One thing ive always loved and have been fascinated by is action figure design/concept art, so lets try to have a thread dedicated to it shall we? Heres a sketch mark taylor of MOTU fame did when designing the splinter action figure for the first TMNT toyline

Same here. I’ve got so many saved from various lines, but for now in keeping with TMNT, these are some of my favorites.

The original rocksteady sculpt was so fucking badass but they axed it and created the sculpt that eventually went to retail because the original prototype wouldve used too much plastic per figure and was cost prohibitive

Does Mark Taylor still draw? Someone should really pay up to have him design one more round of figures. Guy was one of the most important people in influencing the look of 80s/early 90s toys.

Aaron Archer had some cool stuff on his Instagram. I was happy to learn the Kenner batman team was the same as the Beast Wars team, those were my favorite two toylines as a kid next to power Rangers.

Well, they were trying to adapt a visceral type of artstyle to toys, while now adays they are creating things with the kids in mind from the start. That's why they lack longevity because when they grow up they don't find any value in those things. The mid to late '90 were probably the last time physical toys were culturally relevant in entertainment with a degree of staying power before passing definitely the torch to videogames.

Priceless. They had to make the Teela figure less curvy that it as originally designed

Really starts around 18 minutes in where they talk about the focus test groups but that's where the part about trying to steal the figures comes in. The whole interview is worth listening though

Believe it or not, it’s an unproduced figure from “The Mask” series. Here’s a COPS one, by Bart Sears. In the Marvel General I posted some Bart Sears X-Men concept art, which I’ll post here as well later.
