According to these life long collecting toy industry experts parents do not go into the big stores to purchase toys for their kids' friends. That is according to these experts is reserved only for the parents' kids. Is there a way that retailers can encourage parents to shop in their stores for more toys?

I then go out and buy the kid a 20-30 item. Happens regularly since I have a few nieces and nephews, friends with kids, and as my kid gets older I completely expect to get gifts for their friends when he goes to parties too. A gift card for a kid under 9 or 10? Fuck that, unwrapping something is fun.

We'd always tell each other what to get for our Bdays and my parents would always ask me what to get him.
Never got anything i didn't want, apart from the stupid kids forgetting to tell their parents they had a bday to be at and just getting something on the way to the party

Yeah I got plenty of toys I didn't really want as a kid, but I still put on a happy face and was grateful because the person cared enough to take time out their day and got me something. and hey, sometimes I got some interesting stuff I wouldn't otherwise.

As expected mostly a nothingburger with a lot of Vala self promotion. Those two idiots were so bored to not even realize that Vala said most of what Scott already did. However i agree with him that his data are obsolete: the collector market is bigger than it was pre 2014. It's enough for big box companies to take notice and request exclusives, but not for them to invest in proper stocking allocation outside of the toy isles ghetto, IE the place where usually stores didn't even have a dedicated manager. This is obviously detrimental and led to the jumbled messes we have seen in the past years when certain exclusives are almost impossible to find. This doesn't work very well with Micheal's "WE WANT ALL AND NOW" that doesn't take in account the limitations of the market and assume that corps have endless money and power that transcend physical reality and they just don't want to use it. The case of the Amazon exclusive cited by Vala is emblematic in what happens when a big company throw you under the bus, not matter if you are Hasbro. Obviously some gratuitous insult against Scott paid Vala's ticket and made Micheal happy. That's it. Honesty i have some respect for Vala despite having a marketing based on the idea that everything he is doing is perfect, but at least he admitted that the AF line didn't left the factory yet for the most part. Then again i am a realist and i see a fucked up world in which large delays are par for the course.

Scott's math on 30 kids in a class therefore parents buy 30 toys for 30 classmate birthday parties a year is laughable. No kid gets invited to and goes to every birthday party for every kid in their class. Nor does it guarantee they'd buy a toy for them rather than something else. The example is flawed on its face. Gift giving will definitely make up a portion of toy buys but its not 30 toys per parent per year
