It's because most people are useless and weak and let others dictate their life because of "embarrassement". This is really the answer. Study psychology.
There was once a time when people made fun of adult toy collectors, and most people are weak and feeble minded. Even if they were not made fun of themselves, they let the stories of others being bullied scare them. People become afraid of things and stop doing things or hide things because they are afraid of what "others" might do or say about them because they don't know how to believe In themselves.

People with healthy minds and no mental problems would not say this. They would not even think it because doing what you like and what makes you happy without worry of what others might think about it is truly living life without any bullshit.
"Losing your imagination" is simply another way of saying "I care too much what other people think about me so I will just act stupid like them". It's letting external forces rule your life instead of your internal beauty and individuality. Being an adult means doing whatever the fuck you want, if that means playing with toys then do it. If you think there is anything wrong or weird with it you unironically have mental issues that you have to deal with. You unironically let "society" make you like this and it is truly sad.
