The reference is obviously there, it's based on the fucking book. The art style is not similar. It looks better or worse depending on what your preference is, but they do look more "human" in the animated adaptation.

Icons started going up in price a two or two ago, so they bought up all the later releases which go for insane prices. Now the earlier stuff is going up in price as well, when some of them were able to be bought at clearance prices.

Just buy shit now before you doubly regret it when they double and triple in cost a year from now.
I had thought McFarlane releasing stuff would ahve driven down prices, but nope. Had hoped the same shit with GI Joe, with 6" at least drawing attention away from 1:18 and Walmart re-releases also driving down prices, but nope.

I'm glad i supported the Icons line as it was coming out, because even the loose shit is expensive as fuck.

Don't we always get new sculpts for new characters? Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman got totally different sculpts for almost every incarnation now if the costumes were significantly different. Why would classic Supes and Red Son get different bodies when they're virtually the same character?

Only reuse I can think of is the Hal Jordan sculpt because it was literally John Stewart with a different head and colour. At least the accessories were different with those.

Also, I never feel like reusing sculpts is a bad thing (even with Hasbro) if the characters wear tights. If we're talking about suits with different materials etc., that's a whole other topic. To me, it seems that people like to bitch and moan about Hasbro and McFarlane for mundane reasons way too often.

The DC Icons JL figures (solo figures, not the 7-pack) have pretty decent articulation. The McFarlane ones seem to be going back and forth with the articulation. The sculpts often seem to be fucking with the articulation which is weird. It's essential for characters like Superman or Flash to have a really good articulation because they're unposeable otherwise but McFarlane doesn't seem to realise this most of the time. On the other side you have Hasbro making shit-tier sculpts which have great articulation. It's like fans can't get a good inbetween at all, at least not for under 30 bucks.

People shrink during their lifecycle due to aging and spinal vertebrae being fused over time

Death Metal Batman is from late in a multiverse cycle year-wise, and that is why he is shorter than The Batman who is younger in his multiverse. Frank Miller Batman is from even later in his timeline so he has shrunk a bit more. The only possible error I can see there might be AffleckBatman if he is supposed to represent a later year Batman which I thought AffleckBatman was.

Each figure in the double packs has gotten a single release, but with a change: single regular Superman, angry 2pack Superman; single smiling Flash, angry 2pack Flash. When it comes to GL it is entirely possible they are counting John and Hal as variants, so we already got the single and the double.
