Finally got Incursus and got the MMC Ruination or whatever hes called all combined up.

Incursus is real fun by himself, despite the bit shit arms hes a nice and beefy guy.

The combiner is great, got hell of a presence on the shelf, a bit of a lanky boy but very expressive, and stands up well, i dont fear him falling over.
Gonna go for the other one they are doing, the all built in gimmick is good.

Feels weird that this is something I've been desperate for since like 2015, but now that it's finally in reach, I don't actually care that much. Even knowing we're getting a Crankcase in the mainline soon, I think the appeal of this specific version of IDW Grimlock has faded over the years since the comic went downhill and all that potential was completely wasted. Probably a complete pipe dream but I really do hope that he goes on clearance in a few months, maybe get him for under $150 just to have with my Scavengers.

I felt the same getting Helex and Tesarus, but I can absolutely guarantee you they're worth it. Helex was my figure of 2020. Fantastically fun, even if his alt mode is just a giant brick with gorilla arms slapped onto the sides.

Pretty sure at that point the only thing I was buying the trades for was to tell my girlfriend how fucking insane and horrible the writing was getting, and probably some fucked up sense of sunk time fallacy. Well boys, I'm biting the bullet on FT Soundwave. I'm not a fan of the price but I grabbed my old MP Soundwave off the shelf after nearly 5 years of not touching him and after handling him again, that was the deciding factor. Aesthetically, he does it for me because I loved the old MP-10 era hybrid aesthetic but damn, his articulation did not agree well. Hips have next to no forward and back and inn order to get any outward motion, you need to pull some pretty awkward shit to make it happen without snapping the thin little twigs holding his hips to the joint. It's the only thing that bugs me but shitty hips is a pretty significant issue so it's time to replace him. Really glad FT did at least update Acoustic Wave instead of resting on a nearly decade old design, and the fact that he comes with toy accurate parts is good. I do wish they just plain did a toy version though with darker blue and silver instead of white but still, hard to not see it as an overall improvement. I'm skipping the tapes though. They don't look that great and I'm happy enough to just stick with MMC's. I don't really need them to fit in his chest.

I still like the IDW design, but I just don't really see myself buying it. FT Grinder X is pretty awesome, I don't really feel like I need another grimlock. But this dino mode is charismatic as fuck.

He's a good bit improved improved compared to some of FT's latest that try to hitch the Sunbow aesthetic. Maybe he's a sign of hope that FT could one day remember where they came from, especially because Takara looks like they might be giving up on the idea of Skids is anything to go by. But no, I hear ya. Even with the toy accurate parts but they don't wash away the toon completely. Needs just a few more greebles. Still, like I said, I can't help but feel like dark blue and silver would have gone a long way in making up for that. Still, for what it's worth he still looks good for what he is and unless we see some new up and comers on the 3p scene, I don't think anybody else is all that interested in ol' unchrasimatic Soundwave anymore.

What are you, a listfag who checks a box and is done with the character? But for real, all jokes aside, if you like a character enough, nothing wrong wing with buying multiple iterations of them in different styles and scales and just having a collection of that character. Grimlock is a guy I love to have so I'm all for having two different MP scale versions. FansToys for G1 and PX for the more modern IDW iteration to contrast him.

Assuming cost is no factor. If someone just wants a little Starscream to play around with, the Core is absolutely acceptable. I'd call him the best of the G1 inspired Core so far (haven't gotten Soundwave yet).

Yeah, they're both great in their own ways. He's a big fan of small TFs and Starscream, so I'm like "Check out Newage Lucifer" - he's like "My brain's fucking with me when I look at pics, can you send me a shot of it with the SS I just got?"
It was the same with Diaclone Reboot; I was struggling to get the scale across to him until I literally put a dianaut in his hand and now he's all in.

lol, yeah, I'm usually all about buying multiples if I feel like each toy brings something unique to my collection (I'm on my 9th Wheeljack, or something) but I'm just not THAT big of a Grimlock fan. Plus I really do just love Grinder, it's a gorgeous robot that fits in with a lot of bots in my collection.

Now, that said, if they do a G2 repaint of IDW Grimmy like >>9409095 wants, that might convince me to take a dip, because I was definitely torn between getting the blue or silver version of Grinder, and a small part of me dies whenever I shun G2.

