The skiing yeti will probably use beast man or grizzlor parts, maybe hordak arms for the gloves? (I wonder if they'll flock or fur him?)
Delora and the witch both have skirts, so that will be a new piece they can share. The witch's big sleeves can then be reused for either Marlena or Shadow Weaver. And tge witch's boots can be reused for Adora
The cyclops looks like a standard buck with new armor pieces, so maybe hes like Man-at-Arms with arm and leg armor pieces?
And we've talked about the frog's reuse before.
The rest all look like 100% new tooling

So, Mantenna, Tung Lashor, Snake Face, Leech and Saurod all have action features which require the head and torso to be all one solid piece, no neck articulation. Which side are you on for their Origins versions?>want functioning feature, willing to sacrifice articulation >want to be able to turn their heads, don't care if they have no feature
Anonymous
Quoted By:
>>9453835 I'll say do what they can to make it work with articulation, but work in the gimmick as well. Like an extending neck Extendar and Rattlor with a ball jointed neck at the end of the neck.
We have Masterverse for an articulation specific line, so let Origins be faithful to the vintage line where it can.

And "integral" is subjective. It was a piece of cardboard in the original set, a piece of decoration, not a character. I don't think it's got a wide mass appeal like Beast Man or something. But hey, I could be wrong.

I wonder if they'll close the book on this part of the story, or if they'll leave it open for more. Could we actually see a New Eternia series? Basically, excited for it. I think it'll also redeem itself in some people's eyes, as in Revelation as one story told in the 10 episodes. For those who actually watched the first part, anyways. >>9455976 I agree.
You even see in the minicomics that they were at their best pre-Filmation, then took a severe nose dive during the Filmation period in story and art (I find the original Horde comics particularly bad, especially the art), but then got good again post-Filmation (not as good as pre-Filmation, but the Towers, Snakemen and little things like ditching the idea that Sorceress can't leave Grayskull in human form all brought the quality up)

What I can say is that even if 2002 He-Man was tailor made to children of that time, it still would have faced an uphill battle.
From the end of the 90s to mid 2000s we got the Star Wars trilogy, Matrix trilogy, Narnia just barely squeezed out a trilogy, X-Men trilogy, Spider-Man trilogy, the start of the Harry Potter movies, start of the Pirates of the Caribean movies, Pokemon, anime started to get really big in America in general, Dragonball Z was airing twice a day 6 days a week in particular, original X-box, PS2, gamecube, a gameboy that could play SNES quality games, boy bands, Latin invasion, Britney Spears type solo acts...
There was a lot of shit for children, tweens, and young teens to get into at that time.

>>9456273 >By the looks of how much wave peg warmers I see in every Target and Walmart, I doubt we'll make it past wave 3. Thanks Kevin Smith. I don't think the reception to Revelation has much to do with it. Teela aside it's not like the character designs are anything extreme or unsavory. The toys themselves and MOTU as a brand in general are probably more to blame, assuming the line is underperforming (which I wouldn't). Origins is more than a little flawed, but Masterverse has left a lot to be desired even compared to Hasbro's stuff and doesn't have the personality Origins does to offset what it lacks.
I think barbarian Skeletor looks cool for example -- and swappable heads do sweeten the deal considerably -- but I still have mixed feelings because the main body they're using is nevertheless weird with the torso/shoulders and hard to un-see and they're not remarkable in any other respect.

His wrist rocket does come off yes, but as you can see you're left with a giant peg hole where it should be.
Hose detaches from the mouth of the helmet, but not at the control panel on his chest. You can try to place it under a shoulder pad if you decide to do a head swap.
Overall, he might be my favorite Origins figure yet. He just feels somehow refreshing, I know he's based on the cardboard piece, but this figure just feels like something totally new, like we are finally getting a brand new character with little to no lore attached and it's left to us to determine who he is. To me he's a space hunter trying to bring in Hordak and his crew, getting in other adventures along the way.
The design is great, the shoulder pads luckily move perfectly with the arms to not hinder articulation, and the colors pop. I'm really hoping for a basic carded release, this is a figure that should be obtainable to anyone who wants one. He's fuckin rad.

