I'm a big fan of these fellas, but I'm starting to lose hope that they'll ever make a comeback. The secondhand market is pretty scarce and gets more and more so every month. What happened to them?

They were too good a value at like $30 a figure. Nendroids have taken over at 70-80 dollars for a smaller, worse figure with less articulation.

Not all nendos are 60-70 though, a lot still sit at the 30 - 40 range.

Doesn't exactly matter for a chibi anyway but nendos have good range most of the time and have a lot of swapable parts when they are limited

They had a good thing going for a while but they succumbed to the usual thing companies do of not utilizing the full extent of character selection that their licenses gave them.

Never released a Madokami, Devil Homura or Nagisa for their Madoka Magica line. Never took opportunity to make Shinji or Kaworu for their Eva line. The list goes on and on.

How do we know they were allowed to make all characters within a license? Sometimes some characters or certain things are prohibited, like how NECA was told by Toho that they could not put out GvK figures in stores until after playmates due to the movie release, and then the movie obviously kept getting delayed

This could be a part of the reason, but there was other factors, I remember that in late 2018 and early 2019 the planned releases were hitted by heavy delays, Koto never explained this, I guess it had something to do with the Chink factories, or the cost of production of figures in general
Other reason that someone mentioned back then was that the Frame Arms Girl and Megami Device lines were doing much better than the cu-poche line, so maybe Koto decided to concentrate their effort in these lines and the poches got the short straw

What piss me off is instead of this they do multiple recolors for Gourai and some ot the other FAG poches intead of finish the regular characters first
This happen again with the Idolm@ster line, they didn't complete the cast and instead redid the 3 of the main girls in a more recent and boring outfit
And when Koto did Fate nendos they choose characters that already have nendos instead of doing servants than haven't made in chibi form
Then instead of doing a Kemono Friends poches, all they did was 2 fabric clothes sets for Kaban and Serval
No making Shinji, Mari, Misato or Kaworu in poche form was a fatal mistake too
We never got more Girls und Panzer poches, no Kei, Naomi or Alisa, No Assam or Rosehip, None of the Baka Chi-ha-tans either
Truly the person in charge of this line was a fucking idiot

to be fair by the time GSC announced the nendo dolls, the poches were already like six month or more than the line was silent with no news and announcements
So, hardly we can consider that the reason of the decline of poches were the nendo dolls

It is very popular to use Obitsu 11 bodies and Nendoroid heads if you would like an alternative. The clothes should fit and there are lots of Obitsu 11 clothing options, too. Hope this helps.
