are they a young kid who will lose small pieces? get them a crappy LOL one which has big bright furniture pieces with all the small details printed on the wallpaper (like in your picture)
for even more irresponsible kids, get them an even bigger/more expensive 1:12 scale one (bratz, barbie, etc).
are they a responsible kid/adult? then a calico critters one that comes with tiny pieces like spatulas and individual plates at a 1:24 scale is better and more fun
