and show runners
so until we know the show runner and writers how can any one answer whether the show will be written well?
what crimson commander spoke to was a blanket policy that will affect the writing and that's as close as anyone can get to taking a random stab in the dark at the moment

Of all the universes where this could be a problem, I don't think it's She-Ra.

>>9313752 >I'm wondering if Dan scored an interview with Mattel like last year, and if they got any reveals for him. It's possible that they might also be making wait until after the CGI show drops tomorrow. Given how spooked Matty was after rev baxklash, it could be possible he didnt. Which is a shame, we could use some clarification on a few things in all honesty. As for the CGI show theory, I certqinly hope that's the case. Potentially Mattel could be playing the waiting game for the moment. They likely want to recreate what they did with turtles with motu. Kid line based off the ongoing show seeing release alongside the oldfag product.

>>9313406 >you could introduce a new gimmick to Origins what would it be? Light piping
Color change in water
Spring loaded "grasping" feet for a bird of prey or bat styled character so they can grasp victims in flight or hang upside down in a cave
Icer as a snowglobe that was posted way back
Spinning drill (either arm or head mounted)
Some kind of "break apart gimmick" like a combination of King Hiss and Blaast Attak where an outer body "exlodes" to reveal an inner body within. Like....a hatching egg man or something
Anonymous
>>9313756 That isnt what that anon said, I think anon was trying to say the show would function as a live action nu-ra series in terms of tone and content.
Anonymous
>>9313740 Give Dan time, he’s exhausted his main hobby and the only things left now are getting missing accessories for figures like HALF COURT. He’ll find some new devices.
As for Mattel, all of these new reveals won’t be available for some months even without the shipping crisis.

>>9313758 Im atleast glad we've gotten as many of the heroic warriors as we have. It's just a shame we barely have any of their vehicles. Meanwhile we have about a third of the evil warriors and TWO of their vehicles, three if you want to consider panthor a vehicle. This is the one instance where the motu heroes outnumber the villains.

>>9313753 MCX has been running longer than Origins too. I think the problem is that retail just doesn't really like to support Mega Construx, and favors Lego, even though Lego's pretty shit in comparison. There's often little to none found at most stores.
>>9313760 It's possible they don't want to say anything. The CGI show's initial trailer got a lot of dislikes over the anger over Revelation. Scott even put out a video calling Kevin Smith a liar who kept doubling down on his lies, and that he was only riling people up more.
>>9313764 I'd say it's a given it'll be like Nu-Ra, but just a new take. Expect race swaps and probably lesbians. If it were me, I'd make the mandatory lesbians and gay characters people like Madame Razz, and maybe even make her a black woman to kill two birds with one stone.

Just include some yellow beast man armor with him, maybe a different head like classics, and Id be happy.
Crimson Commander !!uoqqXVkn8aK
>>9313795 I'd like to say that they should, but would Mattel want to do it? The online would probably expensive at the lower production runs and sales they'd be doing. And would fans pay the premium? Imagine like Mattel Creations tier price hikes on sets. Would it be possible that they could get enough sales from online fan channels and Amazon? I think they tried that with that Advent Calander, and now we don't get Christmas Orko. I'm still pretty upset over the set being cancelled.

That way all the retailers would have to stock are the figures themselves. This model has for the most part worked well for the halo line, which only sparringly sees their sets released to retail while the figs make the real retail money. >>9314667 MOTU was a big deal when I was a kid. New Adventures had just come about and there was a lot of mystique about He-Man, because of how big MOTU had been in the early and mid-80's. I'd rent episodes of the Filmation show on VHS, which was pretty much the only way you could see them at that time, and I even had my mom purchase some tapes for me. I also really liked the Dolph Lundgren movie, which had an effect on me. And occasionally I'd find older MOTU figures at garage sales and thrift stores, and would buy some of the New Adventures figures at Toys R Us. I do vividly recall lots of people still talking about MOTU, particularly older kids, which peaked my interest.
It sucked so hard when the franchise went away in the 90's.

>>9314667 He-Man was always just something I kind of knew about because of its cultural shadow, but the extent of that knowledge was just that he was a naked guy with a sword who fought Skeletor and She-Ra, who I only knew in name, was his sister.
The extent of my actual exposure to the brand was the HEYEAH video and the occasional Skeletor meme.
I thought it was lame and stupid and I didn't care about it at all, but that's how I felt about every 80s toy commercial cartoon with the exception of Transformers.
I saw Origins Skeletor at Walmart and was shocked that MOTU had any kind of actual figures in production (I thought it was a completely dead brand) and considered getting Skeletor "as a joke" because he looked funny and I like his memes.
I decided to watch the actual show first, again, "as a joke" then I kept watching it because I thought it was funny, then I unironically started to like it, then Revelation came out, I got Origins He-Man and Skeletor, started watching OG She-Ra and Nu-Ra, then 200x, got even more Origins figures, started collecting Masterverse, and now I'm legitimately excited for the new show.
Over the course of about a year, I went from knowing fuck-all to being absolutely obsessed. I haven't had a fictional property take hold of me like this since I was a kid.

