Anonymous
>>9441930 It's really hard to say, sales of the line have slump in store, likely more to do with how things went with the Revelation Show drying up hype and thus demand of that wave one and all the Deluxe sets. Obliviously they are branching out but much like other brands that suffered bad media tie ins (GIJoe Retaliation, Transformers DotM, the original Masters of the Universe film, Star Wars TLJ, etc) it can crush or slow down later waves in the line to obscurity. That said this line is supposedly not that tied to Revelations but they are not making the best case for it when most of the line is just that.

The line launched alongside the show, and the figures (Teela a notable exception) don't stray that far from conventional MOTU designs anyway. It's not that tied to Revelation; it's almost beat for beat an attempt at Marvel Legends-ifying MOTU with a broad line. They're throwing in new stuff about as fast as could be expected.

Strongarm/Strong-or feels like a genuine Mattel designed character despite being Filmation original He's not the main threat in the episode he shows up in and has a toyetic gimmick already present with his extending arm I genuinely have to wonder why they even bothered making him to begin with for the episode?
Anonymous
>>9442205 There was a rumor once that Strongarm was the original idea behind Fisto, but at some point developed into a hero
There's also this, which implies early confusion between Strongarm and Jitsu
https://youtu.be/drbFe24hpgw So there's circumstantial evidence that Strongarm may have been a Mattel idea, but (afaik) nothing concrete like a concept sketch or anything. To me (tge following is all fan theory) it almost looks like Mattel created "Chopper", and the character was designed with a metal mask and stretching arm, and that explains the Dragon Invasion storyboard. Then Mattel came back and said "ok, Chopper is an Asian now". But at this time, SheDemon of Phantos was already animated, they couldn't go back, so they just changed the name to Strongarm for recording the script and then used the Chopper animation model for Dragon Invasion without bothering to change the storyboard.

Anonymous
>>9444423 What are you afraid might happen? I hope he has his action feature still
Anonymous
>>9444434 Well, for starters, articulation, particularly in the lower body.
If they give him vintage style legs, the knee and ankle articulation will probably be awkward or virtually nonexistant. If they give him a Classics style lower body, it should work out fine, but being this is Origins, I doubt they will.
And the other thing is head sculpt. My two biggest complaints with vintage Mantenna are the mouth and the ears. If they veer too close to perfect vintage accuracy like they did with Fisto, he's not going to be nice to look at.
Anonymous
>>9444442 >My two biggest complaints with vintage Mantenna are the mouth and the ears. Thats what made mantenna cool was his freaky elf ears and anus mouth. I dont want him to look cute, i want him to look gross and weird which is cool
Anonymous
>>9444446 I never said I wanted him to look cute. Don't confuse me for a filmation fag.
Compare vintage to the 200x and Classics versions
On both of those, the painted the teeth so it looks more like a mouth and not a sphincter. And the ears on both have a sharper, more fin or batwing like quality. Plus the head is less rounded in the cheeks on those versions.
So I want to have the same elements, but the vintage toy lost those cool details in the execution.

Only way to get Lords of Power for $200 actual was to pick up at show which didn’t happen. BBTS order price was $270, PowerCons shipping was $70 plus the $200. But from the people with the quotes, shipping went up on PC’s end so quotes have been $85 for just the Horde set add on probably $40-50 for the Faker set. “But muh small Con with no money”...... My shipping for all 3 from Mattel was $6.95 and my Faker set and Grayskull set have PC logo on the top box. Val can wipe his ass with stupid sticker and trading card. We never got the endcap and didnt see a He-Man till like late December. Then again the only sex shop and landfill in town are right down the street on the same side road.
Ironically, the shitty small ass (not a supercenter, no grocery section) Wal Mart across from the beach that I wrote off as a hunting ground as it never gets shit in stock and has a miniscule action figure section got the endcap (and my $60). It was actually a cool night where I crushed a hard exam, went out for a run under the october moon on the beach, scored wave 1, and then went home and ate Count Chockula at my Kotatsu with wave 1. Fuck, I felt like a kid again, I felt happy.
But what really brings me happiness, as this Anon pointed out, is being here for the ride. I'm happy that you all have been receptive to my partswaps. I'm happy that you all havent gotten rude about my Schizoid Personality Disorder. They arrive and people grab them up quickly around here. It also helps that I belong to a private toy collecting group of about 30 people who scour the city for each other looking for these things, so I know that ALL of our Targets and Walmarts get stock, it just happens to be a timing issue whether or not you ever see them.

Put things in storage and tell myself I'll bring them out again someday but sell them in 3 years when I go digging? Any advice would be helpful here. Post your shelves friends

He has to compete with Buzz Off and Stratos for coolest flying guy, with faker and roboto for coolest robot guy, and with zodac and the meteorbs for weird fun spaceman. It's not an easy competition.

Anons, what's the next wave again?

>>9451696 I'm wondering if Sun Man and his crew will come on their own special "Sun Man" cards and not be distributed in the standard case assortment, but as there own thing the same way deluxes are shipped.
Like wave 8 will be Clawful, AE H-Man, Horde Trooper and minicomic Trap Jaw, and then Sun Man ships separate in his own designated "Sun Man" case (the release of these figures coincides with February, so they can market it for Black History Month to justify it and hype him as his own thing rather than a He-man supporting character)
And then the next wave would be 200x Skeletor, Randor, Mantenna and Whiplash, with Pighead and Digitino being shipped together as a separate case assortment under the Sun Man brand

Did Mattel outright buy Sun Man, or is this just a one-time licensed thing, and after Origins we'll never see them again?

>>9451993 One-time. Yla has kept the full rights while Mattel can make the figures. Don't know how much she's getting in royalties.
I've started considering origins as like a "best of" the 80's 5.5 muscle men at this point. Sun-Man & friends, WWE, He-Man. Now we just need Galaxy Warriors & Speclatron. Those DC primal age figures aren't half bad either.

Anonymous

>>9452156 No, It's a licensing issue sadly. The reason that WWE figures use classics parts is because a licensed line will have exclusive rights to any new parts made for it. That's why new wrestling figures can use things from older waves of origins, while the first couple waves of wrestlers had to use classics parts- because Mattel had already previously released those in an home-grown IP. Think of it kinda like how you can use the public domain Frankstein, but not Universal's Frankenstein.
I'd love it if Steamboat could confirm Mattel's doing a Dragon Blast Skeletor, but alas. It's the classics dragon.

I'm new here, I started collecting with Origins. Who is Scott?
Anonymous
>>9452428 Scott Neitlich was the brand manager for Matty Collector for Mattel in the late 00s to mid 10s. He was in charge of Classics and DCUC among other things. He did a handful of strange and questionable things like bsing motu lore and used his OC Mighty Spector as a filler character for their new OC subline for the 25 ann of the motu brand.
He has a YouTube channel where he does "director's commentaries" about the classics line figures and random opinions and things that he claims are facts about the toy industry. He will reply to almost anything you leave as a comment.
He's got a bit of an ego, but I don't think he means to be malicious and tries to maintain a face.
