I understand the lore, it makes sense. But it just makes for shittier toys and that's the more important part at the end of the day. Because in the end, the lore is fiction. But the toys are real physical objects kids and other fans want to mess with, and certain amount of effort should be put in making a transformer. It's a shame that the cybertronian designs usually are should half assed in the alt mode department

I never had a problem with Cybertronian alts but then again I'm a Gundamfag. When you semi-regularly get retarded shit like this for transforming robots, it kinda desensitizes you a bit and your standards for what is acceptable or not drops to 0.

Scorponok is boring, that's how. No weapons beyond his two static turrets, barely any play features in base mode, and the scorpion mode has a terrible tail and legs. He's also probably missing the most features from his original toy, except maybe compared to Fort Max. He's a solid figure in robot mode, but that's it, and a good titan needs to be more than that. Comparatively, Metroplex has plenty of play features, especially in his alt-modes, several weapons, and aside from his missing companions (a trait every modern titan has except Spreem), all he's really missing is the scramble city interactivity that barely did much in the first place. His bot mode isn't amazing, but it isn't terrible either. Titans aren't just big robots, they're playsets, and Metroplex makes a far better playset than Scorponok.

Expand on why Trypticon is so high then, I found him far more boring with two static turrets/missile things with a base mode that hardly works as it should and a shuttle mode that takes a run for Fort Max's lay robot down. I can't see him being #1 because he come with a very boring and simple deluxe TR figure and a spring loaded nose. and then there are the stickers as well.

What the fuck are you talking about? Not only is his robot mode great and a breath of fresh air from the standard humanoid configuration most Transformers have, he's got plenty of features. Spring-loaded nose gun reveal, lots of compartments for sticking figures in, titan master vore action, big cannon on the shuttle mode, comes with a handsome deluxe figure with an actual alt-mode and a weapon of its own (unlike Zarak), and the alt-modes aren't half-bad, especially as a platform to stick other figures on. And the only problem with the stickers is the tedious process of applying them, once on they look nice, stick on well, and none of them are placed in a way where they'll easily start peeling at the edges. Top tier may be debatable, but he's easily better than "upgraded Fort Max" Scorponok.

I'm weirdly reminded of Xenoblade X, which gave us some awesome mecha designs but bafflingly made the transformation on most of them for their vehicle modes really.. dumb.. the heavy ones basically just wear a bunch of kibble that turns into vehicle parts for a shitty H-tank, why couldn't that just be their limbs doing that?

Legacy Skids looks awful, and I'm not sure it'd even be worth the effort to try and improve him if the translucent plastic is just going to crack a month later.

the original has pearlescent plastic there but it's not nearly that translucent. not by a longshot
I just busted mine out to check, and it actually does look much bluer when you put light behind those parts, so maybe.. it's just lighting. also the black is a very metallic black, so i GUESS this could all just be lighting.

pearlescent means it looks like a pearl. it's hard to describe, similar to metallic but not the same thing.. the simulated appearance of many thin layers of shiny.. which actually might explain it being translucent when held up to light, like those one-way mirrors.

It's a Huckebein, basically the lawyer friendly version of Gundams for SRW. Here's his brother from a decade ago, Exbein Ashe. You only get to use Ashe for a brief period, a shame since it looks awesome compared to the upgrade.

Yeah, but their originals still borrowed from other designs. The R Series and Huckebein's took many design cues from Gundam's in the 90's. Meanwhile, the Gespensts, is based on a grunt from Double Zeta Gundam, the Dreissen (they literally used the lineart, the Gespenst has side fins thanks to the Dreissen's lineart having the backpack's fins look like they're on the head in that specific angle).

Probably right above Fort Max, really. I like Cyb Metroplex's bot mode design, but the vehicle mode leaves a lot to be desired, and the new version doesn't look to be fixing it at all. And, if the Ark is any indication, they may not even give it a base mode, and I'm not sure what kind of neat features they could really give it. I just like perfection, and usually the dings are for prominent things like faces and chest flames, too.. Siege's dogshit battle damage helped me quite a bit bc some scratch or stress mark just becomes a drop in the bucket. I sure wouldn't mind clean toys though!!

I personally can’t believe she got a repack in Kingdom, despite being one of the worst figures in the line coupled with the least popular color of bright pink. I can’t even give Hasbro the excuse of repacking unsold ER stock, since ER to Kingdom had the change in internal figure support that a new box wouldn’t replace like the Siege to Earthrise change.

I’d honestly believe there’s some horrible SJW Karen or tranny pedo high up in Hasbro who insisted they repack this Arcee mold for Kingdom for ‘inclusion’ or some shit like that. I suspect Arcee was originally intended for SS86 before being moved up to WFC. She doesn't really fit in WFC's style, her vehicle mode doesn't suit ER/Kingdom's Earth modes but isn't greebly enough to have been a delayed Siege figure and she barely has any compatibility with the weaponizer gimmicks, including her square pegged gun.

yeah this is basically my take, the siege mold is really boring and the ER was worse and locked behind exclusives. Also I love the more beefy proportions of the Bee design, especially for Ironhide. Hope all the figures get fun repaints later down the line

Soundwave I'm a little iffy on because his altmode kinda looks like nothing from the render, but I like it more than the Siege vehicle. Wheeljack looks so much better than the ER figure it's unreal, and while I already have an Arcee I'm pretty happy with I won't say no if she turns out as good as the others. Transformers Dark of the Moon Crankcase

The dreads were never a popular group of characters and right out of the gate Crankcase is rubbing me the wrong way.