>>9458060 That's the dream. I've been wanting to sculpt out some rough concepts, that was mine and my sisters favorite toy as kids. We constantly talk about hoping for a revival or doing one some day. I still have a bunch of them laying about.
>>9458066 I'd love to see the Frog, Evil Zodac, spooky skeletons etc. I doubt we will see all of them made, but I at least need the Frog. I'm somewhat fearful he'd be a Mattel exclusive, but I love the design of that guy, and I believe he's popped up more times than any other of the new concept characters. So here's to hoping we see him soon.
In the meantime, if you have a Spaceman, Mosquitor looks fucking excellent as his arch nemesis. I need to get pictures or them together soon.
Anonymous
>>9458077 >I doubt we will see all of them made, The only one I have any particular worry about not getting made is the rhinoceros guy. Not only is he all new parts, he's also an oversized character. And I dunno about you, but given the tooling budget for something like that, if I were a decision maker, I'd probably put that money towards known vehicle or beast (like blasterhawk or monstroid) before an untested creature.
But most of the rest use reused parts, or if they don't, have parts which would be easy enough to find reuses for (like the skeleton warriors. Generic skeletons with generic armor and weapons should be easy to find SOMETHING to reuse them for).
Anonymous

>>9458119 No, I want that too.
I'm actually the Anon that posted earlier about how it's disappointing the cgi show didn't have new characters, and those newbies were exactly who I had in mind. If frog or yeti or cyclops got to be in the new cartoon in addition to Origins, that'd be fantastic
Anonymous
>>9458100 I have the same fear for the Skeletons. As cool as they are, it's all new tooling for something that isn't guaranteed to sell. Skelecons would likely be a safer bet before all new skeleton soldiers, and Skelecons can reuse the basic body. That said, I'd buy at least three generic green skeleton dudes, they're sick.
Some also seem a bit redundant, like the dinosaur rider and the generic red demon with the mace. They'd be easy enough to do, but again with required new tooling and being fairly bland designs, I'm not sure we would see them. Frog and evil Zodac are way more inventive and fun.
>>9458119 Far from it, I think a lot of us want new characters. MCX is likely my favorite scale and the one I find most fun, but the slow trickle keeps me from preferring it to Origins. But I'd love to see MCX or Origins introduce new characters. I just need MCX to give me a damn Webstor first.
Final picture and then I'm done spamming Spaceman. I just think he looks great with Mosquitor.
Anonymous
>>9458159 The dinosaur rider will do ok IF he comes with the dinosaur. If not, yeah, he's generic enough I don't think he'll excite anyone.
The red demon might do well with hard-core minicomic fans, but how many of those are there? And how will he do with people that never read the minicomics?
Anonymous
>>9458243 I can't see mattel doing new tooling for something as large as a dinosaur mount for a no name character. Were it the 80s sure, but not now. If(and that's a big if) they do a dinosaur it'll be Bionotops or Tyrantasaurus, something with some lore. I feel like only the smallest handful of these guys will get toys, it any at all. As it stands I think the Rocket Frog has the best shot at production. Everyone else is a maybe or a longshot maybe. I'd love to own most of them, but I don't see it realistically happening.
That said I really want the Masks of Power demons as a two pack or Lodar.

MCX is my favorite scale because they've proved they can be as articulated as Origins (the actual MotU ones aren't, but they've done ankle articulation on the Ninja Turtles and and Halo Marines). So aside from needing space for Deluxe action features, the individual figures are just as good to me.
More crucially, while something like Origins Castle Grayskull is fun, it's only four rooms and some parapets, which is nothing compared to the CG interiors we've seen in the fiction. With MCX, you can build up playsets as much as you want.

It's my belief that frog, gladiator, witch, and delora will definitely get toys because of easy parts reuse
Dylamug and Octavia will also definitely get toys because they have nostalgia to back thrm up, even if these aren't the Filmation versions...plus Dylamug's name was in that list of trademarks from earlier this year along with names like Mantenna and Snout Spout, so he's got a lot of clout

>>9458770 >>9458787 There is the evil She-Ra from Classics.
I think the reason why all the evil ladies are still mostly human is because those were meant for the girl fans who still want someone pretty. Or a Mattel strategy to get rid of less attractive, less marketable characters. Triklop returns a very epic and dark scene Make-out (or love scene between Skeletor and Evil-Lyn) but that does not represent anything genuine. Evil-Lyn's will be nihilistic ... as she is a slave to Skeletor's will trapped in grayskull to become more powerfull Evil-Lyn empowers herself, discovers that she doesn't need Skeletor. Skeletor is dependent on her. Teela will overcome her duel and her performance as a sorceress is remarkable accompanied by the rest of the heroes. -There will be a very very implicit signal that Evil-Lyn has some romantic feelings towards Teela (or in a spiritual way). This is part of the climax that gives a certain mystique to the two Sorceresses, they will work as a team to restore order in Eternia. -Second season is very probable. And mattel has concluded this Filmation-200x dinamic with Revelations. -upcoming adaptations will introduce new dynamics and characters

Theoretically-- not in implementation of specific figures-- but in being double jointed, pinless, better articulated, etc. Masterverse should be better than classics if it goes on long enough. Correct?
Anonymous
>>9461014 If all you care about is articulation then they already are. Classics probably has the advantage with paint; Masterverse is lackluster there so far. But my issue with Masterverse is just with the main body proportions looking weird in the chest/shoulders. I actually like the head sculpt on Skeletor but the articulation isn't anything special enough for me to overlook that weirdness. Maybe if I had it in hand and posed it around it wouldn't bother me as much, but I can't pull the trigger on it. If they introduce better bucks they'd easily outclass Classics, but I'm not a massive Classics fan to begin with.

