Third if I didnt have to buy a 600 bucks glue and paint and spend 5 moons adding properly the layers spending 7 hours a day to watch it dry, it was because I was fucking 5 yo and these lil niggas were badass and cheap

And yet somehow they saved Lego from bankruptcy, I'll admit my love of Bionicle mostly stems from that fact. The story was neat at first, when so much of the setting was mysterious.

They were legit but I remember them mostly just blending in with the rest of my toys. Marvel figures would fight with the Bionicles and there was always the possibility of the tech deck dudes joining in too. Just a regular old Toy Story. They just never stood out as anything spectacular is what I've realized over the years. Especially now that they're scalped to shit.

it must be nostalgia, they didn't look fun to me as a kid, the point of lego to me is your ability to modify a kit, but these are just action figures, which probably mean a lot to those that had them, but I never had them

According to Christian Faber, one of the main guys behind the IP, Lego back then actually played with the idea to split Bionicle off from Lego and handle it as a separate brand, mainly because they assumed that having the big red Lego logo on the packaging of those mean, violent looking robotic things would alienate and confuse their target audience, making the sets look less cool to them.
