Got the red version of MP Bumblebee in today. He's really neat. The beetle mode is outstanding, love the attention to detail like him only having one mirror and all the little indicators and shit. Looks lovely in red too.

Literally my only gripe with the car mode is I wish the license plate wasn't blank. I know most people would use the tire case but I like the Beetle design enough that I'm leaving it off. Doesn't add that much to robot mode anyway. Also the rear bumper likes to come off, which is annoying.

Robot mode is great too, has so much character. Transformation is wonderful, but mine had some slightly stiff joints on the first time around, I assume thanks to the paint. Not a big deal but slightly scary disconnecting some of those panel tabs for the first time. But yeah, I love this little fella.

Got my broken Hot Rod. It's worse in some ways, better in others:

-Came with everything
-Paint on the chest, face, and cockpit is just fucked
-Broken parts are the Pelvis piece (not that noticeable, can glue back in place and the arm pipes had one clip on each one broken.
-Shipped the worst way possible, most of the paint issues were probably due to how he shipped it (literally shipped the toys box with some plastic wrapping, zero padding for the box OR the parts inside it)

Prime and Classic/Henkei are the cheapest.

Combiner Wars was import only AND only available in a box set so it costs $200+ and isn't even a good figure (basically First Aid with a new head and Rook's fork gun).

Siege is now $100+ figure and isn't that good. Earthrise is $100 loose and $200 boxed with green Arcee and will probably keep getting more and more expensive now that it's been confirmed that the upcoming Studio Series isn't going to be Earthrise or even a new mold for Ambulance Ratchet but a super garbage Bayformer version taken from the Bumblebee film.

Transformers Revenge of the Fallen Dirge

The first use of this mold, before Jetblade stole it and wore it worse.
How many other versions were there? I feel like Botcon did a few.

Other than the fact he looks nothing like Dirge, Dirge is looking pretty Dirge-y in his classic blue and gold.
The little bits of silver and black help make the front and back ends much more striking.

As a toy the harrier jet doesn't feel super good to hold. Unless you pinch it by the tail, that's comfortable.

Transformation is still fun. I enjoy it whenever they throw in a quarter turn.
As you can see my Dirge has a bit of battle damage. What with the missing chest piece.

Looking at him now I'm not really diffing the yellow. It clashes a bit too much. And it's not super well applied either.
Not sure what I can cover here that I didn't with Jetblade. The articulation is weird. He gains a waist swivel if you unpeg his back. The folding kibble on his arm makes a more convincing shield than most that try.

I don't think I mentioned the spinning nipples before. Yeah, if you rotate his arms at the shoulders his nipples spin with glee. The mechanism has a pleasing amount of resistance to it.

It's a really cool touch, yeah. Overall the whole thing is just satisfyingly simple yet clever. No billions of micro-panels or spindly armatures, just easy yet effective folds and twists for great results in both modes. As much as I like the ER mold, I actually think the MP's transformation is better and more straightforward- rather than reversing the entire transformation and adding partsforming so that the window ends up facing upwards, they just had the rear of the car covering a very minor and non-egregious fake rear window. Honestly even speaking as someone that hates fauxparts in general, they should have just copied the MP scheme.

The Centurion set isn't even good, Centurion is an okay figure but most of the effects parts are just grey plastic, Optimus' axe is extremely awkward and his gun hilariously oversized, and Megatron's mace is only sized for the earthrise Megatron, the worst WFC Megatron.

This fucking thing added another point against him in my opinion. When I tried to remove it, it often likes to pop out from turret. It's just a bad design.
If they can't remake and upgrade leader from combiner wars, maybe it's time to drop tank for plane/jet, helicopter, canon like Gustav etc.

I think the main problems with the Legacy release is that the front of the legs gives the impression that Skids has gigantic boots, while the MP has that section connect directly the thighs, then there's the chest.

The main issue with the chest is that as it gets smaller closer to the front of the bumper, but the Legacy design doesn't do this as well as previous Skids so it makes the chest look huge.

I'll try to see if I can throw an example of what I mean in a bit.

Don't know, I have Hoist and while it wouldn't consider it fragile for posing in either mode, the actual transformation is a pain if you want to avoid paint chipping.

I'd be more worried about Star Saber's sword. I was hoping for either flexible plastic or the hard stuff, but it's clear plastic so now I'll have to be careful so the paint doesn't chip or it break by accident.