Sorry for stinking up the tread, but I do have a question that extends to all hobbies, but in this case relates to MOTU. I went out today to the single Big Lots in my county and left guardless, even though an anon in the thread found a few of the Eternia Guards at Big Lots, which i consider a lesser visited store vs Wal-Mart and Target. I then got another IP ban about a half hour ago because I used mobile data and it mixed me up with someone on /r9k/ shilling a Minecraft server. I live in a medium sized area, and i know 4chan isnt really an exclusive club, but it kinda just confirms there are others in my area. So here is my question: do you guys ever feel like you're competeing against other /toy/ users when a nugget of info is dropped? I can distinctly remeber a few instances in the past of seeing someone drop an "X just dropped/found X in the wild", hopping on my bike to get to the shopping plaza, and seeing other goblins also cruising the aisle, looking for the item. And i dont mean a parent looking for a gift and stumbling upon it, I mean Goblins like me, where you can tell they browse 4chan.

So Skelegod and Evil-Lyn's warriors consist of Beast Man, Clawful, Webstor, Spikor, Goat Man, Pig Boy and a surprise cameo by Blade. Skelly doesn't check in on Snake Mountain until the very end, finding the tech cult there. I guess Cyber-Whiplash died? The disappearances of Mer-Man, Stinkor and the Skelcons are never explained. Stratos and Buzz-Off's races and Ram Man get added to the Heroic Warriors. Only Evil-Lyn's weakest form wears pants, while her most powerful is barefoot with a slit skirt and bikini top. Super-Lyn turns Beast Man into a Battle Cat kinda thing and raises up an army of Shadow Beasts led by Scare Glow... which also brings Orko the White.
Anonymous
Lots of spoilers if you haven't seen part 2 but intend to below.
>>9463513 Whiplash isn't necessarily dead, just wasn't around. Same for Blast Attak. Skelcons, based on the first episode, could well be random citizens transformed into them. Mer-Man sent some Aquaticans, assuming he's still in charge down there, but perhaps stayed back to protect his kingdom, as undersea rulers tend to do.
Poor Beast Man, a blithering simp turned into a beast then discarded. If there is more to the series he will maybe find himself a farmer wherever Evil-Lyn is. Or he's dead, forgotten after being chucked off into the mote of CG.
Can't forget Motherboard being a Horde entity, and technofying Skeletor into maybe his NA look.
Anonymous
>>9463524 >Can't forget Motherboard being a Horde entity, and technofying Skeletor into maybe his NA look. That would be cool.
Motherboard being a Horde entity left in Snake Mountain would dovetail nicely with "The Secret of the Sword" if we could trust this show to be a Filmation sequel.
We also see an abbreviated version of Evil-Lyn's backstory from the prequel comic: she was 25 when she met Skeletor. He's wearing his Horde clothes but they didn't spring for animation models for any Hordesmen.

people had every right to be scared Teela would become the new He-Man
Anonymous
>>9463601 Roboto, I get, he became 'human' and he had a good end basically saving everyone. Likewise Fisto and Clamp saved Adam and Teela, but their deaths were unfair and abrupt. I think they should have had comebacks in that last fight, and could have stuck around, like Orko (who is also absurdly strong as Oracle now. the good guys now have He-Man, Oracle, and a Sorceress that can freely roam and fight, who knows how absurdly powerful the Horde would have to be to fight them).
>>9463586 Sadly, I was also hoping to see him. But this way, if the series does continue, maybe we could get Saurod with the Snake Men. I'm also sad we didn't get to see Ninjor and others, but there were still lots of fun cameos.
>>9463575 He was ok, basically Hulk. Very strong, very fast, very punchy. I think in their fight that Skelegod looked more impressive, pulling out all sorts of spells. The fight itself was quite cool.
Anonymous
>>9463621 How so? There was no indication that such a thing would happen, and anything said to support that was hearsay. Instead, we got 2 other wielders of the Power and neither of them was Teela or Andra (despite her VA playfully saying they got her to say the line, when it was clearly meant to be for fun rather than a part of the audition).
Even the thing about being in a relationship with Andra had more bearing from that one line in episode 2, yet based on the final episode (and earlier teases), she clearly meant it just as a friend and Adam is her love interest.

