The Pulse exclusives tend to be fairly easy to get, even for non Premium members. I was able to snag my Logan/Old Man Xavier 2 pack last year without trouble. I remember the Hellfire Club going fairly quick but didn't they end up restocking it?

It's because classic Dr. Strange isn't really that popular compared to most other heroes or even MCU Dr. Strange (most people who know of him think of Benedict Cumberbatch instead of the original character). Nah, I kind of expect retail shelves to dry up between now and Christmas, so I'm not sold that these will pegwarm/clearance at big box retail.

In hand, the Select Olsen likeness is, to be honest, pretty horrible. Select is still in the dark ages with their likenesses--not always, but for the most part--and while the Legends likeness isn't perfect, it's a damn sight better than the select one. As for the details on the bodies? I think the Legends does a great job and the Select body honestly comes off looking cheap, due to the amount of unpainted plastic and what paint IS there looking pretty low quality.

I decided to cancel my preorder for Doctor Strange. The more I looked at it, the more I didn't like it. I know Shang Chi has never been very popular, I think, but at least his comics from the 70s had some cool villains and the overall super spy theme with Shang, Reston, Black Jack and Leiku. Even the 2000s update was so much cooler than whatever this is. I haven’t seen it, don’t plan on it because the MCU as a whole doesn’t interest me anymore post-Endgame, but I this was my most anticipated of those that were announced and it’s disappointing to see the end product.

I had the lowest of expectations, which is probably why I thought it was fine, with some fun scenes, but I really hope something happens where they get rid of Katy because the implication is for whatever reason she's gonna be tagging along with Shang Chi in the future and that idea is terrible.

But yeah, Wenmu (Mandarin) in the upper left looked so good in that scene and then it's like one minute long. Xialing on the right looked great in the beginning, but at the end they all have to get their TOY SALES costumes and it's kinda lame. Shang's looks alright, but they did not translate it well to the toy.

It was very much a "lets hurry up and get through this origin story" movie.

I would’ve preferred to see that guy who played Snake Eyes play Shang Chi, or maybe that kid from Ninja Assassin - I want my comic characters to look cool, first and foremost. Wenwu and Xialing, at least in your picture there, definitely check those boxes though.

Maybe that happens for everyone that’s really into something - I hate using the whole casual vs. real fan thing, because who really gives a shit - but I feel like we all have these random obscure characters nobody else really gives a shit about, but we’d go all-in given the chance to make a figure line. For me, it’s stuff like the aforementioned 70s Shang Chi lineup, or the REAL Nick Fury and all his crazy secret agent gear. I’d love to see figures along the lines of Bruce Timm’s Fury artwork.

I'm not crazy about them either but I want the Guardians in my collection and I don't like to mix MCU and comic figures. Hasbro doesn't seem interested in doing new comic figures or rereleasing the box set either. Which is weird to me cause the Guardians are pretty high profile thanks to the movies. I actually think the gameplay looks like a lot of fun, the tactical combat thing they're going for seems cool and there's even spaceship dogfights. As far as I can remember, regardless of the figures that had all the gimmicks, there was red and blue Spidey, black suit Spidey, and a variant on the red and blue with more of a dark red and navy, that glowed in the dark. Venom also got both a purple and a black variant of the same figure, and THEN got an additional purple one with glow in the dark features. The glow in the dark stuff unfortunately wasn’t really advertised on the back of the box or the little booklets each figure came with, but I remember them. I think they were Target exclusive maybe.

Interesting, sucks there are so much of these 5'5'' Venoms I can't exactly separate them. From the purple ones there are at least 3 versions, one where there metal stuff glows in the dark but not much, one which apparently has a more potent glow.

I can say that the one you posted here, with the “capture web” was the super articulated venom they kept making variants of. There were others, of course, but they all had some kind of gimmick. So that web accessory should help you know that you’re at least looking at the correct figure itself.

They’ve barely done comic versions of the ones that were actually in the movie. That box set that’s so highly desired barely passes in my book.
Star Lord is fine.
Rocket is basically a statue.
Groot is on the movie body with a comic head, and, while passable, I’d like the see the uniformed version
Gamora is fine as well; although it’s not her guardian colors, she’s in her Annihilation outfit and her multiple heads make up for it.
Drax is in his modern outfit for no reason, and his non-gauntlet hands can’t hold his larger knives, only the MCU ones he also comes with. Dud of a figure.

