Icons died because of poor sales. That's it.
Not sure if they upscaled their 1:12 Jim Balent Icons canceled sculpt, but the Essentials Catwoman is remarkably close, albeit using the generic female body.
fake edit: I shouldn't say poor sales. It was rather that they expected higher sales, because that was the only way to fund the Icons line because of all the unique sculpts and greater amount of articulation that was given to them.
Essentials was DCC changing gears so that they budget fit what they were actually sold. So less articulation and mold reuse.
