HOWEVER, during Titans Return, Hjasbro decided to retool their planned headmaster Astrotrain as Sentinel Prime AND release him first before Astrotrain. And for added shits and giggles, told IDW they had to shill the toy/character in the comics since fans didn't really want Sentinel and that there was major backlash that he was getting released before Astrotrain proper.
So IDW was stuck having to retcon their lore to make Sentinel a secret Headmaster (complete with scene where Megatron finds out that his body was found headless after Megatron killed him). And since IDW was in the process of going full pozzed, they made Sentinel a Trump stand-in who wanted to enslave Cybertron with a horde of Titan cities he had taken control over.
Adding to this, IDW got pissy that fans LIKED this Trump-lite version of Sentinel, so first chance they could they killed him off. But when they had to reboot shit, they were forced by Hasbro to make Sentinel less Trumpy and more heroic and good because they were sick of Ryall and his cronies bullshit killing their sales as badly as they did.
