For age, think of it more like miles on an engine.
A 10 year old truck with 50,000 miles will run waaaay smoother than a 5 year old truck with 100,000 miles.
So if they spend time in stasis, they're not really aging.
In g1, the earthbound tfs weren't suddenly considered "old" because 4 million years passed.
In idw, tailgate basically gets shut down the day he was born, making it like he was born in the 2000s instead.
This is probably why age isn't a huge thing. They all love for millions of years, but the ones who show physical signs have been running constantly, for longer than most, and probably have the experience to back it up
