>>9388653I kind of see that as more of this whole thing being in the "death throes" so to speak coupled with an extreme case of "sunk-cost fallacy" and I know that's been said before but I see it like this:
Imagine being any of these companies/corporate bodies and you just wasted 10+ years of your own resources (mainly MONEY) trying to follow some bullshit thing that some obvious scam artist convinced you would keep you in touch with future generations thus guaranteeing more resources (MONEY). Imagine none of that actually sticks and the only things that keep you afloat are things that don't do that stuff but because they're not the priority you're not wasting your (MONEY) on them.
At least in regards to Marvel/DC it's been proven that they actively lose money on this shit and it's why certain people in charge of both companies are trying so hard to push it until they realistically can't do it anymore and it has nothing to do with ideology or socio-political bullshit that's just a cover to hide the fact that they just want money like anyone else they just though going along with this shit would guarantee it. And it's obvious it doesn't stick since they keep trying to do so for the past DECADE, not to mention all the bullshit Netflix has been getting involved with recently
The way I see it a lot of groups are pushing harder simply because they're aware it can't go anywhere else and are basically in maximum cope mode, they know the ship is sinking but are trying to put corks in all the cannon sized holes and tell you "No no this is fine"
Obviously it's not a guarantee but this desperate behavior feels like the kind of thing you see when someone knows they're going to lose but can't accept it
tl;dr It might not happen absolutely but the harder push is coming from a desperate place by corporations that don't want to admit they wasted large amounts of their resources trying to stay afloat in an ever-changing world and this is the first time they've had to face that
