I’m conflicted on how I feel about the movie bombing; I hate the asian Snake Eyes and what I’ve read of his characterization, and everything it represents, but I also dislike the fact it could potentially be read as Joe isn’t popular or whatever and the whole thing gets pulled.
I suppose the most infuriating thing is they had a great action flick in the actual Snake Eyes story, which could’ve been done as a cool CA: Winter Soldier type spy-thriller. I think it would be hard to argue it wouldn’t have done better than what we got.

Crimson Commander !!uoqqXVkn8aK
And who the fuck wants the O-Ring figures to be slavish to the vintage look? Look at these add-ons, Man Faced vintage style Scarlett on a man body. From my experience many collectors including myself upgraded their O-Ring Scarlett to the comic pack version from the early 2000's because she was more feminine and had her ponytail.
Anonymous
>>9401424 The worst part is that the first two goals seem to be just straight repaints with new heads/gear. The flight crew is probably the only good unlock and they're the hardest to reach sadly.
>>9401432 That's nothing a pair of snips can't fix. The real issue is the overall clearance in the cockpit.
Though I do agree it's dumb to make an item like this specifically *just* for O-ring figures. Even the Roboskull kickstarter managed to make their $200+ retro vehicle work with multiple different figure lines with a simple but clever engineering trick. With this, all they'd need to do would be to have a switchable back peg system.
Crimson Commander !!uoqqXVkn8aK
>>9401440 I just find it to be such a blunder. Most Joe collectors moved on to ME, and then they're going to try and force O-ring on us with a premium priced vehicle that absolutely wont work with modern era unless you dremmel out the pegs destroying the parachute feature.
And it's very fucking lazy of them not to update the sculpts. Pic related is what they should be going for if they're making new O-Ring. They even have the balls to call the Scarlett figure a "recreation" of her look from the opening o the ARAH cartoon, which it isn't. It's just a vintage Scarlett head swapped on Ace's body.

It's catering to my least favorite part of the collector community, who doesn't even support the line. It's like if Star Wars was only catering to 5POA Star Wars collectors who didn't even open the figures and just wanted to put the carded toys on their shelf.
The way they're even handling the figures is exactly what I thought they'd do if they came back. I knew they wouldn't do new improved sculpts to encourage you to buy in, that it'd be the figures unlike with the comic packs where they had the decency to update them. The only positive thing they did with these new ones was make the hands out of PVC to prevent the thumbs from breaking and to make the O-rings out of a new material to last longer.

>>9401494 That's probably exactly what happened. Hasbro wanted to reissue their Sky Striker again, Wal-Mart said "No" so Hasbro went all "Fine, we'll sell our own Sky Striker...with blackjack and hookers!"
And again, this may be...no pun intended...testing the waters for a possible Flagg. The Sky Striker is THE accessory you want on a Flagg, so what better way to see if people would be interested a Flagg then to see if people are willing to double/triple dip on Sky Strikers. The multiple sticker options, the multiple pilot options and the buildable crew and equipment teams means if you get three or four of these things, you already have enough staff and jets to populate a Carrier.
The ONLY downside to this set is the back pegs on the flight seats, but otherwise, this is potentially a good move and a great display piece.

>>9401511 I think it was more just kind of strange they billed the ME re releases as "retro" since all these retro lines that toy companies are tripping over themselves doing are pretty much 1:1 recreations of old 80's stuff. Them saying "retro" is the ME 2000s stuff really is kind of weird, and really isn't true retro. I know of expected it was going to be 80s and 90s stuff too, not the 2000s stuff.
I do get what you're saying, though. I was on HISStank long enough that seeing old fuckers bitch about non-ARAH stuff is just dumb.

>>9401512 I don't think they have the old Skystriker mold anymore. That's why with Retro they've been resculpting some of the vehicles such as the Fang. They had moved to a new factory I believe outside of China to cut costs. It had always been an issue as well that the Modern Era Skystriker was not a 2 seater like the vintage, which makes it more annoying that they gimped this one as being just for O-Ring if they're sculpting a brand new one and giving blast effects.
>The ONLY downside to this set is the back pegs on the flight seats, but otherwise, this is potentially a good move and a great display piece. I'd support it if they fixed it. Although for a Haslab, making it a Skytriker is also kinda lame in my book. It should have been either a Terrordrome or Joe base, since we've had Skystrikers before.

