I gots all the micros aside from Ratbat/Rumble and the 10-pack/etc stuff. They are really fun, aside from big-shoulder cars they're all quite a blast, and the car ones at least have neat altmodes.

I'm the anon who asked, after ignoring them for two years, I was thinking of picking up the regular retail micromasters since they're all still easy to find cheap online. Guess they shelfwarmed bad.
Got a sudden hankering for some tiny bots and they do have great alt modes, especially Daddy-O, who has the best fucking name of any transformer.

They could've done the same with roadrage(they also could've added new thighs like the MP on Roadrage). Honestly If they're not going to bother making them have any trace of female proportions, then why even do female repaints? I just want a Roadrage that looks like the one in picrel. And a female looking Tyrannocon would be cool too.

but I can tell you I have very special feelings for Insecticon, razorbeast, armordillo, snapper, razorclaw, and claw jaw
powerpinch is really surprisingly great and I like him more every time I look at him, and I really wish I had sea clamp and primalbat.
and guys like iguanus, ramhorn, cybershark, wolfang, spittor, cicadacon, gatormegs, jetstorm, bonecrusher, and polar claw could have been fucking fantastic with just a few tweaks.
manterror, ironhide, b'boom, and prowl need to be remade from the ground up but they're good concepts.

hell I'm surprised we never get heavy retools of classic toys. Japan does a lot of heavy repaints, even of toys that are too flawed to be worthy of that much work, but usually instead of severe retooling we just get completely new toys that have their own new flaws and limits.. I'd like to see like, the next time we have an equivalent of Generations, just bust out some old molds with new modified parts to make them distinctly new characters. people will find that really neat. and with beast wars it's particularly doable since the robot and animal parts are often so separate.

Initially I was going to get just Stakeout and thought micros were lame and gay. Who'd want tiny unhelpful randos? But I was gifted the air strike patrol from /co/'s santa thing and I was like, "eh I guess I'll try some more micros now and then, but I'm only getting Stakeout and the battle squad". But yikes they're all so fun, and full of personality. Topshot and Flak are really great as >>9407951 said- th-that is not Flak..
Anyway uh, the hot rod patrol did feel a bit weak, but the cars are very fun- you can also flip up the hood bit and pretend the 5mm pegs are guns, something which most micromasters are so severely in need of. Guess that's still the one thing that bothers me about them.

so I'll probably have them wrestle or bully/play amongst each other separately, as their own little tribe. Race track patrol defected from the Autobots in some canon, and they don't have faction symbols. So you can pretend they were (or still are?) with the race car patrol, but defected, and hecking Daddy-O split off from the race car patrol in protest. Micromaster politics!

I’d say anything besides the siege race car patrol is good to buy. I personally really like Bombshock, Powertrain, Flak, and basically every decepticon patrol member besides the siege cars (even though Growl is kinda weak)

I really like it too anon. My one problem with is the lack of the arm Tail Pincer thing.

Sakamoto canonized them as micromasters who were exposed to plasma energy on planet micro. This kind of mutated/evolved them into minicons and they can now also transform into weapons for normal size bots

There's a panel in the Legends web manga vol 19 with Hot Rod and other micromasters when Groundshaker explains his abilities to Tailgate.
This was expanded in LG-EX Big Powered Prologue Pt 1, when Groundshaker and Phaser join the micromasters defending Zone Base and explain my first post

In the G1 cartoon you can see 3 of the 5 engines in just about every episode in the first 2 seasons, but with only 4 engines it looks wrong to have 3 displayed because more of the ship is left sticking out than what should be. Plus if I'm going to pay over $150 for a toy of the Ark I expect it to be an accurate representation.

I fucking love the shattered glass concept. It’s different enough and definitely has some fun repaints.

I'd probably like Pretenders if they redid them. Basically, have the Inner robot now be normal sized and a with improved vehicle modes, but also make them Headmasters. The Pretender is a core sized figure with most of the necessary articulation and you just shove the Headmaster into the Pretender.

I always had the same idea, pretty much what you can do with the TR and PotP metalhawks only with a bigger more posable shell. Maybe have the shell transform into a couple of armor bits to give the main bot a bit of the theme of the shell.

there is literally no way to have pretender shells in today's market. Just imagine them doing huge hunks of plastic in Voyager scale with dinky Sout/Core/Legends inner robot. The last thing we got were those half-assed Prime Masters.