I love how this took all the unconventional aspects of the chracter and combined it. Yellow eyes and red knees from the toy. White from the cartoon as opposed to silver. Pretty unique choices that make me want to pick it up despite being a legends chad

That's not the rendition the figure is modeled after though. He's modeled after the MTMTE version where he spends a decent chunk of time with amnesia and is effectively a pet for the scavengers. His sculpt matches more closely to the more stylized art than the earlier IDW comics.

I'm mostly into legends because CHUG is dead (though Hasbro is getting better at reviving the scale. Not perfect, but better than the dark ages of the Prime Wars Trilogy). I was never big on MPs but for specific characters I really like, I'll grab them because they can be very nice prestige pieces. Soundwave is one such character. It's just not worth the money or space to be a listfag for MPs.

I know its not the exact design I posted, but even that pic has a sharper, more fierce sculpt that the Planet X figure. The snout needs to be a hair more longer and narrow, and could use some harder detailing.

Not a bad call. I was probably gonna do the same, though I would have liked to have red/yellow eye options for both heads. I like the toy head a lot but the toon red eyes are the definitive color regardless of which aesthetic you prefer.

I also plan on keeping the toon chest. While I do like the extra mild greebling the toy parts add, the chest window is the one place where they don't add anything of value and don't look quite right. Flat window with some reprolabels (assuming they make some) is the way to go.

I'm pretty sure he's my only FT purchase, and while some parts of his transformation could be a bit more graceful, I absolutely love his aesthetic; it's clearly retro, but without being rigidly G1, and with a perfect amount of sculpted detail. He feels like the MP Grimlock that Takara would have made 7 or 8 years ago to go with MP-10.

I think it fully depends on which particular drawing of him you're looking it. Pic-related its a lot closer to what Planet X sculpted, and is probably a better indicator of what the character looks like, generally; If anything, >>9409620's pic is a bit off-model.

I mean technically that's what MP-08 is but because Takara hadn't really ironed out the MP line quite yet, they weren't making them to account for scale. Aesthetically, MP-08 does fit the same bill but he's too small, and really, if MP Grimlock had come after MP Prime, he'd probably be pretty much the same but maybe bigger. Grinder exists to replace MP-08 with the correct scale and a cleaner more finished bot mode (like the inner leg panels to hide the tail, or the two-piece wings for sculpted inner detail instead of the hollow looking single piece wings on MP-08) and at the correct scale.

But you're still effectively right in that he's the MP-08 Takara SHOULD have made.

I dunno. I was pretty sure MP-10 was the official beginning of things being "ironed out", because everything that came after was designed specifically to match it in terms of scale and aesthetic, until the great tooner shift that happened sometime later. MP-08 was an outdated design with awful gimmicks that is firmly more at home in the MP 01-09 gang, where every toy was kind of its own absurd thing.

Hell, that also shows just how much FT has changed over the years. They didn't need to do that, especially because they themselves were going to make that solution obsolete, but it was a cool gesture of goodwill to their customers that you likely wouldn't see them doing nowadays with how much they are inflating their prices just because they can. And yes, I know material costs have gone up but not nearly as much as these companies would have you believe. Case in point, when Hasbro upped figure costs due to rising oil prices but then after oil prices went down, they never dropped it, even after gutting parts counts on top of it. In fact, they continued to INCREASE prices.

That's what I mean. Grimlock came out two years before Prime, before they really started to figure their shit out. I'm pretty sure it is, the first run had worse shoulder joints but I've never found any confirmation on the knee or hip joints. I'm still considering buying a 2nd run version to replace my first run version honestly but I've never got a good opportunity to buy one.

This looks pretty good. The legs remind me of the Combiner Wars Sky Lynx, which I liked. The teeth and eyes are too eerie though, they take him from funny bird spaceship creature to nightmare vision. Look back at ER, CW, G1...all those Sky Lynxes have cute heads. This is just scary looking.

I still dislike the windows but I like how everything compacts without turning into a cluster fuck. All the moves on the transformation are simple, coherent steps. The van doors folding in and the windshield sliding up the back slims the entire torso silhouette down at into a 'V/' The end result makes the backpack rounded and compact while preventing the windshield from jutting out the sides in bot mode.

Oh and the additional hand articulation despite being completely spit and nearly invisible in the alternate modes is excellent.

MMC is absolutely making slavish sunbow, the only difference is that they're the only group to not fall into the modern combiner scale.