>>9463636 I mean part 2 was shit. People had good reason to have a very low expectation. Read between the lines you hyper-autist.
Ten episodes and the most they could come up with was trite shit for stakes.

Your first line is opinion, nothing to talk about.
I'm not sure what kinds of stakes you're expecting for a MOTU show. Conquer the world, conquer Eternia, conquer Grayskull, kill He-Man, conquer the universe, and it goes on. Feel free to give an example of stake you'd have liked.
A lot of people felt that Randor's slight of Adam from part 1 was unjust, or that his anger was unfair, and so they addressed it in part 2. Call it daddy shit if you want but they're addressing plot threads left from part 1.
>Of course Evil-Lyn isn't going to succeed. So why should I care? Are you meaning to tell me that you don't expect the hero to win in the end? I honestly don't know what you were expecting here. You ever hear 'it's not about the destination, it's about the journey"? If you don't think the hero winning is an expectation in 95% of all media to ever exist, and of all the media that subverts that expectation you actually expected it to be MOTU, I don't know what to tell you.

It's a nonsense goal.
CGI He-Man did it wonderfully. A family feud where Keldor is fueled by spite, Adam is scared of what his dad might think of him, and all of this clashing with what his friends believe in? It's great stuff.
Revelation has none of that. It's just "I'm a bad dad because I never told you I'm proud of you" and Evil-Lyn using sex, instead of her wits, to disarm Skeletor, because another man told her to. It's a lot of layers of bad.
Lastly yes, it is my opinion. I believe I am in the majority when I say Mark's joker inflections in his voice acting here were pretty bad.

I think they were supposed to come back in the final battle, though, like/with orko. There was too much emphasis put on them being sent to Hell, Heaven being nuked from existence, and all the dead in Hell being brought back. And the utter lack of mentioning them again after the seeming decent amount of sorrow/care when they died lends to that.
But I'm also content with them just busting heads down there for eternity like witty Doomguys, or Hawk and Dove in the live action TTitans show.

But all said and done, I basically can't think of a single redeeming quality to part 2. And I even defended part 1 because I found things that were enjoyable in those episodes. Part 2 felt like the were distracting you with hyperactive anime fights, cameos and "muh universe shattering stakes" so you didn't notice how tedious the whole thing was.

Filmation Hordak is a cyborg, since he's a Transformer but also eats pie.
Dragstor and Extendar's origins have them as humans cyborged by Hordak.
Mosquitor must be a cyborg mosquito-man.
But not everyone has to fit the theme.
Anonymous
>>9464295 Possible but they do not necessarily have to because as we know Hordak's gimmick was always that he relied on science and could transform parts of his body technologically, but the other members did not necessarily do this. The MB may just be a way the Horde is communicating with some members on Eternia but doesn't have to be the full focus of the Horde.

>>9464374 The comment was already discussed. If this place is positive for the most part, most places are probably overall positive. No need to try to spread ill feelings. If you didn't like it that's fine, let those who did like it like it.
>>9464295 I'm going to guess Motherboard itself isn't that special, but a kind of recruiter for the Horde, reprogramming people's minds so that they become servants. I would doubt that all of the Horde are robotic, but certainly possible that their minions are. The members of the cult did retain their memories, but Tri-Klops also said Motherboard made them do what they did, so there's definitely some measure of mind control going on.

>>9464402 If /motu/ is overall positive, the same is likely true for the majority. Punches weren't pulled for part 1 and it seemed like the people who enjoyed it were much fewer than they are now. Or maybe those people haven't bothered watching and that's why the opinions seem skewed, who knows.
>>9464405 Interesting, but one thing worth noting is the kinds of augmentations we've seen. Trapjaw from what we can tell was no different, Tri-Klops had some new parts on his shoulders, perhaps augmenting his strength, and Whiplash had new parts oh his extremities, like the mace on his tail and some armor. Meanwhile the generic grunts all had some crazy body horror going on, their arms turning into blades, that one guy's funky eye, and whatever else. Maybe if the 'host' is already excessively competent, the change is minimal, just augments, so as to not tamper with their existing abilities, while the grunts who are otherwise useless get much more significant upgrades.
All that to say that if there is a S2 and we see Leech and all the rest, I wouldn't want them to be weird mechanical monsters. Augmented strength, or robotic like Mosquitor is, cool. We did see them in the comic and they were pretty normal to the ones we know, so I wouldn't expect crazy changes to them.