ROTF Bludgeon was an incredibly well received toy and Bludgeons since then have all looked the same - tank with a robot-skeleton-samurai altmode. I see no reason why they shouldn't follow suit with the rest of the team. Better to ignore the gimmick whiners and make toys people will actually buy. If the autists want their shells they can go to third parties for them.

Ideally, they'd come together in a voyager box to avoid any trouble. Even if they're sold seperately, the shell would could still be sold by itself without the head, and all the new Headmaster using pretenders figures would be compatible with the shells (though, selling them in a set would be ideal since the shell would just be a normal non-transforming figure by itself).

I see a lot of problems with it, though. For one, a lot of people aren't going to be fans of the shell designs being smaller than the classic inner bot designs, and that's not even getting into the fact a lot of people already won't be fans of turning non-Headmasters into Headmasters. Even if that's not a factor, most of the inner bots had such bland designs all you'll end up with is a cool core class you have to overpay for because it's stuck with a boring deluxe figure. And most importantly, not all Pretenders fit in that template. Gunrunner's "shell" was just a big car that half his alt-mode stuck onto as a turret. All of the Beasts' shells were just larger, more organic forms of their regular alt-modes.

You could have them split into accessories like weapons or armor. Like a bludgeon shell could split into some samurai style shoulder armor and a helmet.

I've been indulging in MOTU lately.
I think they should just go balls in with pretenders and play them straight to G1.
Give us a core class transformer. Small, but gets the point across.
Package them with a Deluxe size shell. Core class transformer can fold up and store in the shell's chest.This would give the shell fully posable arms, legs, head, and waist, since everything is stored just in the torso.
Deck out the shell with plenty of 5mm ports and call it a day.

Yeah, in a way it does make the robot pointless, but it also means you get more playability (though, this sort of applies if the head is inside the shell, since the deluxe won't have a head, not a problem in American fiction, but a huge one in Japanese fiction).

I believe everyone who thinks this forgets the last time it was done with basically unlimited budget and still sucked ass. Shells are naturally going to be terrible, awful figures because you can't have any torso articulation, and the inner bot is also going to suck because they're not gonna bother making a good alt-mode and probably not a robot mode for something that's just fulfilling a gimmick. Which was as retarded then as it would be now. All of the shells are too silly to be believable as any sort of disguise, and associated fiction does not justify poor gimmicks no matter how good the writing is. The fiction isn't what makes the transformation gimmick of transformers work, it's the fact transformation is fun and interesting. The inner robot should at least incorporate into the shell's visuals somehow, even if it's just like how some of the PotP ones did where the robot's face peaked out of a visor.

I would argue there being a point to sticking the inner robot into the shell in the first place would get you more playability, rather than just having two standalone figures where you can decide to stick one inside the other if you feel like it. That's the issue, there's no point to inserting the inner bot. You get no benefit from it except an inability to play with the inner robot for the time its inside the shell. You could throw the bot away and you lose basically no play factor with the shell figure. Compare it to a Headmaster where your robot won't have a head if you toss the smaller one.

Im thinking the shells are articulated like MOTU origins figures. The actual transformer would be able to fit in the chest. Maybe even BE the chest plate.

Two of my favorite toys I got as a kid were just Pretender shells - not the inner robots, just the shells - and even with that I say ditch the shells. Most people with Pretenders probably only played with the shells anyway so just turn the shells into the robot modes and give them vehicle modes. Vehicles that turn into monsters is an interesting enough concept without the intermediary step of having a boring robot mode nobody cares about shoved in there.

Why couldn't they just make articulated shells with opening limbs that would fit around a core bot? Sure the articulation wouldnt be amazing when the core bot was in but there's no reason it's impossible.

woolly rhinos need to be in things more often. and not just the standard regular ones, there's other types. You know Elasmotherium is the size of a fucking elephant? and his horn could totally become a believable sword unlike a lot of gimmicky beast mode swords.
speaking of beast mode weapons, I find myself often wanting a Monster Hunter style jousting lance with a shield, and the sad thing is it could work great as some animal's tail, but t hen that tail would have to be... locked perfectly straight, like Dinobot's. very awkward.

It's just hugely important and often missed that arthropod legs need to be clustered pretty closely together and on the underside of the body in order to look right. you can screw with almost everything else.

For me it's that TLK Megatron(dragoon?), or MMC Orion Pax(Optus Pexus). Both are impressive for different reasons.