I was pleasantly surprised when it wasn't, because I prefer modern era. Although I had pretty much gotten everything I needed for modern era, I like still adding to it.
I find that they missed the mark on the O-Ring figures, and even the Snake Eyes in the Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes two-pack is wrong. They made him Commando Snake Eyes instead of Ninja Snake Eyes despite advertising him as Ninja Snake Eyes in the carry case. And I knew they'd do that shit, because they're just doing lazy re-pops of the same things we've always gotten. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same exact Commando SE we got during 2000's.
>I was on HISStank long enough that seeing old fuckers bitch about non-ARAH stuff is just dumb. I hate it. I see em all the time. They always complain about how they essentially want Joe to be Marauder Task Force, but also they have to be O-Ring.

To me the only draw of this was to finally get a 2 seater Skystriker in modern era, since they resculpted the interior of the vintage jet to make the ME one, and had to remove the second seat due to the larger scale. Yet, they didn't make a set of modern era seats for this newly sculpted Haslab version. It's the biggest blunder for me, because without it I have zero interest. I can buy on ebay right now a vintage Skystriker for less money, and buy reprolabels and sticker it up all nice and mint right now if I wanted an O-ring compatible 2 seater. The ones the Trooper comes with are great, mainly because the Nerf blasters themselves are inspired by real world firearm concepts and thus everything comes full circle. But the blaster Beachhead has....well that shoots discs and it shows. It's just not a convincing "real world" weapon, and even less so in a flat green color. Had he had a accessorized Stryfe or Recon with all it's attachments, I wouldn't have an issue as those again have enough real world design concepts on em to work as passable teched up guns.
That said, some of the non-nerf blasters are actually worse imo. Gung-Ho has some terrible weapons imo, though that's down to the material's used on em moreso then their designs. Every one of mine are just warped and flimsy and unusable. Every other Classified gun is nice and sturdy, but his are just the worst.
>>9403746 I'd rather pay $500 and get one with modern engineering, updated sculpting, increased play-ability and some actual stability. Though I certainly wouldn't turn down a $300 reissue. I just have no place to put it...yet.

I think this is my favorite gun that's appeared in the line so far. Duke's ties for second though. I actually didn't mine Beachhead's after I repainted it to match the boxart. I like having a mix of real world and sci-fi/Nerf. It would make sense that Joes would have some cutting edge weapons to fight against Cobra. The only weapon I've hated is Roadblock's and mostly it was because after playing Operation Blackout and discovering that it was just a giant taser. I hope they don't drop the mix and start doing all real world. It's already a bummer that they're afraid to keep going with the original aesthetic and making everything look like 1984 again because boomers can't handle change.

I was almost able to buy Outback a moment ago on Target. I had two of him in my cart, and when I went to check out it kept giving me an error about my credit card. I tried multiple cards and it kept telling me to correct my credit card information. I refreshed the page and my cart was empty. I went and tried to re-add the figures, but it kept giving me an error also and not letting me.

If anyone deserves a revamp like Roadblock got with the Heavy Artillery one it would be him. skew his colors closer to the classic, give him his Classic Hat and the Marine Corp Tattoo, and honestly just cast his guns in a sturdier plastic. Or give him something new I'd be good either way.
On an entierly unrelated note, I found a second Flint last week and decided to swap the legs with Beachhead. Not entierly sure how I feel about them.

Did you guys notice that if you preorder the SS and Spirit figures as a set on BBTS, it includes a third “secret figure”?
Anonymous
>>9404143 It doesn't "include" a 3rd figure, you are buying a set of 3, we just don't know what the 3rd figure is yet. I mean we do, its probably gonna be the normal B.A.T. but they are either idiots or don't want people to scalp and buy them all instantly. Make it a "secret" that way a chunk of people get it without having to worry, and then complain about scalpers getting them all in the 2 minutes before they sell out online.

