I would certainly expect something mass produced to be cheaper than something neckbeards make in their garage. I can get a Spirit Halloween pack for $80, which is a little bigger than 3/4 scale and has lights and sounds. For being not much bigger and not having a wand this thing costs 5 times the price. For 5 times the price I expect this pack to have all the bells a whistles, so to not even have a plastic faux alice pack is embarrassing.

Fan ones are anywhere from $500 (no lights or sounds) to $1200 (lights, sounds, vibration feedback)

I had a buddy who used to make them with lights and sounds and he sold them for like $800 a pop.

So let's say you don't own one. Buying one, and backing the pack would run you roughly $550 or so after taxes.
A fan made replica of the same quality (lights, sounds, vibrational feedback motors) would easily run you $900 at the CHEAPEST.

For kids or women I would say it's great. The wand is undersized but it's functional, so it's not just some throwaway piece of plastic they threw in. I agree it's good for the price but it has its issues. Maybe I'm happy with the price because I expected it to cost more, and I already have the Spengler wand. Right now I have the spirit Halloween backpack pack with the Mattel wand on it. Looks fine but I still want the HasLab because of its more accurate size and look. I have to repeat it for the umpteenth time, for $400 for the pack alone you don't even get a plastic imitation alice pack let alone a proper metal one. That is just absurd to me. And you know once people get them in hand they're gonna find all these other ways Hasbro cheaped out that can't be seen in photos. I'm mad because I expected better. Something to note which no one has mentioned is that the electronics of the wand won't integrate with the electronics of this pack at all. The hose connection between the two will be completely superficial. Even the Mattycollector wand had the sense to allow for a proper electronics connection between it and a hypothetical pack (something the fans took avantage of with custom made light/sound boards which plug right into the Matty wand).

It's exceeded the Skystriker and Rancor despite those campaigns being active longer, so it's doing quite well. A lot of Ghostheads are probably buying multiple packs. I'm planning on buying the max 5 myself, but would like to see some stretch goals first.

5 is such a low number though. It's the minimum I would want to buy. I'd probably go for 10 and sell 6. After tax 10 packs would cost me $4,265. If I sold those 6 for a modest $700 each I end up getting 4 proton packs for $65.

Maybe they just don't want to see some guy flipping 20 of them on ebay for $700 a piece, plus tax and shipping? In this case the scalpers would actually be paying to manufacture the Proton Packs, so you wouldn't be losing out, but the late tax would be very high, and you could feasibly have scalpers with a high number that they're flipping. I wouldn't be surprised if there's already guys on ebay selling pre-orders right now.

So that list of goals seems likely to be real. Supposedly impossible for the wand and pack to communicate in a standard way. I've seen people speculate that perhaps how much power the wand needs when being used could be how the pack knows what sort of lights and sounds to make. Even if that's not the case the pack and wand can both make noises independently so it's not a big deal to me.