If price is all you care about then tftoys.com.au is the way to go (and they still has 3 of him up for preorder). Forewarning, they get their stock in via ocean, not air, wich allows them to have much lower prices for us here in aus. One aspect (the combiner) not being cartoon accurate doesn't invalidate the rest of the combiner. Each limb on MMC is cartoon accurate to an extreme.
Also, XTB having normal proportions due to cheating doesn't mean anything in regards to cartoon accuracy. Calling it a balloon when it's not a squat block for a torso means nothing.
XTB Defensor being G1 doesn't mean that MMC is less G1 by default. Only in different aspects sure, but both are slavish.

What G1 combiners follow that convention besides Bruticus, though? Even if you count Menasor and Superion (though they intentionally subvert those tropes by being on the opposite side you'd expect), that's still less than half the combiner teams.

Xtransbots is average. Honestly comparable to current Takara only they're not retarded about paint. I wouldn't preorder from them it's best to wait for reviews of their new products, but at the same time most of their releases have usually been fine. Ultra Magnus will probably turn out alright.

Kinda funny that I though the small Divebomb had meh wings and the big one had huge cool wings but now looking at the Predaking the wings look way better and bigger in the small one and look crap and small in the big one. The head also look terrible in the big one way too small for the rest of the body while the small one has an head that matches the size of the rest of his body.

I do prefer however the back guns of the big Predaking they look like Railguns that will fuck up whatever they hit while the small one's guns look like they fire small shocks that only annoy whoever gets it by them. The feets of the small one look way too simple when you compare to the rest of the body. Same with the loincloth-like piece that for some reason the big one lacks.

Exactly. So far, all anyone has to go on for combined mode is LOOKS. However, it also LOOKS like said combined mode could suffer with how much we've learned is going on with it along with the sheer size of the thing. That's a ton of weight. Seems lazy but more often than not, it's genuinely the better solution. If you try to pull the robot arms and legs from somewhere else, now you have to A. figure out where to get them from, and B. figure out what to do with the beast limbs if they're not going to be used for the most obvious and intuitive purpose. They're reinventing a character design, not reinventing the wheel.

If you like the bayverse transformers, I'd recommend Legendary Transformation LT-01. It's the 2007 mpm with an actual, detailed paint application, and it's $50-60 depending on where you look.

I'm surprised we haven't heard anything yet about repaints for Magnus and Prime. Prime's repaints all seem pretty obvious but I'm curious what Magnus will get besides clear and Diaclone colors. EX colors don't even seem as that likely since toon and toy colors were already pretty much the same, unless they really want to do the armor with a more cyan color instead of the deep darker blue. I guess MMC is doing it with their Sky Lynx reissue so it's possible.

The only reason they did this was because they wanted to pander to fans who mock Zeta style partsforming. And now that this is the route they took, the same crowd whines yet again because muh greebles, muh stylization etc. If anything naysayers are the ones coping to justify not buying something and telling themselves they aren't missing out, just see any thread on TFW, you can bet that 90% of the posters shitting on the product discussed didn't even buy it and never planned to, they just get a dopamine rush from being able to shittalk something.

Anyone own both NA Soundwave and MS Soundwave?
I already own the NA version but I feel like I bought the wrong Soundwave. I don't really give a damn about the tapes, but I do think the the extra articulation that MS has kinda makes it stomp over the NA toy.

Yeah, the combined mode may be too big for me (I'll have to seriously consider the miniature version), but the way they basically form a small army is awesome, and the individual figures look great, imo.

I own the toon and toy NA Soundwaves, and the metallic MS Soundwave. It’s not as clear-cut as you might think. Both do certain things better than the other. The MS, for instance, can’t look down. At all. That’s kind of important for a giant robot, in my opinion. The MS also feels flimsier and more hollow than the NA, which is absolutely true of the alt mode that’s essentially a box with no back - it’s like a shell wrapped around a bunch of robot parts. MS’s articulation is better, NA’s joints are smoother. MS handled the battery weapons better, NA’s hide better in the alt mode. This last one is subjective, but most of my legends collection is currently boxed up to save on space, with the exception of the NA toy Soundwave who lives permanently on my desk. Overall I prefer it both aesthetically and as a toy to mess around with. Not to say that the MS is bad, I certainly don’t regret buying it, but I prefer the engineering, look and feel of that toy version from NA overall.