EXO-SQUAD! Unquestionably one of the best toylines of the 90s. The show was cool too as I recall. I haven't seen it since I was a kid but it was the first American cartoon I remember watching that followed a long narrative ark through the whole season. They'd even kill off some main characters occasionally, which still almost never happens in cartoons.

However, expect to pay out the ass for it, around $800-1000 bucks for it as it is one of the most highly sought after/desired Botcon pieces.

Luckily, if you can get the Engergon/Cybertron version of it cheaper and while the Energon version has garrish colors, the Cybertron version is done up in Black Zarak colors and can pass as a voyager sized stand-in for that version of Scorponok

Depends on the design. Obviously organic and technorganic get an advantage here (as the Beast Machines Lion mold got some love a few threads ago), but there's ways to do it. Wires and cables ala the movie designs could be used, or there's the option to have head "kibble" that evokes it. For instance, G1 Mirage from other angles has his vehicle parts line up in a way that make it look like he has long hair.

The large shoulder pads meant you need to have something to offset the heavy upper body but instead using the siege crotch/legs they used ER prime that already give the cut off torso vibe with ER prime

It would help if they add a slight longer piece at the end of the crotch

Tr had wrong colored biceps, hands, incorrect chest window shape, shoulder shape, fake truck engine shoulders, trailer built in so no base mode at all, and a terrible shade of blue who's sole purpose was to differentiate from the regular optimus version of the same mold, which wasn't even prime, but octane.

Yeah I found the two of them at a yard sale as a kid and they became two of my favorite toys. I didn't know what they were for years, as G1 was before my time and I didn't get into Transformers as a whole until college.

My other favorite as a kid was Retrax who is also kind of a meme

It's been a while since I've collected any Transformers "figures"/"cars". Some of the newer ones look wicked. Being that you guys would know what's decent and what's crap, what are your suggestions for someone wanting to get back into the line again? Sorry for having to be one of the asking douchebags but Transformers have had some great shit as well as some real shit. I used to go to YouTube and check reviews but so many of the reviewers now get their figures delivered free, it's annoying as fuck to give them views when they basically cuck for free shit. Now collectors who hunt, buy their own shit and love the hobby, I'd rather get opinions from them straight up over a Shartamus Prime. Thanks for any info.

Who were your fave characters? Emgo's reviews are consistent in their format, albeit he's a bit of a "you'll either love him or hate him" kinda guy, but I found his reviews useful and his cheer infectious. Micromasters are fun if you can still find them for cheap, SS86 has some great figures like Hot Rod, Kup if you don't mind his face, Grimlock, and Vertebreak in the Kingdom line has been frequently praised and loved.

They probably are, the just need to make sure the legs can extend to that length for truck mode while keeping all the other proportions similar. The finished version would hopefully have the thighs collapse a bit into the lower leg for normal proportions. All that aside, we'll probably pay so much for them that we're better off getting a third party Black Convoy.

I'd be fine with just adding some articulation to the G1 Pretender shells, give them shoulders/elbows/wrists. The inner robot would have to be small enough to fit into the chest/stomach area though, especially if you wanted to introduce a waist joint. Core class guys could fold up small enough, I'd bet. They'll never make them though, sadly.

I'm reminded of a Gargoyles toy I had as a kid, the human dude had a metal gargoyle armor suit, and all the bits plugged into ports on the inner figure. I wonder if you could "armor up" a core class figure with enough stuff that the armored mode concealed the inner robot, so instead of a shell you'd have a pile of parts.

If you're looking for car bots, I'd suggest Siege Ultra Magnus, Earthrise Optimus Prime, and Siege Skylynx (definitely get this one - he's totally worth it). Kingdom Galvatron's also good, but there's a small chance that you might get one with incorrectly assembled shoulders (just flip them around if you do - no need to pry them apart and reassemble them like some other anons have done). SS86 Cyclonus is pretty great, too.
If you're a Beast Wars/animal transformer fan, Beast Megatron is an absolute must - arguably the best Beast Wars figure to come out of the line. Optimus Primal is good, too, and the engineering on Blackarachnia to make her otherwise-impossible show transformation work is pretty incredible. Vertebreak also comes highly recommended - she's a small Core Class bot who's actually really nice for the price point. If you want to get really wild and don't mind partsforming, then grab a few of the Fossilizers (Paleotrex, Raconite, Wingfinger, Tricranius, and Transmutate. Skellivore is part of a two-pack with Kingdom Megatron). The Fossilizers' whole gimmick is that they're skeletons that break apart to form weapons and armor for the other bots in the War For Cybertron line, plugging into all of those 5mm pegs and peg holes you see covering all of the newer figures; you can also combine them with each other (or multiple copies of themselves) to make big, freaky, Dead Space-esque skeletal monstrosities - poke around the archives to see some fan configurations if you're interested.