Comic shops were a bigger deal back then and the vintage toys commanded a pretty high price at one time it seemed. Then 200X came out and really loved that show and that line, but a lot of the collectors really made it hard to buy into, because they'd buy up all the secondary characters, so you just had He-Man and Skeletor on pegs, and then you'd visit a comic shop and the brand new figures would have a $50 price tag on them.

Mostly I was drawn by the figures' varied gimmicks and the mixed-up aesthetics (barbarian, medieval, sci-fi, a cowboy). When the line died, I collected GI Joes until deciding I was too old for toys when THAT died in '94, but would keep pulling out my MotU figures and all the playsets besides Eternia and play with them, basing their adventures more on the '84-87 mini-comics than anything else.

Battle-damaged Orange Faker (basically Battle Bones Faker but in orange instead)

Purple Zodac (Loyal Subjects figure, which I think was based on the magenta armor/weapon from the Ultimate Battleground Weapons Pak)
Zodak from 200X/Classics (though if they're doing just repaint it would just end up like the Loyal Subjects figure instead of the new parts that the Classics and 200X had)
Moss Man with Filmation colors
Minicomics Pink Sorceress

Vintage Toy-color Trap Jaw
Blue Filmation Hordak
Wun-Dar
Minicomics Stratos
1982 DC Comics Stratos (basically Stratos but with a red beard)
Serpent Claw Man-At-Arms (they used the 200X color scheme on an Eternia Mini of 80s Man-at-Arms)
Whatever this Loyal Subjects Tri-Klops color scheme came from (it's not the minicomic version)

W2 is replenished perpetually and probably the most popular wave, will show up for grabs on Amazon from time to time
W3 is harder to come by. Zodac is usually the cheapest. Roboto is the hardest to get, do not remove his arms from his torso because the little blue discs in the torso that hold his arms in like to come loose.
W4 is also harder to come by now, the least popular is Stratos. Hordak can br substituted with buzzsaw version unless the gimmick and the lever on his back bothers you.
W5 randomly shows up at Wal-Mart. The 200X Evil-lynn has both old knee and knees variant. The hardest to find figure is Faker. LoP Mer-Man is probably more popular (at least here he is).
W6 is barely out and not even seen at retail yet. Webstor's web climbing gimmick is fiddly.

Just finished the new show and it rules. It’s like they took the top 10 filmation characters everyone loves, removed the filmation, and showed us a majority of their origins. Some of the dialogue just fell flat to me but when it has a good joke it’s a REALLY good one. Skeletor is great! Ork-0 is great! Evelyn is hot as fuck. It’s doing all the new things I wanted from MOTU but keeping everything that worked. It would be a 10/10 for me if they just had a better intro.

Crimson Commander !!uoqqXVkn8aK

>>9316878 I liked it too. It was a refreshing take, that while different also respected the lore. He-Man's origin even goes back to his original vintage toy, having him be from a village in the jungle and mixes it with some Tarzan, where he's really a prince, but he didn't know it. I also appreciated the underboob they gave to Evil-Lyn in her normal Evelyn form, and actually allowing their women to be feminine.
I feel like the show is building up almost like a prologue laying the groundwork for being more like the traditional set-up for the Filmation series, where they will eventually live in the Castle, since Randor says he needs a new "Man-At-Arms," and meets Ork-0.

>>9316959 that's kind of disappointing, I prefer gorilla esc beastman
>>9316964 Nice, one has to wonder just how much they have planned for the series. It seems like the writers have alot they want to get to. That said I wish there were more villains, seems like we're keeping it pretty small scale for now.

>>9317001 I'd guess they'll keep faction membership the same. When Skeletor gets kicked off the throne, the circumstances could be plotted such that guards who become Two-Bad stick to him.
In like the first episode, Mer-Man and Avion were name dropped as allies Randor could call and didn't. So we could also get a Friendly Mer-Man who gets buttered up by Skeletor during his kingship.
I appreciate this pacing. 200X threw 20 characters at us in the first episode and I think this works better.

I am 2 and a half episodes into the new show and liking it a lot. The character animation is nice and bouncy and it's interesting that a lot of the visual effects like smoke are 2D animated.

And I say this as someone who does not like the 2021 series and probably won't watch even an ep.