Well, I guess he’ll live on as a playable character in Operation Blackout. It’s just still so weird that they made all those images and marketing stuff using that version of Storm Shadow, but then just suddenly change it.

>>9404183 Never say never. They must have a mold of it, he was in all the early material, and Wave 2 was mysteriously sparse. And the new SS figure shares nothing from this design and took a long-ass time to get here.
Don't be surprised if parts of him get used for later figures either. You could get a lot of mileage out of those kneepads. Surely someone needs Batman gauntlets.
Anonymous
>>9404576 I don't think they ever did make a mold of that guy, why would they? His design popped up early in the line, but he was never hinted at being one of the initial wave releases. Hell, I'm still blown away that the Arctic Storm Shadow seems to have a 90% unique mold and wasn't just repainted into a more basic version. Hell, he wasn't even just an early pre-use of the movie design like some people figured he'd be. If Yakuza Shadow got to the molding stage, I'm sure he would've come out in some form.

The 3,000 backers could be an indicator that there's only somewhere between 3,000 to 6,000 vocal fans that would support an O-ring only Skystriker.

>>9404402 >>9404576 I'm watching the VOD since I couldn't tune in yesterday and Emily specifically says they wanted to do a nod to the Sunbow cartoon with this wave and a classic 80's Storm Shadow. That very well could mean the Storm Shadow we've been seeing in the marketing isn't dead and gone. They could be playing it smart and getting this version out to appease the boomers and then throwing out the Classified design one later on. My hope is they do another deluxe version like 00 Snake Eyes that would be the white compliment to that set.
Crimson Commander !!uoqqXVkn8aK
>>9404650 I could name a dozen better Haslab ideas:
>G.I Joe Classified Skystriker >G.I. Joe Classified Joe Headquarters >G.I. Joe Classified Terrordrome >Modern Era Terrordrome >Modern Era Joe Headquarters >An actual Modern Era Night Raven(not the rise of cobra version) They could even do entire waves of niche sub-teams:
>Eco Force >Ninja Force >DEF >Star Brigade I have nothing fully against O-ring. I like O-ring, I own O-ring figures, but modern era is the current updated versions of that particular scale of Joe, which is why something like Roboskull sells, particularly when Roboskull is designed to work with alternate seating for different types of figures, working with 1:18 and 1:12. Roboskull is also something we haven't had in Modern Era or even Classified, since Classified has only a few bikes so far. Roboskull is a well thought out kickstarter.
>And it's funny that this seems like it would be right up a certain yter's alley(and their fans'), if not for being Haslab. >>9404856 I could justify the price if it's a whole new sculpt and larger than the original with two seats now, since the Modern Era one was too small and couldn't accommodate a second figure in the cockpit since they made it by retooling a vintage Skystriker. It also has a few other bells and whistles to it, such as a flight stand, although you can actually buy flight stands right now on ebay for your ME and vintage Skystriker. It's just not that exciting, and is made for only a niche type of Joes that most people who are fans of Joes don't even really collect anymore.
Anonymous
>>9404871 I know of a lot of Joe fans who only collect O Rings. The problem is they only collect vintage. By being new this is instantly outside their interest. It's designed for a crowd that doesn't want new. Even faithful reissues don't appeal to a lot of them.
Crimson Commander !!uoqqXVkn8aK
>>9404876 The only way I'd really collect a new o-ring line is if it were something new, like pic related where they were giving them newly sculpted heads to improve the figures. Super7 wanted to do the same idea, and make them look identical to the Sunbow cartoons, but Hasbro wouldn't let them, because they said it was too similar to something they might actually make. So Super7 had to do their Re-Action line instead.
I always assumed if Hasbro brought back o-ring that it'd be the same deal they're doing right now, where it's just lazy repops of the same figures they always repop, with no new sculpts, and no new characters, and only few characters. The only repopping the figures would interest me is if they were 50+ figures deep into the line, which they'll never do. Hasbro will do like maybe a dozen figures and then stop.

>>9404855 Nothing about what he said was false. You loudly spewing bullshit about "no one" ever liking the design doesn't make that true. But in the end it doesn't matter because you win and get to keep guzzling down your endlessly recycled stagnant 80's designs.