I didn't like cars but the beast modes of Beast Beast Wars were the things that primarily attracted me, and Retrax is a cool prehistoric pill bug that had pincers and a roll-up gimmick. I basically never played with his robot mode at all.

The Monstructor shells have exposed robot covered by a backplate, so you could easily justify having the shells as the primary mode and then the robot/beast altmode just folded up as a backpack, and just invert the two for transformation

Same thing you'd do with the G1 shells I guess: nothing. After all, the shells are just the disguise, once the fighting starts they become useless. Then again one could easily argue that disguising yourselves as 40ft tall armored men and ferocious kaiju isn't the smartest tactic to innovate in the first place, but then nobody ever accused Cybertronians of having good sense.

This set was my first, followed by Iguanus, Terrorsaur, Snapper, and Razorbeast. I always wanted the original brown Polar Claw they advertised in the comic (Grizzly-1) but I eventually got Polar Claw, who was my Maximal leader to counter Retrax. I also had Claw Jaw and Razor Claw who served as my equivalent to Airrazor/BlackArachnia.

Other favorites were Power Pinch, as well as the Armadillo and the Weevil guy (I cant recall their names though.)

I didn't have anyone from the show except Waspinator and Terrorsaur even though I watched it. When Transmetals came around I only got the Fuzors and some Transmetals-2s. Besides Tarantulus, the robot animals just weren't interesting to me.

Whew, glad to hear it. With enough patience, you'll be able to get him one day. He's my fave BW character, Depth Charge might be a close second (haven't gotten to that part but I watched all the episodes/moments with him in it.. even made him a Kreon) but yeah, I'm in the same boat rooting for you. This guy was a surprise to me. Energon Slugslinger.
I didn't think much of him at first but his robot mode is great!
Vehicle mode sucks but thats mostly due to him missing some part to complete the transformation, so not his fault.

Looking for some help here.

This is the Walmart reissue Optimus Prime. I no longer have the G1 Optimus or Ultra Magnus toys that I grew up with. And I managed to pick up all of the Ultra Magnus trailer/armor through multiple eBay sales (they’re on the way). My plan was to just throw the power armor onto their Prime.

Is there any difference between the reissue Prime and the original G1 release? Or any difference between the original Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus molds?

I can't find the info in the article where I read it (which was about misconceptions and such), but looking up info on the toy directly, it seems the very very original had bigger fists and slightly differently colored and shaped parts for the gun, Roller, and some other miscellaneous parts. After those changes, there were color changes to the drone pod and Roller again, plus there were some slight differences in japan and europe (yurp got red-feet optimus for some reason) including a version that replaces all rubber and metal with plastic.. so it sounds like the only really huge change to optimus himself is the fists.

I think this assuages my anxiety. As a kid, the version of Optimus I had came with the original rifle that was kind of thin, and the large fists—not at all like the pieces that this reissue has.

And the cab wheels on the reissue has some nubs on them…I’m hopeful this thing will stay in the power armor. If not, I guess I’ll be sourcing out a Magnus cab.

Yeah, I'll never warm up to that rough, blocky style. It's not a bad art style for Transformers per se, but it doesn't work on the Beast Wars cast - they're organic, so they're all about natural curves rather than sharp geometric designs.
Also, looks like this version of Megs actually acts like him this time, unlike what they did to him in the Kingdom Netflix show.

Missed Prowl and Bluestreak, so considered him as a sad alternative. Heard some reviews and saw some photos from very kind anons here. In-hand he's a fantastic figure. Being gentle with his transparent plastic and he's nothing but a dream. I wanted a cop car to be a part of my Brave crew and he's happily working with Red Alert now, as a uhhh highway patrol or something idk.

His head/chin looks much better in person, and he's fairly posable. The little leg flaps are pretty dumb but it can be overlooked if you like the character, he's swell.

The blue guy's hood doesn't like clicking into his body for vehicle mode, but other than that, both guys didn't have many issues - the race track patrol are actually pretty swell. No faction symbols, as mentioned before. So you can have them play with the race car patrol.

I think he means that it's using the modified knee top of the car design. The V1 has the leg and top of the car hang in place, so there's a gap there, while the V2 adds slots near the knees, while the top the car has two tabs, securing everything in place once you transforms it to car mode. The funny thing is, ALL versions of the Datsun mold seem to have a V1 and V2, no idea why.