Thanks for the information, i mostly think Star Saber feels like straight out of Diaclone because of how many different parts the guy has (small pilot, slightly bigger jet that combines into a bigger jet and all of that shit makes Star Saber's robot mode), reminds me of one of the diaclone combiners that were not turned into transformers.

Transformers Animated Lockdown

This altmode is just too damn stylish.
From the sweeping curves to its harsh angles Lockdown's vehicle mode oozes flavour.

The angry eyebrow headlights flow back into the surprisingly little visible green and forward to the low studded bumper.
Love the giant over sized rear tires give him so much grab that he rolls at the slightest touch. And just in front of those are his six exhaust pipes, meaning it isn't implausible to suggest that each of Lockdown's cylinders are individually piped. Just for aesthetic.

Lockdown gives so much to aesthetic that he's even forsaken doors. There's no way for a human to get behind that sick pink windshield.

And I'll just say it up front, Lockdown is one leggy bastard. We all know he's a tall deluxe.
Just comparing to things on my desk I can tell he almost, almost, sees eye to eye with Leader class Slag.

Much more colour in robot mode, more green for one. Also a few splashes of colour to show off his asymmetricalness.
The yellow hook hand, a couple flecks of burgundy, mismatched biceps.

Keen eyed viewers will note I haven't modded my toy, so he still has the gimpy wrist.
Now it's crashing down on me that some people here are new/young enough to not know about Lockdown's goofy hands at all.

Lockdown's thesis of form over function carries into robot mode.
By that I mean his articulation is a bit gimped.

His head swivels a bit atop his plynth of a neck.
Transformation gives Lockdown a waist swivel.
Hips are on ball joints and thighs swivels.
...Then we get to his knees. Or where knees should be. Lockdown's "knees" are transformation joints that both look completely unnatural when bent and only bend to about 45 degrees.

Shoulders are on a hinge and swivel. Not a great deal of outward movement unless you're will to take the panel they're attached to with them.
Elbows are the same as Prime's were, a hinge with a ball joint, but on Lockdown they blend in much more convincingly.

The only reason they'd do these characters at Voyager size would be to do them as new molds and a better vehicle mode integrating into the robot mode using the higher budget. Probably wouldn't be anything like the Deluxes.

I had that one preordered because I thought it was going to be the netflix megatron but with some additional weathering, who I don't have yet, but I was luckily able to cancel it. It just looks so lazy. The colors look wrong, there's missing details even on the weathering such as the thighs.
I actually ended up saving some cash because Walmart has spoiler pack Megatron for 35 bucks as a black friday deal.

Yes, he needs several fixes just so he doesn't eventually break during transformation, the free range legs, the gap on the side, the plastic warps if you pull his fists in and out. He managed to look decent but that's all he has going him. You can fix some of these problems, but I wouldn't pay more than 6 dollars for it.

The almost the entire car shell that becomes his backpack is clear plastic, you can't even fold the windshield into the rest of the backpack since it flexes way too much for comfort. For car mode, it has two tabs on the front that are way too big and must be either cut or shaven to the point they don't cause problems and the there's two connecting bits to the side (next to the doors) that you'll have to shave until it stops flexing so hard so the tabs on the car can slot into it without issues. Then you'll have to fix the legs by adding something to extend a tab that's too short, otherwise the legs will be completely loose.

That's on top of the figure tolerances being all over the place, so depending on your copy, you'll also have to fix that since some parts will either be stupidly tight or loose as hell.

Clear plastic flexing is the last thing you want it doing. The version hasbro uses is not meant for that and it will break. If you don't shave off those sections, that whole area will eventually break during transformation. The first time I was going back from car to robot mode, it was almost impossible to pull out the tabs on the front and it was a miracle it didn't break, the flexing on several parts didn't help either. The tab extension can be done by flying a small piece on.

Gluing a piece of what, what's- I've only done filing, as well as using super glue (cannot find Pledge in the shithole called Toronto) for making joints tighter (left to dry before reattaching), is this worthwhile work like for Grapple, or am I doing $10 worth of manual labour for my $10 discount

I bet that this will quite possibly the worst TF movie to date. I just hope designs are at least a little cool so they toys can be good. The Maximals descriptions have soured me. I'm fine with that. We're at what? 5 (main) Autobots, 4(?) Maximals, and 3 terrorcons?
Depending on how many lines you like your robot characters getting we may be at capacity already.
Personally not too upset about Garry Chalk being passed over. I like his work but I don't think he has the grit in his range for how loud and angry the movies are.
