Just picked up a Part VI Jason, but having a bit of a time getting anything into his left hand. A little silcone lube wasn't enough, and my model files don't work so hot on the softer plastic. Any suggestions? It feels like the inside of the fist is tighter around the center than the outer part.

D&D is a nostalgia brand in part, especially the part of it that NECA seems to be going for (or perhaps that they licensed), so it's surely less lucrative for a lot of licensors. Even McFarlane doesn't seem to go for the lesser known brands anymore, though I could see them doing a full blown D&D (including Megafigs of at least some monsters) outside of being based on the old figures. Jazwares would probably go for a full D&D line as well. Drizzt appears to have possibly been a flop for Hasbro, so perhaps this is them licensing out the brand (at least parts of it, like this vintage toyline).

I'm just hoping they get their double joints. Implement them like Super Shredder and they'll look great, especially with that inner elbow joint, assuming they go for that style, with sculpted scale mail.

Ya, but Tiamat is particularly notable to the lore, and while the Tarrasque is also quite a notable huge CR monster, it probably doesn't have the appeal of a giant 5 headed dragon.

I agree that it's nothing particularly exciting, but it doesn't mean good stuff won't still be on the way. We know D&D is happening, more Gargoyles will be coming before too long (at least for those in the US), and who knows, maybe these Aliens will be a cool variant.

What I'm most excited about now is the D&D stuff, and I do so hope not to be disappointed. If they have lackluster articulation I'd be real sad. It's annoying, because NECA has been making some great strides with their articulation, so it'd be unfortunate to see them take a step back, like on their wave 2 The Boys figures. I'm also the kind of person who thought their double jointed Casey was fine, and don't find the single elbow jointed one any better, which many would disagree with, so we all have our opinions, I guess.

That's pretty interesting if so, and could explain why his un-armored limbs are jointed while the armored ones are not, because they were putting together a kind of proof of concept. This does kind of look like a character sheet to show the licensor. Maybe there's still hope for double?
With the way the armor on Grimsword's inner elbow looks though, I can't imagine he'd have much of a functioning elbow if the top and bottom half couldn't articulate, and even then they'd probably only get about 90.

I assume at general retail, assuming it isn't exclusive to the wizkids site, I assume it'll be $30-35. I will say that these (so far) seem like NECA from a few years ago, so I am hoping when we see the final products they'll look better. Well, either way it isn't going to be well hidden, as can be seen. The elbows are really obvious, but that's fine. It'll let Alf have a lot more personality, he can put his hands on his head, he can hold things close to his body, etc. I just think that function trumps form, especially with a dynamic character like these D&D type characters, or Casey from the TMNT line. Hell, I'd be ecstatic if the Turtles themselves got double elbows, they're Ninjas, they should be able to get all those exaggerated poses, just like how the movie Shredder and Super Shredders can.

Warduke's popular, as far as old characters god, but I don't know much about Grimsword.

Grimsword's a wave 2 character, but if I had to guess why NECA is going for him is pretty much just because of the rule of cool. It is a bit surprising they didn't go for Strongheart for a good vs evil setup. Makes me wonder if we'll get 2 good guys for wave 2.

Is the Skull Island Kong worth getting? He looks the best of the bunch, I feel. I looked at some reviews and he looks pretty good. I'm usually not a fan of the old style of NECA hips but in the videos they seemed to function really well. Does everything work well on him? Would you recommend this version, or another, or even wait for a future version that may be coming?

I personally went with the plane cause he had the chains and I thought the plane was a great detailed piece. The heads are the same between the two sets though, so you don't miss anything there.

Just go with what accessories you like best honestly. If you want Kong smacking around dinos, boom. As far as the hips, haven't had any problems. I think I had to unstick one hip, but otherwise that was it. Everything's been tight enough.

Unrelated, but Kong and Super Shredder are what sold me most on Neca's double joints. Really do wish the DnD figures had em.

With a plane you can help Kong fly, while the little dinos are neat, you can't do much besides having kong hold them, but you get a giant stick which is nice.

Non shitpost question hoping for a non shitpost answer. I stopped buying Neca in 2018, only collected Predators and Aliens, but the qc at time just wasn't there. Mostly encountered figures having ridiculously loose joints, did have a few break but I was always able to return those for new ones. I'm assuming the Predator buck was inherently flawed which caused occasional breakage. Has the quality improved over the last few years? I'm mostly concerned about figures being loose as hell at the hips. I'd really like to pick these dudes up, but any time I see Neca discussed it's always heavily biased one way or another. I haven't bought any of the Turtles but they at least look sturdy, so I'm hoping these will be the same.

They've recently shifted to ball and socket hips on a lot of their figures, and it seems like there are minimal QC issues with those in terms of looseness. Based on the pics though, it's hard to tell if these will have those hips or the old style that are linked together (that you're talking about). You can see above some talking about the hips on King Kong, which have that old style of hips, but they seem to work fairly well on those. It's honestly luck of the draw. I have a Dutch and a Gorilla Soldier, for example, who's hips are tight, and those are the old style, so those are always a bit of a toss up. QC overall in recent figures seem to be pretty decent for the most part.

We don't know for how long these have been in development for, and using the classic single jointed arms (though they have started to use these again here and there) makes me wonder. Also Grimsword, you can see a bit in there, but you certainly can't tell what's in there. Either way, these are probably the paint masters, and are otherwise very clearly prototypes, so who really knows.

I am looking for that wave 2 of the Defenders of the Earth for that very reason though. Not a fan of that Ming though, since he looks far too similar to Flash.

Dont keep up with the aliens to much but I own both rhino aliens and the joints are fantastic on both.
As for the predators since about Ahab onward the joints have improved on them, not perfect mind you but also not falling apart either like some of the earlier preds.
Deluxe armored assassin from the last movie, the lasershot pred, and alpha predator all have fantastic joints.

Ya, I mentioned something like that in that post, but, historically, Have we ever seen such a thing from NECA? Like where we saw a prototype then it was altered in some way (though most specifically articulation) for the final release?

For example we know DST does this here and there. They had those really good LOTR figures on display, the articulated ones with double joints, then they made them all singles joints that couldn't even hit 90 degrees.