3d scanning isn't about topology, it's about getting accurate measurements. It's a reference mesh that a 3d modeler then uses when reconstructing the model.
Really, only high quality organics like people, organs, etc would use the scanned data for the final product, and that still needs cleaning

Yeah I hate that the Shieldmaster ramps are all made of translucent plastic than regular plastic. Form over Function was the mindset with them apparently and I do not like it one bit. Ironworks looks like a fun pirate, and Airwave looks like a one-eyed Metroplexy titan (even though his eyes are the other thing?). NO idea how to combine the bases together though.

What disappoints me about his is there's no real point to it if you have the original mold. Like from G1 Prime to ER Prime, the value is clear. But here, the new figure loses so much from the original to gain so little. It's got foot tilts and wrist swivels, the shoulders open up, the base has an arm, and that's pretty much it. In exchange it has wonky proportions, a smaller sword, and almost none of the original features of the trailer. The main figure also lacks many 5mm ports, meaning it barely interacts with many of the gimmicks of WfC. Like this figure is, at best, roughly as good as one from the early 90s.

I got no riders at hand for this guy, core class is too big and human alliance is too small.

He's a nice looking chopper though. A gentle blue that isn't baby blue. A green flam job so fuckers know you mean business. And comfy seat made for leaning back and relaxing as you cruise down the open road.

The engineering is so close to letting you fudge the steering but not quite. Brimstone is locked going straight ahead.

Can someone tell me why, of all kingdom deluxe toys, there seem to be a large amount of people who lost Warpath's shield? I see listings every now and then about the shield being missing, people here who lost theirs, etc...

I don't see this stuff with Paleotrex, Cheetor or BA.

Shield feels like an afterthought, so many just leave it aside and forget it exists. Then there's the fact that Warpath can still transform into a tank without it and the character isn't supposed to have accessories. Combined with the new packing methods, they probably didn't notice the shield was below the toy and threw it out. The other 3 have weapons, so people probably went looking for them before throwing out the cardboard.

My warpaths sheild is double duty- sheild and gauntlet. The tracks on the opposite arm double as a blade since i felt he needed viable close quarter options given he is a mid range warrior and could be overwhelmed face to face by a group stupid enough to try that.

Brimstone was a very different bike than Animated Prowl and he turns into a very different robot.

Bike formers tend to be a bit more lithe than most but Brimstone is straight up skeletal.
Check out the missing-his-bottom-jaw skull face with the sunken red eyes.

Kinda wish they'd just had committed to giving him buzzsaws for hands. The little baby fingers they added are just pointless.
Similarly disappointed in the legs, they're all full of that engine blocky detail, but there's just something about how all they do is unfold on one hinge at the knee(?) that's missing the flair of the upper body.

Articulation is pretty basic.
Ball joint in the shoulder, hips and neck.
Hinges in the elbows and knees.
No waist, or ankles but I'm not going to harp on an 11 year old toy for it.

Fingers can obviously be folded away if you just want buzzsaws. I just feel like there's a small tweak HasTak could have done on their end to make this the default and the presentation for it a bit better.

Overall Brimstone has great petty villain energy. He feels like he'd be on some Team Rocket type of squad.

okay here's the weird thing, that actually makes sense. I'm pretty sure there are real-life comparisons for that. there are cannons that have big shellproof shields that fold down over them so you can fire more safely, but obviously hinder your movement so you don't use them all the time.. or even just thinking about knight helmets with an extra visor with mere eyeslits when you have to REALLY block shit from hitting you. Since missiles are things that would be delicate and explode easily when hit, I could toootally see little holes they could be loaded into and fire out of, but then also open the doors to do the awesome 'fire all missiles at once' anime classic.

I amn't bothered by things like transmetal tarantulas's wheelgun because it weirdly makes sense.. it looks like an energy generator that just discharges periodically through the orbs. but i AM bothered by the one time he uses the spider-leg machineguns.. because unlike the organic spiders, this just seems like those shouldn't bend and aim easily and wouldn't have bullets routed through them, even though realistically there's MUCH more room in there for ammo belts.

yeah the flaps allow upper bicep rotation upwards, probably less than 90 though.
you can see the hinge for the cab nose don't allow for a swivel front or back.
honestly pretty weak since they borrowed engineering from ER prime.
glad i picked up gunfighter a few years back.
