Who's getting the new MoMo's model kits?

The MoMo line were gynoid robot line made by the now dead Original Effect company, Optune, the creator of the series have been planning reviving the figures as model kits with a kickstarter and now is the first two models are getting a mass release

The price seems quite fair, especially for "18.5cm" of model kit. I'd almost want the red and black one, but the heads on these aren't all that appealing to me. I did like some of those past designs they've showed, so if that happens, I might be interested, but I think for now I'll pass.

As someone who owned a few of the original figure releases, I can't say I'm super enthusiastic about this.

First off, these pics are certainly of a highly polished, finished product crafted by a professional modeler.

Glamour shots like this never look as good as anything amateurs or even a figure right out of the box does. Not from Bandai or Koto or Wave or anyone.

And we don't even KNOW who is actually producing these kits, which has every potential to go horribly awry.

The original momo figures were very poorly made, poorly painted, and thoroughly underwhelming, especially compared to their promo shots. So forgive me if I take a cynical view of these new products.

I've pre-ordered both, it seems like they're being produced by the same people that did the kickstarter and the response to them seemed good, there are some unpainted photos on Optune's twitter too and those look pretty nice, imo.

This definitely seems pretty nice for an out of the box build. Parts separation looks decent so the metallic parts shouldn't be hard to paint.

It's a bit of a shame that the weapons are so underwhelming but they're not really the draw here. Would have been great to have some differentiation between the two, though. Nothing stopping me from just buying two whites and painting one up red instead.

I hope this means we'll finally see the more crazy designs. I bought one of the airline stewardess figures way back when which arrived with a broken knee in the tube, somehow. I tried to get a replacement joint or leg from OE and they said they would send me one, I gave them all the info and then they never responded. The fact that they are a model kit now actually makes me feel a bit better about them, since this means I'll have less of a chance of receiving it broken, and possibly will be much better weighted because the originals were pretty heavy.

Fucking lmao. They're barely even painted. On the white one, for example, it's just gold paint over the gold plastic and panel lines on white, then a black gundam marker with a cotton swab to achieve the gradient effect. It seems like it actually takes shockingly little effort to make these girls look fantastic. You should have no problem achieving this 'highly polished, finished product' look, even if you're an amateur.

Man, I must've been lucky as fuck.
My old military version MoMo had absolutely no flaws and is still in perfect condition.
Only things that always bothered me were the krooked lower legs but apparently that's supposed to be by design.

Honestly yeah I wanted to say this, not to butt heads with anyone but there's actually tons of twitter posts from Japanese guys who got theirs in the period after the funding drive, so it's easily possible to know what these MoMos look like straight OOB.

The MoMo plamo/model kit looks really nice and being a model kit means that you can customize her colors palette is you want, and add weapons accessories from other models
It will be a pleb filter and that's great

Here's some videos showing her off. This is the limited edition black/white/silver version that the backers of the kickstarter campaign got. It's unpainted but it does a good job conveying her scale and articulation.

Also in the instruction manual it's got pictures of different hair styles, as well as some of the old monstrous design. So hopefully if this first run is successful we might see them again in the future.

I mean yours is literally missing paint aps and replaced metallic paint with flat grey in the final product, but a lot of them had pretty good paint aps, like the bee and the bunnies.
Their joints needed a lot of extra work to not be a floppy mess though.

I guess it will be inevitable that the company making these will release the vanilla figs first, they need to see if the basic figs sell well enough to make the more complex ones next
At least the price for these momos is low compared to other model kits usual price, so if theSquid and the Octupus (or any other in that regard) gets released, the price won't be all that outrageous IMO

Yeah I ordered 1 of each colour, but I'm considering doubling up on 1 to have one for play and one for a full repaint. It's tempting since the price is pretty good.

It's actually still there, the feet themselves are just designed differently. The joint plugs into the front of the foot instead of the back like on the OE MoMos, which is probably a part of why these MoMos have more conventional looking feet. This is from one of the Youtube reviews.

Overall, the new foot arrangement seems pretty okay for normal human posing but won't quite allow for some of the crazy acrobatics the originals could pull off. I liked the more blunt-footed design but it's an okay trade if we can get decent figures for it.

If I had more old photos with me or if /toy/'s archive went back far enough I'd show you, but MoMos have always been extremely articulated and well-balanced (assuming the joints worked) even back during the Original Effect releases.

I don't think so, these being model kits and having a really affordable price means that people can customize/paint these basic figs adding weapons and parts from other kits and kitbashing your own MoMo, without wasting all that much money compared to buying a higher price fig
About the QC issues, let's hope that people in charge of making this new series don't do fuck ups with them

Probably not much point keeping the thread alive any more. Pretty sure preorders are closed and we've basically exhausted all possible dialog regarding these gals. If people can keep coming up with new pics to show or topics to discuss then by all means continue, but if the thread is gonna peter out, I'd say just let it.
