Limited production + scalpers. DX Chogokin VF-1s are actually not that expensive at msrp - around $200 for a toy this detailed is a steal. But they become sold out very quickly and are sold for twice as much on a secondary market.

Super and Strike packs are online exclusives and are even more rare.

It's not like that recent Masterpiece Starscream that has msrp of $250 and can still be easily found for that much because it was produced in larger numbers.

Obviously scale was inconsistent in the G1 cartoon, but despite the fact I initially thought he was a bit big as well, Jetfire does appear to be a head and shoulder taller than the Dinobots. My beloved Legends Jetfire might actually be a bit small.

They're certainly no DX Chogokin or Yamato/Arcadia stuff, but a lot of the newer model kits aren't bad. They'll all need a lot of work, some of those Delta designs terrify me with all the decals, but I've genuinely enjoyed all the V.F.Gs I've built. Kinda wish they released the VFs by themselves, they make for pretty good Gerwalks.

The cheapest Valks you can get are Hi-Metal VF-1s. Those usually sit in the $110-150 range, I don't think I've ever seen them for anything less.
I got my VF-4 for about $130-140.
If you want a decent transforming Macross toy you'll never find one below $100 unless it's broken.
Do yourself a favor and drop a little more cash, you won't regret it, most of these figures are truly worth it.

I will genuinely never understand why people like FT Phoenix. All the appeal is in him being a big toy of Skyfire. Everything else is so butt ugly with none of the shapes actually working. Siege Jetfire is also rough, but at least it captures the 'shit make it look different' cartoon design in a much better way.