Mostly the suspension being too high. Makes the vehicle profile look weird and well as exposes the underkibble more than it would be.
Also all of his panels don't hold together quite right. He feels like one of those toys that's ready to spring open at any moment.

The all black windows and double light bars are pretty cool though.

To be honest, I'm liking this guy a lot more than I remember.

He's got a fantastic alien robot face. And I'm too far into Japanese mecha to not love a shiny black carapace and giant pincers.
So much soft plastic here. The pincers, Crankcase's hair and his long uncircumcised fingers are all soft and bendy.

The chest soaks up all the paint the paint budget with its gold and silver accents so the arms and legs are left barren and grey.

The most annoying part by far are Crankcase's dreads.

Because Crankcase's hands are the way they are his weapon pegs in halfway up his forearm.

He's got some decent posability. The panels and gangliness of his limbs let everything that isn't his hair do a good job of getting out of the way.
For movement we're talking ball joint shoulders and hips. Swivels at the biceps, thighs, and neck. Bending elbows and double bending knees.
The trickiest part is futzing with his feet to keep Crankcase standing. Due to how they're constructed there's a lot of play.

As you can see Crankcase's MechTech™ weapon is a boxy gun that clearly extends out with a claw. It pairs well with his other hand perpetually throwing up the singe deuce.

as I understand it, vac-metallization requires a very expensive machine.. it's possible to do, but unless I carefully sanded and polished the 3d printed parts ahead of time, they would just end up with that bumpy texture under the chrome which would look kinda more like 'brushed' metal.

The Cliffjumper mold was being used for various Bees
Smokescreen has that Sparkless rust corpse thing
Neither Modulator or Allicon fits into Kingdom lineup
Runamuck just puts Runabout even more out of balance

That just leaves Arcee, who we agree is shit, and Hoist/Trailbreaker. And the former is more popular AND should have been off shelves longer, though being in the common wave 1 doesn’t help his case.

looking at this poor twisted creature trying its best to be a cat, all i can think of is I thought of a decent but probably flawed transformation sequence for a catformer where the arms would form shins and feet, along with a piece from the body to form thighs, giving it long digitigrade legs that at least don't recycle the cat's hind legs.. leaving said legs to form arms, which they could do much more easily. now you have a less boring transformation than just standing up, with the disadvantage of requiring a little more doohickeying to get the cat head somewhere fun like a chest. but at least the tail would be posed to be a ponytail or something.

Transformers Beast Machines Buzz Saw

Is this the first Beast Machines toy I've pulled out?
They're a certain wacky that I know I'm short on.

Buzz Saw turns into the terrifying kind of wasp. Not the build a nest with his mates and maybe bother your picnic type. The Lay eggs under your skin have them eat their way out type.
But he's a Maximal so he probably doesn't do that.

Surprising bit of movement in beast mode. Wings are hinged and ball jointed and swivel-able. So they'll go wherever. Bug legs have a bit of play. The head though, can look up and down and side to side.

Transformation is simple but engaging. A lot of rearranging parts instead of just standing a guy up.

Buzz Saw's head reminds me of something, I almost want to say Bucky O'Hare but that's way off base.

I've never master Buzz Saw's weird springy arm. It's lack of elbow perplexes me.
The other arm's just ball joints. I can work with ball joints. Head's on a ball joint too, with a lot of up and down range.

Legs obviously have all the range they did in beast mode.
Strange how Buzz Saw loses the ability to fly in robot mode.
Unless maybe you think he buzzes his legs to take off?

reminds me of the ronin warriors figures. they seemed really awesome, but the internal springs made it impossible to hold any pose.. they were meant to be posed like, grappling (and in fairness they have those weird heel-handles and everything) but the idea that you could somehow pull back to snap forward a kick or something was laughable. the joints all had like tooth and gear shaped cuffs which served only to secure them in place so you couldn't twist while they were set, but I think ostensibly it was meant to work like a rotating ratchet

The whole point of the spring is for 'stinging' action. You pull the arm (or abdomen, in beast mode) back while the stinger is extended, and it snaps back forward to stab enemies. He's got quite a bit of force in him, too - I was able to knock around other figures with relative ease by whacking them with his arm.

You aren't bulling it back enough. Pull it all the way, and it snaps back an equal distance forward. Unless the 20 something years of age has stiffened the spring, he should have a fair amount of give - and force - in that arm.

That's actually a lot more accurate than most realize - judging by the color and shape of the abdomen, Buzz Saw's alt mode is a mechanical version of a (female) Golden Digger Wasp, a from of Parasitic Wasp. These wasps dig a network of tunnels in the ground, paralyze and kidnap other insects (with a preference for grasshoppers), then d rag them into their nests; they then embed a single egg inside each of their victim's ventral sides, usually near where the abdomen connects to the chest, and then seals off the chamber, leaving the poor paralyzed host to its fate. The eggs burst open, the larvae burrow their way into the grasshoppers' bodies, and they eat them from the inside out while they're still alive and aware of what's happening to them. Fun stuff.

The Rex head being shaped like the JP one instead of Megatron's more traditional head is an even bigger giveaway that Rexy was the one the mold was designed for. Oh, and they canonically keep her in a padlock, according to the bio on the back of the box.
Also, did anyone else notice Mr. DNA on the inner packaging? They really went all-out with the references here, especially when you consider that JP93 is an amalgam of three different characters to boot (Malcom's shades, Grant's hat, Muldoon's shotgun).