So personally I think we need redos of all of them, although Gamora and Star Lord could easily just be rereleases. Unfortunately if we get any comic Guardians figures with Guardians 3, it’s unlikely to be more than one or two members of the team, and they’ll likely be wearing a classic outfit or a modern one, not the DnA outfits.

There's surprisingly very little info about this era of figures even thought he internet and Marvel Legends fandom was in dull swing at the time. People were so upset Hasbro went with 5'' for the SM3 line they chose to ignore it unfortunately. They were some neat figures though.

Agree, the figures have a neat articulation from what I could see in random reviews. The web plastic seems fun to play with and the special features some of them showed, such as pic related having GiTD eyes and teeth.

I definitely had one Spidey from this wave but it's been so long since I lost him. If only there was a different review of each type and what differences them aside from colors / weapons.

Personally I use the shield from the latest Marvel Select Cap with my 80 Years Steve. It's slightly bigger than the one 80th Cap came with which always felt too small for me and the reds even match. It uses rubbery straps that are similar to the MCU ones which allows it to slide in and off pretty easily.

Cool. I've ben leaning towards getting the 20th since my collection is starting to become more comic based and I've had the Civil War figure as my default Cap. I've watched a few youtube videos and the consensus seems to be "hands and feet pegs will snap when you swap them," plastic quality/QC is not as good, and he's marginally smaller.

Fuck that, $30 is hard to beat when the next best option is "comic paint" for $100 more.

The other issue is that you'll have to remove and sand down some of the tentacles. The majority are pegged into the pack (which you'll have to fill), but there's a few molded on.

Going with Hulk will be much easier in the long run if you're just looking for a standard, big body.

Unfortunately nobody but us cares about cosmic especially the classic Guardians characters. X-fags and Spider-fags make up the majority of the collecting audience with Avengers and FF following. That's not too surprising considering the comic demographics. But that said it's a little weird to me that Hasbro will do multiple waves related to 20 year old X-Men storylines like Age of Apocalypse... but it takes forever to get classic/definitive versions of headlining Avengers and FF characters. I mean I know AoA is a "classic" storyline (ugh) but is there really that kind of demand for relatively niche versions of these characters?
Anyway I doubt we'll ever get a complete Guardians 3000 team (maybe Yondu) let alone 70s versions of the modern iteration. But if we do I'll gladly eat my hat.

Yep, I’ve always been into the weirder characters - was big into Morbius (the Wagner run) and The Nightstalkers as a kid, though I suppose they were relatively popular at that time, maybe. Now we have a 90s Morbius in his leathers, and his face is pretty goofy.

It’s like look at all the Wolverines/Logan’s they’ve released - would it kill them to base one of them on his sculpt from one of the popular storylines?

It’s a shame too, because there are some really talented artists out there that it boggles my mind why they aren’t hired by Hasbro for this line; every figure would be a best seller.

I've got the shield from the age of Ultron cap on mine, the flared glove cuffs help hold it securely in the rubber arm straps, it's also larger and doesn't have the extra details on the star that other MCU shields have, so it doesn't look out of place.

Totally agree. It’s maddening considering how many variations they’ve released. The whole bug-eyed, spaces too far apart look is something that has kept me away from many ML figures; they’ve been getting better - I just got my 5Pack in and the Wolverine heads in that are a great step in the right direction. I plan on repainting the battle damaged one without the damage.

They should stick with whoever is sculpting the recent heads, whether it’s that Paul Harding guy or whoever. It’s very apparent with the Mastermind figure in that pack; the true face is very well done, whereas the younger face is the standard wide set eyed sculpt.

Anyways, I’ve got one of the Logan heads from the guy who did that digisculpt above, it’s much nicer in person than this quick photo.

That does look good (do you have a link?). But again my issue is having to paint the skin. Even if I did the best job in the world or commissioned someone to paint it and it turned out amazing, it'd still bug me because of the difference between the skin on the neck or arms and the face.

For sure. The damaged head seems like it could be stripped and repainted as a normal head. The damage is mostly paint apps, and where it is sculpted, for the cuts, they aren’t very deep at all.

What's everyone's opinion on the new retro 2099? Is it worth upgrading from the original? The only real con for me (aside from the pizza spidey body) is the limited range on the torso, whereas the original 2099 has much better ab crunch.

I bought the Endgame Cap that didn't come with Mjolnir that came in stock a few weeks ago and gave him my Endgame Thor's hammer. Cap is the same exact body as Worthy, and Thor still has Stormbreaker. So even if they ever release Worthy again at some point I can thankfully just pass on it.

Idk about demand for AoA. The first wave sold okay, but it also hit clearance, which is a little unusual for most waves these days. I admittedly recognize that the designs appeal to a lot of folks because of the old Toybiz toys, and I bought the waves myself, but you’re right about avengers and FF. I’m excited to finally get the blue and white uniform FF, but as far as classic Avengers and Byrne-era X-Men, we are severely lacking. I still really would love to see classic versions of Falcon, Wonder Man, Mockingbird, Ms. Marvel, etc. DnA Guardians are also high up on my list, but while I expect to see classic avengers eventually (especially with the new Cap, Tigra, Hercules, etc.) I don’t count on new Guardians in any significant capacity. For every classic character we got for GotG2 like Adam Warlock, we got MCU versions of every character with no comic version to speak of.

Honestly it’s decent. The finish on the old one is better but the new one has the hands which makes up for it. I REALLY wish he had gotten a redo on the 2099 body or the Retro body. It would’ve just been new forearms and a new head. Slam dunk, but I guess it’s easier to just rerelease the old one. I always imagined 2099 as more bulky compared Peter Spidey. So I wish they’d just use the bulkier body for his classic look, it’s a shame it’s confined to the white body, but maybe that will change in the future.

If you have the old one I'd say no. A matte finish wasn't the right move, and it's on the same body, so the only upgrade is a new set of hands. If you didn't have the old one, this new one beats seeking out that one at what it's currently going for, but that's it.

Finally opened Walgreens Punisher and surprisingly I'm liking the figure. It's a shame it's really the only option for a classic version in ML, though, and likely to stay that way for a long time.

Yeah, he's good. Especially if you consider him an "older" Frank, with the receding hairline and stuff. He comes with some nice weapons. The only complaint I have it the skull emblem on his chest seems off. The rounded eye holes in the skull just looks wrong for the Punisher, and even though it's supposed to be based on Kill Krew Punisher it doesn't match the skull in the comic, so you can't even blame that. It's weird.

I dont even know who made the sculpt, it just looks Japanese as hell.

If it's Mafex this makes no sense since I have a bunch of Mafex and love them, but this is clearly Japanese inspired and it's really funny you're so upset someone is saying that.

Not really upset to be honest. But this one just sticks out as not really all that anime. On other hand, I think the headsculpt for the Mafex Hush Superman is a bit too "anime," even though I own that figure and think it's okay.

I really liked the Walgreens Punisher when it came out, so much better than previous offerings. The even more classic look of the retro Punisher is my favourite though. I like him with the Epic Heroes head. It's a bit undersized but I love how bulky it makes him look.
I don't think I'll even need another ML Frank at this point. Though I wouldn't say no to one that looked like he did in the 90's Spider-Man cartoon.

Mine has the trigger fingers too but you could easily take an exacto knife to your Walgreens punisher and give him trigger fingers. I did it myself.

So, Fan-Channel exclusives are exclusives that won't be limited to a specific retail store, but rather online stores like BigBadToyStore, Amazon, DorkSide, Pulse, etc. So, they're still incredibly easy to get, despite not being found at Target, Walgreens, Walmart, etc.

Along with what that other anon mentioned, Fan Channel also includes physical retailers like Gamestop, EB Games, Best Buy, FYE, and other such boutique type shops. The previous comic Cap, the Marvel 80th Anniversary one, was a Walmart exclusive, was annoying to track down at release, and costs a ton on the aftermarket. This release being a Fan Channel must be Hasbro trying to make up for the last one.
